Just seen a ticker on the BBC website saying that

I think there has to be more to it. I'm not for one moment suggesting that he wasn't basically an innocent man, but...it is all just so strange.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 22:06

Ooops - actually I played for a wedding not a funeral - you'd think I'd be able to tell the difference wouldn't you

How do you know how long he'd been in the country? And why does your coat-owning status have any bearing on this?!

Sketchy snippetry - stop it!

wobblyknicks · 23/07/2005 22:06

Terrible if they let him on a bus (could have blown up the bus ffs) and if they didn't!!! He'd have had to walk (how long would that take) or go by car (block the road, burst his tyres???) There had to be stuff they could have done before the station!!

hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:07

QoQ, I would hope you could tell the difference by now Mind you, the way some people treat marriage, it may as well be the funeral march you play!

soapbox · 23/07/2005 22:07

OTOH HM - if there were some other explanation you can bet that the police wound have pulled it out by now!!!

hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:08

No, SB. They'll want to make sure they get it very right now.

Lua · 23/07/2005 22:09

He has been in England for 3 years. He is an eletrician.

I understand why the police is over paranoid.
But, I think they made a big mistake.
and killing people because you are paranoid is not good enough of a reason.

hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:10

Lua, you're right, it's not a good reason.

But we don't know it was the reason, that's what I'm saying! Because we don't know much at all!

soapbox · 23/07/2005 22:10

HM - I really think they would have released any mitigating circumstances when the story broke.

Oh well, we shall just have to wait and see I suppose!

Janh · 23/07/2005 22:10

wk, they were following him - they didn't know who he was or where he was going - he might have come from a cell of bombers and be going to lead them to a useful connection.

Assuming he really didn't get a bus (which I do now) they would just have been seeing where he went, and until he actually headed for the tube station there was no cause for them to stop him, but when he did they had to stop him ASAP.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 22:11

"How do you know how long he'd been in the country? And why does your coat-owning status have any bearing on this?! "

My coating owning status was an example to say he may have been wearing a winter jacket as that was all he owned. According to some other international news sites, police also said he was an electrician who'd been living here for 3yrs.

These are not your average coppers though (no offence to average coppers). These are special forces, highly trained. Not immune from making appalling mistakes, obviously, but I don't think 'paranoia' really comes into it.

Although it may well do from now on...

Janh · 23/07/2005 22:12

Lua, if he has been here 3 years he must understand English, why would he not stop when they told him to?

marthamoo · 23/07/2005 22:13

Would anyone like a nice drink in the bar? I have pork scratchings and scampi fries?

Lua · 23/07/2005 22:14

Well, the MET has already admited that he was unconnected with the incidents...
So what other reason could they have to kill someone with five shots in the head without him being armed?

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 22:14

I feel like we're going round in a big circle here, there are many reasons he may not have stopped, and we may never know why now.

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:14

I understand you were giving a possible reason, QoQ, but it's not what will make me sympathetic - only facts will do that! Call me heartless, but I can't be arsed to waste tears over someone who might yet turn out to be a nasty piece of work.

If he is shown to be innocent and totally the wrong man, that is extremely sad, of course it is - I hope you know me well enough to know that I'm not heartless!

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 22:17

" but I can't be arsed to waste tears over someone who might yet turn out to be a nasty piece of work. "

The police have already confirmed he had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks.

Unless he was a mass murdereder or a paedophile (and you justify them being killed for their crimes - which I don't - but that's a whole new thread) I can't see how we can't at least have some sympathy for that fact he was killed for something which he hadn't/wasn't going to do!

OP posts:
soapbox · 23/07/2005 22:18

HM - I hope to God that people are not being executed on teh streets of London for being 'a nasty piece of work'. Thats what our British judicial system is for, it is not for the snap decision of the police to decide guilty or not guilty.

That is where my disquiet comes from. Where does it all end???

Flossam · 23/07/2005 22:18

Snafu, whats wrong with my average copper? Hmph >Flounce

Caligula · 23/07/2005 22:19

Hmm. I suppose Brazilians may go in for suicide bombings just as anyone else, but he'd be the first if he were intending to be one.

Caligula · 23/07/2005 22:19

Hijack - Flossam - I've e-mailed you (I realised it's the weekend so CAT might not work till Monday).

snafu · 23/07/2005 22:19

Ooooh now, don't you dare go getting all flouncey on me, young lady

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 22:20

PMSL - this will make you giggle.

I was just thinking about all these eye witnesses who said the man killed was "asian" - so was looking for some pictures of 'asians' and 'brazillians' to see if I could see how they could be mistaken........

Lets just say I typed "Brazillian" into the google image search and came up with some pictures
