QOQ 'we may never know'

Wow, we are actually agreeeing on something

Flossam · 23/07/2005 22:21

Look forward to it Caguila! I'll email you back when I get it! Aww bless his heart, if only he realised!

Ladymuck · 23/07/2005 22:21

His actions were incredibly stupid under the circumstances, and of course there may be genuine reasons as to why he would want to run from the police, but this is still an unfortunate tragedy.

"Wow, we are actually agreeeing on something"

NO! NEVER! I CAN'T LET IT HAPPEN!!!!

"Lua, if he has been here 3 years he must understand English, why would he not stop when they told him to?"

No idea, janH, wasn't there, and don't know him

He could have jumped the barriers not to pay to go in the tube, and ran afterwards not to be caught?
Or maybe he had no idea who were these people telling him to stop i.e if they din't have uniforms?

Of course this is all speculation... (which is why HM is banging her head in the wall )

But it is pretty das that such a great society, like the british, that is usually sensitive enough to not carry guns, vould perhaps now be killing people for being cold. Because apparently the only reason to shoot is the belief he could have a bomb....

BTW, I thought people were supposed to be innocent until proven the contrary...

hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:25

SB, if more people were shot for being nasty pieces of work, I think we might all be happier

Lua - thanks for spotting me - my head's bleeding now...

Lua · 23/07/2005 22:25

das = sad

MN is teaching me something... I think I am dislexic!

Janh · 23/07/2005 22:27

speculation is one of the great British hobbies though - the less you have to go on the better

hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:28

True, JanH! Have I stopped everyone enjoying their speculating on this thread?

Flossam · 23/07/2005 22:29

QoQ.

I hope we do get some answers.

saadia · 23/07/2005 22:31

Haven't read the whole thread (surprise surprise) but am just appalled at this news. An innocent man pinned down and shot five times in the head.

Agree with everyone who said that being followed by a pack of plain-clothes police with guns might cause me to panic and run as well - what an awful way to die.

As others have said, why didn't they apprehend him sooner if he was a suspect?

It seems that while the public is being told to panic and keep calm, the police just can't keep it together.

hunkermunker · 23/07/2005 22:32

It would seem not...

edam · 23/07/2005 22:44

Christ, this is terrible. It's not hindsight to ask how this execution of an innocent man can have happened. It's a reasonable, urgent question. God, when I heard about the shooting, I thought of Harry Stanley, and all the other innocent people who have been killed by the police in error.

I have to get on the tube for work almost every day in August. Don't know whether I should be more scared of bombers or of the police or security forces claiming to be police now.

And before anyone leaps in to say 'how do you know he was innocent' the police have admitted he wasn't actually a suicide bomber or a suspected suicide bomber. Poor man.

monkeytrousers · 23/07/2005 22:45

Hey, sorry quick hijack!

Can I ask all of you to look at the 'petition against 'Islamic' terror' and think about supporting it?

Much appreciated!

Janh · 23/07/2005 22:51

edam, it is hindsight to say "he wasn't actually a suicide bomber or a suspected suicide bomber" - they didn't know that when they shot him.

Janh · 23/07/2005 22:51

mt, I have signed it, creep creep

edam · 23/07/2005 22:55

From what the police have said so far (and if they had better reasons, they would have released them as justification) their reasoning was he left a house under surveillance, he was wearing a thick coat and failed to stop when challenged by a bunch of men in plain clothes pointing guns at him. Who had been following him for some distance, let's not forget. And this all makes it clear enough that he's a suicide bomber to pump five shots into his HEAD, FFS?!

Janh · 23/07/2005 22:57

When he refused to stop when challenged, vaulted the barrier and tried to run into a train they had something of a dilemma, didn't they?

There is a terrific post by marthamoo way down the page - they were damned if they did and damned if they didn't. They didn't know he wasn't carrying explosives.

Fran1 · 23/07/2005 22:58

Having skimmed through this thread i'm surprised with it.

Yesterday we were all relieved they had shot someone, yes having sympathies for the police for the man and for his families, speculated how awful it would be if he was innocent.

Today its become apparent he is innocent and yes that is a tragedy.

But i don't understand how we can blame the police.

They are absolutely desperate to stop this before things escalate. They had very good reason to suspect this male. They shot him. I am certain that from the moment those shots were made every member of the police force was worrying that they'd done the right thing, as were we all.

But we cannot now turn around, after being supportive yesterday, and now criticise them.

Great quote made earlier about another death being the result of terrorism.

It's stupidity to now be saying oh if i go out in a big coat i might get shot.
The police are not about to start firing randomly around the streets. Yes if you act suspiciously, live next door to terrorists and run when asked to stop, you will be shot. But i don't think we all have to be concerned for our lives being taken from the police - only the terrorists.

Shall continue reading the thread now, so apologies if have repeated anything.

No we weren't

Yes we were

If I thought for one minute that I did not have to go through the worry of Thursday again then it would be a small price to pay.

He was challenged, he valulted the turnstiles, he kept running .

Fran1 · 23/07/2005 23:03

I don't get picky QofQ. You may not have been.

But imo there was a general feeling of relief both here and in rl that someone had been caught and possibly a bomb been prevented from going off.
