Why can't people just leave us alone

Because state faith schools are funded by the state, which has democraticaly decided that discrimination against homosexuality - which means treating it in any way as inferior to heterosexuality - is not lawful.

I believe that state education affords people who practice a religion the same courtesy, so your views are respected. Lucky for you, because in my government your state funded religious schools which gives priority to those with particular beliefs, would not exist. So be thankful that you already enjoy certain priveliges.

You can try and indoctrinate teach children at school to absorb whatever you want to teach them, but you can't make them believe it forever (real life examples already in this thread). They will grow up in a forward thinking society and realise (that what they have been taught about gay not being normal) it is all a crock and that living in a diverse society there is really no such things as normal.

We are all different in our own ways and nobody has the right to judge whether another person, abiding by the law, is living their life correctly or not.

Teaching catholic children that gay is bad clearly does not work.....again, examples on this thread.

Good to see you back Riven!

scarletlilybug · 14/01/2010 11:12

Don't worry, DP. It's not as if Nick Clegg is actually ever going to be PM now, it is?

DuelingFanjo · 14/01/2010 11:14

Ah ha - you can see me.

Daftpunk - do you think Homosexuality is abnormal?

Lizzylou · 14/01/2010 11:15

I ask again, DP do you go to church and do your DC attend RC school?

Because your take on the RC religion seems very outmoded to me.

Yes, I go to church and all my dc go to catholic schools...and tbh, it sickens me when I read posts on here about the pope, but of course it's ok to abuse and attack the head of the catholic church.

Exactly the same as it is ok for the pope to attack people whose lives he doesn't agree with.....

Respect is a two way street.

Lizzylou · 14/01/2010 11:22

What are your DC taught at school re: Homosexuality, DP? Sorry, I don't know their ages, so they may too young for it to have been touched upon in school.

Would you rather they be taught intolerance?
That people in any way different to them (well, we don't know, they could grow up and surprise you by being "different") are wrong and unnatural?

It is a double edged sword, you don't like attacks on the Pope/yourself for his/your views yet preaching intolerance means that your DC will grow up attacking others for their views.

Disenchanted3 · 14/01/2010 11:23

DP, picture this.

Your daughter is raised by you, once she reaches her teens she becomes aware she is a Lesbian. Now this (I imaagine) is a very difficult time for her, she wants to confide in you but knows your views, she knows you will see her as abnormal but she desperatly wants to be able to share this with you as keeping it a secret is a great emotional burden to her.

(how do you think that would play out?)

And years later .... your daughter has found someone (a woman) she loves very much, they have been together for years, they decide to get married. Your daughter and partner have vvery good jobs, a lovely home. They give you beautiful Grandchildren, your daughter is very happy.

Can you seriously tell me you would be upset with that? You would be upset with that happy, stable, loving relationship because one of them doesn't have a penis???

I really do not get it!

Lizzylou · 14/01/2010 11:23

That is very true, TheButterflyeffect, I wouldn't have chosen a RC education for my boys if Catholicism hadn't moved on.

Squeezy, you put it far more succinctly than me!

daftpunk · 14/01/2010 11:23

Squeezy....but are the people who call the pope a homophobic wanker banned..?

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 14/01/2010 11:24

Daftpunk - will you be teaching your children that homosexuality is abnormal?

Wonderstuff · 14/01/2010 11:25

But what exactly do you object to DP? Homosexuality is normal, the law protects people from being discriminated against on the grounds of sexual orientation, all Clegg is asking for is schools to tackle homophobic bullying and teach that homosexuality is indeed normal. I imagine they will have to include a line about homophobia in thier bullying policy and spend a few minutes of a PSE lesson on discussing sexuality. I they can still tell children all about the churches view of sex outside marriage in RE.

Disenchanted3 · 14/01/2010 11:26

DP people call the pope, one man directly because his own words and actions.

You tar millions of people with one brush, thats the difference.

You hate gay people in general because of what they are, not 1 specific person because of what they say.

Disenchanted3 · 14/01/2010 11:28

Theres a world of difference in saying

'the pope is a twat because he did x, said y and didn't do z'

and

'gay people are abnormal'

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 14/01/2010 11:28

"...but are the people who call the pope a homophobic wanker banned..? "

Have you been banned?

Exactly.

GrimmaTheNome · 14/01/2010 11:29

DP, I think calling anyone a 'wanker' is a bit peurile and should be ignored.

But its not really unfair to call the pope homophobic when he saysthis sort of stuff. Sounds like he finds homosexuality pretty scary.

daftpunk · 14/01/2010 11:30

Disenchanted3;

I don't talk about homosexuality with my dc, I have never said anything negative about gay people, I just don't say anything..

If any of my children were homosexual I would continue to support and love them just like I do now...nothing would ever change.

OP posts:
Disenchanted3 · 14/01/2010 11:30

I find that hard to believe from your posts here.

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 11:31

Ooh Riven when did you get back? Glad to see you here anyway - you were missed.

I for one wish that we didn't have faith schools.

I also loathe homophobia whether it comes from hatred, fear or just plain ignorance and stupidity. Gay people are no better or worse than straight people. Why on earth can we not view gay and lesbians as normal, regular human beings for crying out loud.

It is NORMAL.

I am sick to fucking death of threads like this.

GrimmaTheNome · 14/01/2010 11:32

Well, thats fine DP. Now, if the rest of the churches would quit pontificating too and leave everyone else alone then there wouldn't be much of a problem, would there?

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 14/01/2010 11:32

If I called NC a 'liberal wanker' for wanting to teach kids that gay is ok, the you'd (and I'm guessing here, so apologies if I am wrong) probably agree with me. But to call the pope a 'homophobic wanker' is bad? I'm being totally sincere, would one be ok but not the other?

And I don't think any of them are wankers, am not fussed by either the pope or NC.
