Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

This is the most heartbreaking and confusing situation

Agree. I copied this from Twitter

He didn’t say that, he said IF she’s in the river he WILL find her, his intention is to support the family, he has previously said he is puzzled as to why the area has not been designated a crime scene as this is a missing person investigation.

He says “I do believe she is in the water from the evidence we have got at the moment” on that video in the link.

SlaveToTheVibe · 06/02/2023 23:49

Oh come in. Asking for £100k is cheeky fuckery and a particularly stupid move given the contentious issues surround this case and all the unfair accusations that are being bandied about.

most people would be thinking about £5k or something. It’s presumptuous and greedy.

ofwarren · 06/02/2023 23:16

It's not
It's weird that her friend called him her husband in the gofundme.

Having been in this situation, an awful lot of people named in the media as ‘friends’ weren’t really. So the question is whether she’s called herself a friend or whether she’s more of an acquaintance and the media are referring to her as a friend. It’s quite difficult to know.

60smusic · 07/02/2023 00:05

Glad she disabled that gofundme, the account wasn't hacked as there was replies from actual friends after she put it up with a link.

I would say after the backlash online for the 100k she reduced it to 50k and while still a ridiculous amount and people still not impressed, she reduced it further to 5k.

If they needed money to pay searchers, people would gladly give, but everyone is giving their time and services for free, maybe if there's no outcome this week and they need to hire others then, yes, raise money then, but to blatantly ask for a ridiculous amount of money is crass.

She's definitely a friend of both Paul and Nicola on Facebook but I don't know if they are close.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/02/2023 00:15

I think that’s sort of what I mean. Some of the stuff being reported as by friends was from FB or twitter friends rather than their closest friends. That doesn’t mean she isn’t a close friend but unless she or the family have explicitly stated it I’d be wary of assuming ‘friend’ meant close friend.

I can sort of understand doing it. It’s a way of doing MH something when there isn’t much you can do. If It may have just been a slightly misplaced gesture.

User45378754 · 07/02/2023 00:36

You wonder if there has been a loss of control and derailment of any media / communications approach that is essential for a coherent investigation.

Family / friends seem to be doing their own thing. Private recovery firm guy getting stuck in. Another retired murder investigation expert criticising the approach.

Seems like a lot of panic and knee jerk “noise” - lots of confusing timelines etc.

Diverging · 07/02/2023 00:40

It does seem a complete mess and as pp said confusing and heartbreaking.

Absolutely bizarre comments on social media too. Wild theories and accusations, the number of 'psychic mediums' convinced they know where she is and see miffed the police aren't investigating them!

To ask people for 100 grand is outrageous. The backlash and suspicion was immediate, and then to reduce it to 50 and then 5 beggars belief. It looks like seeing if they can get any money at all.

I have no idea what she was thinking there, but it’s caused a huge amount of suspicion in the public mind. Everyone remembers Shannon Mathews.

what an utter mess this is.

Roselilly36 · 07/02/2023 05:16

I agree, too many “friends” getting involved, giving interviews etc. This is a matter for the family & the police. Praying Nicola is found.

upstream?
how likely is a body to go against the tide?

TokyoSushi · 07/02/2023 07:15

Let's hope for some news today.

Agree it's rapidly becoming a 'too many cooks' situation, although I understand the urge to want to do 'something.'

Just awful.

User45378754 · 07/02/2023 07:17

I think this is good as we know she was spotted at 9:10 in the upper field which is further upstream than the bench and could have gone in at any point along there. She may have gone to the edge for a reason and left the phone down on the ground there and then maybe someone picked up the phone and left it on the bench and this person doesn’t want to come forward as might have been somewhere that they shouldn’t have been?

However PF by last night was back to his original theory that she is not in the water.

UserEleventyBillionandOne · 07/02/2023 07:19

Emma has put on Facebook that the family weren’t aware of the GoFundMe, that she did it after friends asked how they could donate and someone else set it up for her and they wrote husband and set it to 100k! Personally I know a few sticky beaks like this who put themselves at the forefront in times of crises for their family and friends, acting all supportive but I can’t help think they love the attention and drama of it all. This woman is never far away from the camera is she? Might be time to take a step back.

I agree. No wonder it’s been blown up in the media. The Gofundme page was not a clever move either. Also all the contradictory information from police and the press has just added to the mystery and hype.

Hoping that missing 11 year old Kaitlyn Eason’s case is dealt with more efficiently and she is found safe too - this little girl deserves more media coverage.

TokyoSushi · 07/02/2023 07:24

SGI man on BBC Breakfast just now basically saying he doesn't think she's in the river.

This is a genuine situation isn't it? I'm not sure what to believe anymore...

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 07/02/2023 07:24

Fortunately missing wee girl K was found late last night- safe and well. Very little in the news x

It is odd how there's been nothing in the news about a missing 11yo but SM is reporting she's been found safe and well.

The Nicola case is very sad and mystifying but another pretty, white MC woman getting all the coverage, while others are forgotten.

I'm not convinced about him either TBH. Loving the attention a bit too much IMO.

SideshowAuntSallly · 07/02/2023 07:31

I think her so called friends need to shut up. Also why the assumption that she's been abducted? What are they not telling us about their so called friend. It is very rare to be abducted by a stranger so are they saying she knew some unsavoury people. If she had been, there would have been signs of a struggle.

The most likely scenario, she fell in the river possibly hitting her head which is why no one heard her scream. I know personally of a case where someone went missing after a night out, they had fallen into a lake, they weren't found for a week and that wasn't a flowing river.
