Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

Does anyone know what type of caravan park it is? I think there are pods which I presume people hire out for a few days at a time but the caravans.. are they owned by people who come regularly?

Peverellshire · 06/02/2023 17:07

@Allgoodthings1 good summary.

Earliest reports said the phone was originally found on the ground between bench & river.

this expert from Humber also thinks she did not fall in the river …Humber rescue founder

Really interesting information about the helicopter and thermal imaging - I wonder if this was used.

I think they have been using thermal imagine as the helicopter was buzzing around near my house on (if I remember correctly) the first Sunday night. I guess thermal imaging would work better at night whereas it would be harder for them to be visually searching.

@ofwarren i can’t find the source of the source but I have read it on a crime stats site I think as well, it’s public information. Allotment lane is just secluded enough for such activity I suppose

they have searched the empty caravans,
they should surely search all caravans

"They urged drivers or cyclists on Garstang Road to contact them.

In a update, Lancashire Police said: "We can say with confidence that by reviewing CCTV, Nicola has not left the field during the key times via Rowanwater, either through the site itself or via the piece of land at the side.

"Also, we can say that she did not return from the fields along Allotment Lane or via the path at the rear of the Grapes pub on to Garstang Road.

"Our inquiries now focus on the river path which leads from the fields back to Garstang Road - for that we need drivers and cyclists who travelled that way on the morning of 27 January to make contact."

important quote from police
“It is not possible to provide every piece of information to the public because to do so would detract from the investigation, but I’d like to thank everyone who has assisted us so far and for the support provided to Nicola’s family at this extremely difficult time.

@Peverellshire yeah also remember this.. I think because everything was found once first, moved the stuff and dog then the person seems to have gone to an appointment and potentially someone else later came across it too, meanwhile the school was being phoned, seems to have confused a lot of the facts of the timeline right at the start. I don’t think anyone is entirely clear on the facts and why were these things said at first if suddenly they’ve now changed? 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s not as if it’s one thing, it’s pretty much every detail of what was found, where and when

So does that mean the only way she could have left (other than by the river) is back along the same path she’d came?

Just shows you how crucial dashcams are.. I have a relatively new car but have never had a dashcam. You’d think they should be a feature on all new cars

Sounds like the police gradually moving away from the river theory. As someone else said, although third party involvement is highly unlikely, so is someone falling into a river and not being found after intensive searching with the best equipment in the world.

Thank you
That's crazy for such a small place
I suppose lots will be domestic violence but its still unerving how much is going on in such a small group of people.

Diverging · 06/02/2023 17:35

This side scan sonar guy is giving mixed messages. One minute she’s not likely to be in the river, then he’s saying she is. Then he’ll find her in under an hour, then it’s a few days.

The Humber guy is saying they need to search the banks. Because there are a lot of trees and under growth along them. So he’s not quite saying she’s not there at all, he’s saying I don’t think she’s in the water, as a helicopter would have found her, if it had thermal imaging. So they need to search the banks properly as some of them are covered in heavy growth, she could be there, it would be easy for a body to get snagged in some of that growth.

I think the police are in such a difficult situation now they need to quickly make sure they have covered every possibility. This appeal should have come out 10 days ago. It’s public pressure and the focus on it that’s making them revisit everything, as if it comes about they have made a bad assumption it will be very bad.

I suspect some very senior officers are now involved.

ofwarren · 06/02/2023 17:41

So are they saying they now DO have cctv at Rowanwater?

He’s either an unprofessional opportunistic business man who has inserted himself into the story - in some ways in his earlier claims he couldn’t lose - if she wasn’t there then that’s what he claimed - if she was then he’s the hero because he found her when previous missed her.

I think he has changed his tune once he is on the inside of the investigation - he is likely to have been briefed about parallel investigations that the police need more time on - so it’s not in the investigations interest for this guy to confirm she isn’t in the 10 mile stretch within a day…..

You might be right, it feels like he has gone "on message" with the police this morning. From everything I've read, this guy is the real deal.

melonraspberry · 06/02/2023 17:47

Those crime figures are awful for that area. I used that site a lot as I was buying in a fairly mixed area and I would have run a mile
with those figs. October 22 has 3 attacks as well - ridiculous they put violence and sexual attacks in same category though

I’d be interested if anyone else is bugged by this - the harness on the floor? I would never leave my dogs harness on the floor. I suppose she could have been holding it and dropped it if she rushed to the edge, or the dog could have moved it when agitated. But it also is something which lends a bit of credence to the idea things were placed there.

All this searching and they haven’t even found any clothes at all? Surely the wellies would come off ?

TokyoSushi · 06/02/2023 17:53

Exactly. All this focus on the river, I hope that there has been as much focus on the other things as well. Otherwise to start widening the search now after 11 days would mean that any evidence has likely disappeared.

I'm not usually like this with these things, I think it's because she's 'just like me' that it's really bothering me.

ofwarren · 06/02/2023 17:56

Hang on, why has the time changed?
I thought she was seen at 9:10?

I'm surprised no items of clothing have been found so far and it was also said at first that the dog was agitated and running to and from the gate which was closed
Shame animals can't talk
I hope she is found very soon
Her poor family are in agonising limbo

I wouldn't put much in that
My area says 12 violent and sexual offences in Dec, 19 in Nov, 25 in October
I WFH and yes I get things happen inside but I've seen nothing, there's been nothing in the newspaper and nobody has mentioned anything about it. Been here 16 years and it's not a hotspot for offences
I wouldn't be concerned walking around my area except probably very late at night
