Marina has justed text'd me, she has managed to get a train back to Sidcup - packed and badly delayed but she's relieved to at least be on a train!

DH is stuck in north london tonight unless the transport system goes back online (we live in south london), stepdad is stuck in an office near Charing Cross (usually based in Redhill, typical that he's in central london today!)

We're worried (but in a calm nonpanicky way) about my MIL. She works for the Imperial Hotel just off Russell square, and gets the tube to Russell Square station every morning. DH is sure that she would have been there before the explosion, but we can't get through to the hotel - all their lines are down. DH and BIL are just going to keep trying. SIL (in Cyprus) is watching it all unfold on their BBC channel and is desperate to know MIL's alright. It won't even occur to MIL to phone anyone.......

Aero · 07/07/2005 14:23

Any news piffle?

Earlybird · 07/07/2005 14:32

Anyone in contact with IlanaK? Think she lives not far from King's Cross/Russell Square.

There is a main road close to our building which is a major artery for traffic into/out of the city. It is almost clear of traffic, and people are walking away from town - silently. It is eerily quiet, with not much else but the sound of sirens. I can see helicopters hovering in various places, and not long ago one flew very low directly over our building.

Glad you're all OK.

munz · 07/07/2005 14:35

my dh was on a tube going through edgware road, then train stopped at next station and everyone told to get off because of a power surge, then
the train behind him at edgware road blew up.
he is a bit shocked but OK. not sure if he is going to get home tonight though, is paddington open?

it is all horrible.

Puff · 07/07/2005 16:20

PPH, the National Rail Website is saying that services are running out of Paddington to Bristol and other destinations, but not sure about times.

JulieF · 07/07/2005 16:23

I've just emailed Ilana a link to this thread. I wish I could remember the name of her nursery.

PrincessPeaHead · 07/07/2005 16:23

Twiglett · 07/07/2005 16:24

Does anyone know if aloha is ok??

Puff · 07/07/2005 16:27

Dino said she thinks she's still on Mat Leave

Marina · 07/07/2005 16:27

Xena and 2MPC, thank you both so much You are kind!
Made it home safely, everyone being very British and phlegmatic at London Bridge (usually the scene of swearing contests between SE Trains staff and their happy customers).
I'd say anyone south-east of the river will get home OK. All the SE London local buses are running fine.
Wishing others a reasonable journey home.
I for one planted a huge smacker on my somewhat puzzled son, who is downstairs watching children's tv! "Stop pestering and kissing me mum". Long may his obliviousness to what's happened today continue...

Springchicken · 07/07/2005 16:27

Not seen her anywhere here today Twiglett - hopefully, someone has heard from her ....................anyone?

tortoiseshell · 07/07/2005 16:33

Hope everyone's ok - hideous day, hope you're all safe and home with your families asap. xxxx
