Just seen a ticker on the BBC website saying that

OP posts:

Fran - I am not a mod as I am sure you are aware.

I think flippancy on a thread such as this is contemptable. A man has lost his life in horrid circumstances, is that not worthy of serious contemplation?

Frankly if you want to piss around, I think you should take it elsewhere.

But as you say, I'm not a Mod...

Heathcliffscathy · 24/07/2005 00:08

mm.

we have two. one 'home' one. and dh's laptop from work.

we don't fight over pc space.

for months i've been encouraging him on here, saying how great the freedom of debate is [bemused emoticon]

Janh · 24/07/2005 00:08

jimjams, there were reportedly some uniforms there too.

Flossam · 24/07/2005 00:09

JJ, i don't know stockwell, so can't comment. but again we don't know for sure that he was chased only by non uniformed officers. they were certainly there immediately obvious.

Sophable i'm sorry if you felt ignored earlier, certainly not my intention, just got myself in a totally ridiculous pickle about everything and feel rather embarrassed by it all.

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 00:10

I am not pissing around.

and for your information i can answer yes to all of QofQ's earlier questions.

Frankly, i can see the lighterhearted side of life in times of trouble, if i couldn't i think i would be insane by now. ( or maybe i am already )

marthamoo · 24/07/2005 00:10

Thanks for clearing that up for me, soph.

Night all. I think all of us agree on something - it's been a dreadful couple of weeks.

Stay safe.

Jimjams · 24/07/2005 00:11

do you think he stopped long enough to look at them Janh? The eye witnesses talked about "plain clothes" so clearly they didn't see them either.

Honestly I used to hate going to Stockewell- I was always scared there- If I saw guns pointing at me in Stockwell I would run. Why on earth wouldn't he have stopped if he knew they were police. The police have said he's unconnected so clearly he was.

Flossam · 24/07/2005 00:11

immediately obvious eh, what the hell? immediately afterwards.

Heathcliffscathy · 24/07/2005 00:11

but soapbox, what about the gallows humour, like doctors that deal with death have (i know they do, i know some)...

sometimes a bit of humour helps in very serious circs....??????

Heathcliffscathy · 24/07/2005 00:13

flossam. i hope we can bury the hatchet?

Jimjams · 24/07/2005 00:14

I'm not even some huge libertarian - I voted Tory at the last election fgs (although I read the Guardian!) but this is indefensible.

Actually I think there is one big similarity to the Harry Stanley case- the police were pumped up.

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 00:14

Here is evidence that dispute can occur on one thread and agreement on another

Lets drag out the popcorn.

soapbox · 24/07/2005 00:15

Sophable - I have many medics who are friends and so I know what you mean. But there is a difference between humour and flippancy!!!

I know I am preaching to the converted, but someone lost their life yesterday in just about the most horrific circumstances you could imagine. I may be having a compelete sense of humpour failure, but I find it hard to laugh about it!

Heathcliffscathy · 24/07/2005 00:16

jimjams, better than voting for tony imo (and i have always previously voted labour) but michael 'vampire' howard. must have been a hard vote to cast

Heathcliffscathy · 24/07/2005 00:16

i hear you soapbox.

Flossam · 24/07/2005 00:16

Sophable yes lets

Meet you back here tomorrow evening though??!!

Janh · 24/07/2005 00:17

Times report

Heathcliffscathy · 24/07/2005 00:17

i can't promise to agree with you. in fact i probably wont'. but i'll try to be a little more circumspect in terms of how fast and hard i jump on your posts, if you can take me on the chin a bit more????

Flossam · 24/07/2005 00:18

Deal.

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 00:19

Oh soapbox, of course i am not laughing that someone has lost there life!!

Simply mildly amused that the good old Brits go about things the wrong way again.

In not too far away future this will feature in many a comedians gag.

I'm just beating them to it

oh boy i'm in for it now i know!

soapbox · 24/07/2005 00:19

Janh - thats from yesterdays paper???????

Janh · 24/07/2005 00:20

Ah, so it is, soapbox - sorry. (Looking around midnight can be confusing!)

soapbox · 24/07/2005 00:21

Fran - you are possiboly right.

But as they say, in comedy timing is all...

soapbox · 24/07/2005 00:22

Janh - going against my own grain I know but - PMSL!!!!!!!!

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 00:22

Thanks for that Janh, so he could not be quite so innocent after all!
