Just saw www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1264744/American-sends-adopted-Russian-boy-behavioural-pr oblems.html this on the news, how can anyone be so callous?

In tears now, as we have an adoption from India going through and dreading what its going to mean for us. Horrible woman!

OMG! [shock}

OK, I know the story is in the Daily Mail but this woman should be charged with criminal neglect. She just put him on a plane, unaccompanied, and returned him to Russia. Why on Earth did she not contact American social services if she was having problems?

What a cow.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/04/2010 17:31

Whatever you do don't read the evil, nasty comments on the daily Mail page. One is basically saying that there looks like something is wrong with his face so she should have sent him back

LaurieFairyCake · 09/04/2010 17:31

that was meant to be

I feel sick. DD (3) has just told me to, "turn the corners up" (of my mouth). My heart is breaking.

lostinwales · 09/04/2010 17:36

Tears here, I want her prosecuted and really hope that due to the publicity he gets the home and family he deserves.

farmerjones · 09/04/2010 17:40

i seriously hope the woman gets charged with criminal neglect.
if she couldnt cope, then she could have called american social services. any number of things. not just putting him on a plane.

can we organisse some sort of petition to get this woman charged with abuse?

skidoodly · 09/04/2010 17:41

"can we organisse some sort of petition to get this woman charged with abuse?"

get a grip

DorotheaPlenticlew · 09/04/2010 17:47

Huffington Post link here if you would like a non-DM version of the story (not that it is any less horrifying)

mustrunmore · 09/04/2010 17:48

I dont get this.Am I missing something? How could she expect to just send him back, and not get any reprisals from the authorities?

SuSylvester · 09/04/2010 17:50

LOTS of adoptions fail
it is VERY under rported

farmerjones · 09/04/2010 18:11

an adoption failing is one thing. sending a kid back on a flight, unaccompanied like that, is another matter entirely.
lots of people cant cope with their kids, adopted, or biological, but, they get help. they dont just return them to sender.

RunawayWife · 09/04/2010 18:11

I have returned many things in life but never thought you could send a child back like a pair of ill fitting shoes

I think adoptions involving children from other country's need to be looked at, as people like Madonna, Brad and Angie and their ilk have made it look trendy and sometimes it is not in the best interest of the child to be dragged half way round the world.

Poor little chap, if he was difficult surly the adoptive mother could have sought help from local services?? It seems extream in the least to put him on a plane and wash her hands of him.

What would she do if a biological child turned out to be less then perfect? Hard enough to pop one out of your fanjo, let alone shove one back in.

Children do not come with sale or return, no one has a God given right to be a parent (however you get a child).

I hope the little boy gets the help he needs and finds a family to love him, not to chuck him out with the trash when it gets a bit hard.

2shoes · 09/04/2010 18:13

poor little lad

Hulababy · 09/04/2010 18:25

I think she already has a biological child.

So sad for that young boy. Only 7y and turned out of his home and onto a plane without anyone caring or him How could anyone reach the point of doing that? Could she not have contacted SS or equivalent in the US for help?

Even if she really couldn't cope any loner and the adoption was going to fail, there are ways of doing it. You don't just dump the child on a plane and send them back!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 09/04/2010 19:09

I couldn't see anything in the DM story that explained why the airlines allowed an unaccompanied child to travel that far. Did no-one question why this child was being put on a plane by himself?

I read this earliier today, it made me cry.

That poor little boy, I hope he finds someone to love him

StarExpat · 09/04/2010 19:25

this is outrageous.
Unfortunately, I do know about this - there are many, many, non-reported cases where adoptive parents are unhappy and send kids back. I don't think it's usually unaccompanied on a plane...etc like this horrific woman did, but yes, it does happen - they don't all get help they need, rather request a "return". It is truly and horrifying. But it happens more than anyone would like to believe

NonnoMum · 09/04/2010 19:29

Haven't read the article, but isn't it true that something like 1 in 3 adoptions in this country break down? Not the same as putting them on a plane, but something to think about.
( I may be wrong and am happy to be corrected)

SoupDragon · 09/04/2010 19:29

"'He is violent and has severe psychopathic issues/behaviour. I was lied to and misled by the Russian orphanage workers and director regarding his mental stability,' "

Whilst I do not condone her actions, it is clear that the whole story is not being told here.

littleducks · 09/04/2010 19:34

I think this is a more complicated case than it seems.

The boy only had a US visa up until 4th April and had a russian passport, what are the implications of that regarding ss care in the US

The boy wasnt left alone, he was picked up from the airport by a man paid to do so ( a bad idea imo). Therefore the airline wouldnt have thought it strange that he was dropped up by grandmother and picked up in russia by this man.

The thing i dont uinderstand the most is why they would send him back there after she had said:
"
She also said the boy was very skinny when they picked him up, and he told them he had been beaten with a broom handle at the orphanage"

Surely they could have found a better solution.
