Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

as he doesn’t seem like a fool

I disagree.

Yep. Perhaps he shouldn’t have criticised the police investigation from afar.

MayThe4th · 06/02/2023 13:48

I think when someone’s first interview is on GB news that says everything about their credibility and none of it positive.

He reminds me of that author who claimed he’d found Keith Bennett’s body and was gloating all over twitter with smiley faces etc. This one has the same smug attitude about him, and how convenient that he’s just released a book.

TennisWithDeborah · 06/02/2023 14:05

I really hope that her family and close friends get some answers soon.

Commonsensitivity · 06/02/2023 14:09

Just watched the early police report from 30th January which says the dog was found some distance away from the bench. They also said the dog was found after she was reported missing. This is different from later accounts.

Bluebellwood129 · 06/02/2023 14:31

@Commonsensitivity Was that directly from the police or reported in the media? There are so many different versions of events that no one seems to know exactly what happened and what evidence actually places Nicola at the bench, other than the discovery of her phone and the harness. I assume the police don't want to release this information, for whatever reason.

Wtf there is so many different things flying around if this is the case. How many people thought the dog was found by the bench and tied up there by the caravan park owner who then alerted her daughter in law? Because that's what I thought happened 🤷🏼‍♀️ I really feel for Nicolas family, this has become a bit of a circus. I really hope they get some answers soon

rosesarentalwaysred125 · 06/02/2023 15:06

the expert search dive person has changed his tune from "she's not in the river" to "if she's in the river we'll find her in minutes" to "if she's there we should know in the next few days"

AndysAudi · 06/02/2023 15:11

There is a concerted effort to shut this thread down and discredit the expert bloke. All other details about her disappearances are contradictory and confusing. The police have not handled the comms on this this very well. Lessons will be learned no doubt or not.

Don’t you agree he has rapidly changed his stance from his initial media appearances?

The police have to manage a huge amount of data and the only people that really need to know the details are the family, not folk on social media who are just nosy.

Just seen this on Facebook in recommended
A 'live link' to the search area
Wtf is wrong with people??

This has been a lesson in bad police comms. If they had been clearer there wouldn’t be so many inconsistencies and therefore hysteria.
And they absolutely should have closed off the area so that you couldn’t get people turning up taking selfies. Even as a public safety measure if they think she fell in, now you have dozens of people who possibly don’t know that path clambering around peering into the river . It’s absolutely nuts.

itsnote · 06/02/2023 15:40

"There is nothing to suggest at all that the police have missed anything and I’m getting incredibly frustrated with the suggestion they have."

@Nicknacky I know you're a Police Officer so I understand your frustrations. But when they appeal for the woman with the pram after she's been involved with the searches and the tennis club all week it just smacks of incompetence.

If they honestly didn't recognise her or the bright fucking yellow jacket themselves (embarrassing) then all they needed to do was show the image to anyone there who would've said "oh yes, that's X".

Bluebellwood129 · 06/02/2023 15:46

It's not really possible to say this for sure based on the conflicting reports. It sounds as though he's keeping an open mind and that's vitally important. Speaking from personal experience, the police can and do make extremely serious errors and people are right to critically question everything.

katseyes7 · 06/02/2023 16:02

Just a thought on the caravan site CCTV being off.
It's off season, l don't think anyone was staying there.
I believe (please correct me if l'm wrong) that the owner/s live onsite? Perhaps it's usual to have it switched off when the site's closed?
Really not sure. Just thinking about it.

You're looking at the wrong caravan site. That's not where the camera was broken

In a friend's FB status providing some clarification, it was updated to say this:

"CCTV at residential park at the top field had one camera not working, unfortunately the one that would have seen Nikki on the field towards the gate (not wyreside farm)"

So it wasn't the caravan site CCTV as previously posted, but the other residential lodge closer to the top field where she was seen at 9.10.

katseyes7 · 06/02/2023 16:06

itsnote Ah, thank you. I thought there was only one. My apologies.

Bluebellwood129 · 06/02/2023 16:10

Thinking some more about this, isn't it likely that the police have finally been provided with data from Nicola's Fitbit? Surely this would be the evidence they need to confirm that she definitely entered the water.

coteliq · 06/02/2023 16:12

let the guy do the job FFS

relentless interviews and media appearances, what for?

Even media savvy people are bound to make inconsistencies in answers if being asked the same thing multiple times

ofwarren · 06/02/2023 16:19

Search has finished for today

With tracking devices and watches, they can't sync to the phone when under water. They can only do it when out of water. Unless she is out of the water, I don't think they'll be able to sync with the fitbit

I think thr poster who said he was just agreeing with police when he said earlier the evidence was she was in the water. I think they are right.

he’s saying something isn’t right. Now he’s looked at it and been on site. The water where she fell in would have been 12 inches deep at that time. 12 inches. It doesn’t get deep till the middle. And the dog didn’t go down there after her.

it makes literally no sense. How can you accidentally fall into 12 inches of water. Drown, be swept away so quickly, that no one can find you and someone coming along 10 mins later doesn’t see you.

it’s incredibly odd.

I agree but are you definitely sure about the water depth. Initially I've heard it was only shallow, but then some said it was tidal, then some said it wasn't. My understanding is that where she would have fallen in is above the weir, so isn't tidal.

If the water definitely is that shallow at that point, then I can't see how it's possible she fell in and drowned, unless some crazy amount of bad luck combined all at once, say she banged her head in 12" of water. but then then water is still and she woiuld have been seen.

I guess it remains to be seen over the next day or two but it looks like today's search has been unsuccessful

Imagine just being like what can we do with our Sunday..? Oh I know! Let’s drive up to where that poor lady has gone missing, see what’s going on.

Nasty, nosey arseholes. Even if there has been encouragement (which I’ll have to take your word for)

Nicola’s friends organised search walks from St Michael’s to Knott End, giving start and end points for each one.

They’re desperate, and locals want to help. I’ve been away, but if I hadn’t, I would’ve gone to help too, if they’d needed me to.

Bluebellwood129 · 06/02/2023 16:25

@confounded234 Ah, OK. I thought I'd read that someone had offered to try and help to retrieve the data from the Fitbit somehow (I know Nicola hadn't synced with her phone recently) - apologies if this is incorrect information.
