Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

What's all this insistence that we should stop talking about NB without singling out any individuals? Quite aggressive in the way they want to shut this thread down Hmm

NB's friends and relatives want people to talk about this without blaming individuals. If you don't want to read about, hide the thread @EarringsandLipstick . It's really quite simple.

I probably will hide it. I've reported it too.

However, this line of 'hide it if you don't want to read it' isn't sufficient - I find it distasteful that this is even happening, regardless of whether I can see it or not.

Nothing you or other speculative posters are doing here is helping the family. Of course it's not. It's just prurient.

I hope and pray Nicola is found today. Her daughters must be distraught 🙏

I don’t understand all of this positive commentary around the underwater rescue teams who are being deployed today. If she’s found by them, it’s evidently going to be a very sad outcome considering this is her 11th day missing.
I think, however poorly placed at times, “speculation” over alternative outcomes springs from a place of hope rather than anything else.

illtakeit · 06/02/2023 10:35

EarringsandLipstick · 06/02/2023 10:24

that the police jumped to this conclusion, without doing any proper investigation

Of course they didn't. They are experienced and have reasons for determining the most likely scenario.

The family are of course questioning everything and will leave no stone unturned.

It is entirely false to say the police did no proper investigation. I have not seen the family say this (tho perhaps)

I don't want to continue to be part of such an invasive & inappropriate thread. The hyperbolic statements talking about years of finger pointing are what is distasteful. This isn't a TV drama.

I agree with this. The amount of people blaming the police is just ridiculous.

I take what you’re doing in this thread is really helping the family and friends ? Many posters are being respectful why shut them up? This is not the first thread about a person in mn , As long as people are respectful why try to censor it ?

The team with the sonar have just arrived

My ongoing concern here is 'what if she isn't in the water?' It's been 11 days and during that time a lot can happen.

I assume that other lines are being investigated as well just in case? It would be just awful if all the focus was on the river, that's not what's happened and something else has happened whilst people were looking the other way.

I do also accept that the river is the most likely explanation, I think that people are so invested because they really are still hoping for a positive outcome.

rosesarentalwaysred125 · 06/02/2023 10:52

I'm surprised by all the posts imploring us to have faith in what the police are saying, "the police know what they're doing" etc type posts. How many times in recent memory can you remember the police releasing statements apologising for their mishandling of crucial cases and getting things wrong?
So many times!

60smusic · 06/02/2023 10:54

A friend and an old neighbour did report that there are 3 cottages beside /near the caravan park. They all said that the family use to live in one of the cottages and that their business address was registered to there, that is why it's coming up on the search. They all said that they don't own or part own the caravan park or a caravan.

I do think people talking is keeping the 'case' active/alive, it's affected many people around the world. I don't know why some cases do this to people.

There is huge interest and yes, we've all read many disturbing things online regarding this, I'm in another country and Facebook is the only platform that we can get everything together, unfortunately it means seeing crazy opinions, horrible things that are in people's minds, awful, disgusting accusations against the family and friends, vile, vile comments. It's heartbreaking reading and seeing videos of people 'touring' the area, of course there are genuine people out helping in the search, and many missing people have been found due to the helpfulness of the public. However, reading last night one group who are all travelling today and planning to demand entry to the house being renovated and the caravan park makes me hope that those living there or own these properties are safe.

Blueyeveryday · 06/02/2023 10:55

So sad and such a strange case

AmillionReasons · 06/02/2023 10:56

The private sonar team have said if she is in there they will find her quickly. I hope they're right, the sooner the family are put out of this awful going around in circles the better. Let's hope if Nicola is devastatingly in there they will find her today.

I read on our local Facebook yesterday that some people were pretending to be police officers and got access to a few houses in the village.
I'm so glad I no longer live there.

AmillionReasons · 06/02/2023 11:00

Only wish the police had hired this team before now. Guess it has came down to cost.

Sadless · 06/02/2023 11:02

Regarding the full length gilet that could have been in car not for driving in just for when she goes on dog walk. Plus at her height a full length gilet will be really low.

I agree with this. I think people are just confused because she has seemingly vanished. But I do think most likely she is sadly in the water, and as awful as it is I hope they do find her quickly so the family can grieve and have some closure

Activelyannoyed · 06/02/2023 11:09

I also think the public interest is what has enabled this case to get more focus, the specialist unit wouldn’t be in there now if it wasn’t for people talking. Family and friends actively court the media. And good for them.

of course weird speculation, pretending to be coppers, going to the site to rubber neck, accusing people is unacceptable and the family and police are right to want that to stop . But this doesn’t mean all discussion should be silenced or that’s what they are asking. It doesn’t and it isn’t.

im also surprised at rhe lack of critical thinking of some people. The police have said x so all stop talking and accept it’s right. It’s hugely depressing we see this attitude in a free society.

people need to keep discussing this, but respectfully and within boundaries

This discussion should not be silenced.

Exactly this- An ankle length gilet is absolutely not what Nicola was seen wearing.
A knee length sleeved padded down type coat is what she appears to be wearing.
Her legs would be far less impeded in a knee length coat.

I hope that the Forensic water search expert will be allowed to use his superior equipment to scan the waterway.

He seems unconvinced that Nicola is even in the water.

Where did you hear that? That she wasn't wearing the gilet and no one saw her wearing it? Can you link that?

My understanding- they released pictures of her, in her driveway, getting in her car before she headed off to do the school run. I have an almost ankle length coat, I don't wear it while driving because i cant move my legs well in it. I put it on the backseat or boot and put it on when I get out of the car. Yes, the picture on her driveway don't show her wearing that coat - that doesn't mean it wasnt in the car and she wasn't wearing it after she dropped her kids at school and started on her walk.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong though, if you know something else.

Whether the private company really does have more advanced equipment I don't know but from what I can tell they just perform the same role in the SE as the North West Police Underwater Search & Marine Unit do in the NW.

I don't think it's the underwater search equivalent of calling in Poirot to help a country bumpkin police force equipped with a kids' dinghy and a periscope.

AmillionReasons · 06/02/2023 11:16

@pigsinoodies they claim to have more expertise at using the equipment. The fact that the police are paying all of this money to get them in they must have some credentials that the police do not.

No, she is wearing the gilet in the images, what I thought was a knee length coat is (as pointed out by a pp) a puffa gilet over a jacket . If you look closely you can see this at the shoulder point, so the gilet was mistakenly referred to as “ankle length”. Maybe a mix up with her ankle length wellies.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/02/2023 11:19

Why are the private underwater search team convinced they will find her if she's in the water? Can't bodies be swept downstream for miles?

I really hope she is found quickly for her family's sake

They've said they can cover about 10 miles a day, so presumably would cover a lot more ground in a shorter time than the police who apparently can only do a 100 meters a day

Dejavu23 · 06/02/2023 11:23

I can’t see the gilet in those photos of her in the morning.

kirinm · 06/02/2023 11:24

I'm not getting into the specifics of this case but the suggestion that the police know what they're doing seems to overlook the many many cases where it has been proven that they've started with one hypothesis and their unconscious bias means they've missed evidence.

That happened with Stephen Lawrence.

The detective in the article linked here is very sure that she has fallen into the river.

pigsinoodies · 06/02/2023 11:27

Well they're certainly experts in bigging themselves up, particularly the founder. As for the police paying them 'all this money' - they offered to do it for free.

Possibly they have got more advanced equipment than the NW Police unit and they'll be able to live up to their claims. I hope they do.

Apparently the company specialises in 'underwater search and protester removal'. I'm not sure if that means underwater protesters. That seems a bit niche.

AmillionReasons · 06/02/2023 11:29

'Well they're certainly experts in bigging themselves up, particularly the founder. As for the police paying them 'all this money' - they offered to do it for free.'

Ah well that's good at least. Yes I did notice that, it did say they have had a lot of successful cases? It seemed to hint that the family pushed for the team, rightly so.
