Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

'Well they're certainly experts in bigging themselves up, particularly the founder. As for the police paying them 'all this money' - they offered to do it for free.'

Ah well that's good at least. Yes I did notice that, it did say they have had a lot of successful cases? It seemed to hint that the family pushed for the team, rightly so.

There's someone on the other thread saying that the company are using the same equipment that the police were already using and that the 'expert' is rowing back on his claims a bit.

coteliq · 06/02/2023 11:41

Waiting for the private company search results today

Don't know much about them but I must agree with their criticism on the police for not taping off the site at the beginning and checking all traces on the ground. I hope detailed photos have been taken.

The police did examine the area. They have confirmed that.

But did they examine it as a scene of crime, or just looking for signs of someone slipping into the river?

It has been examined with no sign of criminality. If there had been then there would have been a full forensic examination. Forensic examinations are not done on missing person enquiries unless there is evidence to suggest it is necessary.

Not to mention, what would they be searching for that would provide information as to her whereabouts?

BethFromThisIsUs · 06/02/2023 11:57

Some people are absolute fucking lunatics though. This kind of “mystery” brings out the absolute worst of them. I remember it was the same when Joanna Yeates went missing. People taking it upon themselves to “retrace her steps” buying the pizza etc.

I’ve just seen one woman on twitter berating the search team for their late start today and “can we aim tomorrow for an early start?” Like who the fuck is she, their line manager??

Then there are ones who have “deep dived” and feel entitled to info about the family’s finances etc.

this is just a couple of examples. The worst are the ones who have decided absolutely that her partner/sister is guilty. As if the police haven’t thought of that. They always think they know better.

Don’t even get me started on the absolute ghouls who have GONE TO THE SITE.

I don’t…who ARE these people??

Eatentoomanyroses · 06/02/2023 12:02

@BethFromThisIsUs there seems to be a lot of encouragement to go to St Michaels. I’ve seen them this morning taped up in our local shop windows and at shops tills etc. I would presume it’s close friends that’s organising these things but perhaps not.

ifonly4 · 06/02/2023 12:02

I read that the images I've seen where taken from the family's home, ie before she took her children to school. So I agree it'd be no surprise if she put the gilet on after that point.

BethFromThisIsUs · 06/02/2023 12:05

Imagine just being like what can we do with our Sunday..? Oh I know! Let’s drive up to where that poor lady has gone missing, see what’s going on.

Nasty, nosey arseholes. Even if there has been encouragement (which I’ll have to take your word for)

Suzi888 · 06/02/2023 12:15

Thanks @AndysAudi @ofwarren

There was a bloke who disappeared in this area awhile back- nothing further is being done about his disappearance as there’s no public outcry. If the media dies down, so will the search. I thought her family/friends were asking people to go down there and search the area.

SlaveToTheVibe · 06/02/2023 07:26

If that divers fancy tech doesn’t find anything, the police are going to be in such deep shit. No crime scene left.

Totally agree and my gut feeling is that she won't be found in there
. Her poor family :(

There's someone on the other thread saying that the company are using the same equipment that the police were already using and that the 'expert' is rowing back on his claims a bit.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, founder Peter Faulding, who pioneered bringing forensic sonar search equipment to the UK, said:

We have the best sonar equipment for the world that's available, for the highest frequency for this particular search. That river, we can literally scan within a day, a day and a half. Our kit is the best you can buy, it's the highest frequency, there are forces who carry sonar but it's a lot lower frequency generally. I'm not criticising the police, I work for them all the time, and I have great respect for them. I have had a very productive call with Lancashire Police this afternoon, we will build an excellent working relationship.

What I'm doing is offering our services free of charge to try and eliminate this river so the police can get on with their other enquiries and find out where Nicola is. It's the pain, the agony that this family are going through, you shouldn't have to search and search for 10 days."

ofwarren · 06/02/2023 12:29

The guy with the sonar is now saying he believes she IS in the water.
Yesterday he said she wasn't.
I wonder if the police have told him something?

Yes, apparently he's now rowing back on that a bit. I've not seen anything myself though.

I don’t understand all of this positive commentary around the underwater rescue teams who are being deployed today. If she’s found by them, it’s evidently going to be a very sad outcome considering this is her 11th day missing.
I think, however poorly placed at times, “speculation” over alternative outcomes springs from a place of hope rather than anything else.

I noticed this when I saw the post by the private company.. was reading the comments and a lot of people were just saying stay safe etc (fair enough) but a lot of people were saying ‘good luck’ and I thought.. good luck to find her dead? I think people probably just haven’t thought through what to say really. Obviously everyone wants her found but unfortunately if she’s in the river that’s not a good outcome for anyone 😔 I did think with the claims of how good this equipment/team is at finding people, if we were going to get any news it would be today

I’d say either police have given him information (but I really doubt there is any) or he’s just having to be on the same page as the police since it’s now a coordinated search. I noticed last night in an interview he made a big point of not criticising the police, whereas before he was involved he seemed much more critical

potniatheron · 06/02/2023 12:35

Can't believe how many posters get their kicks by jumping on this thread to scold people for coming on this thread.

Who do these self-appointed thread police think they are?

Dressing it up as concern when all they really want to do is demonstrate their superiority to the true crime watching masses.

it's not odd for a website for mums to see a couple of threads discussing the very hgih profile disappearance of a mum.

We're not in a police state so we're allowed to question the statements from the police.

Nicols Bulley's family have much better things to do than notice this thread.

If I'd been abducted I would bloody well want mumsnet and the entire internet hopping until I was found. And if I'd run away to start a new life I'd be secretly logging on and laughing at all the thread police from my internet cafe in Thailand.

He had a long briefing with the police yesterday.

Agree, he was briefed last night and again this morning, and he’s now totally changed his position and said he believes she’s in the water. Which leads me to believe the police have told him something that’s changed his mind, there isn’t another explanation, as he doesn’t seem like a fool.

I'm going by what the tweet from ITV says. I'm currently in the dentist waiting room and haven't watched the video.
The reporter says in that tweet that he said he believes she is.

AmillionReasons · 06/02/2023 12:39

'Obviously everyone wants her found but unfortunately if she’s in the river that’s not a good outcome for anyone.'

Unfortunately I'm not sure any of the scenarios would likely lead to a "good outcome" given the time that has passed. We all hope for a miracle but the chances of that are very slim. I think with this being the most likely scenario according to police, all people are meaning is it would give the family the answer they desperately will need. It is distressing enough when people go missing but must be absolute torture to not know what has happened to them.

I agree. It's at times like this that you're reminded just how thick and incredibly ignorant some people are. It's astonishing that they totally dismiss facts (eg the depth of the river) and create their own narrative, sharing it as fact.

Some of these people form jury's, teach our kids ...🥺

Apparently in the full interview his exact words are “i do believe she is in here from the evidence that we’ve got at the moment”
