I read that the Pope's funeral has now been scheduled for Friday....the day Charles and Camilla are due to wed. In your opinion, should they postpone their wedding?

And, do you have any feelings about their wedding...especially with all the confusion about will she/won't she eventually be Queen, and will she/won't she be given the title of Princess of Wales?

And I think with Popes they devote their lives and any legacy to the church.
I and Dh are baptised Catholics but a little lapsed but still Catholic enough to head to church every now and then. Ds also goes to catholic primary (and loves it) dd will also go there.
Worst (hypothetical)thing about Ian Paisleys presumed apoplexy is that should he (in the style of pope JP) expire from such an event, there is his equally terrible son as heir apparent
Cold chills anyone?

sansouci · 04/04/2005 21:28

LOL, Fimbo. Wondered the same thing.

Caligula · 04/04/2005 21:31

I know - Ian P Jr makes his dad look mellow.

See last paragraph below (from Observer piece in Feb):

Piffle, lol at your description 'of popes' ! Janh, aaah, thanks for that. Oh ffs! It's so farcical isn't it? What was it Annabel Goldsmith said, something like 'well, if you're the mistress and you marry him, you create a vacancy' ha ha. Not that it's likely with Charles, I just don't get this Chirac type mistresses are ok thing. I know ER doesn't think it's ok, just rambling. Leave me be, I'm happy

WideWebWitch · 04/04/2005 21:34

I meant 'with popes' Piffle, it just made me laugh!

WideWebWitch · 04/04/2005 21:35

Ah right. So Charles was married but it was Camilla's fault? Right, got that! Thanks!

piffle · 04/04/2005 21:36

well caligula there is always the slight hope that in their combined combustion IP mkI and mkII bang heads together hard enough to shut both of them up permanently
I am a devoted pacifist and when asked if I had one bullet... it used to be a toss up between IP and Thatch, but not for many yrs now...

Kayleigh · 04/04/2005 21:37

Purely selfish but I am so very happy they have postponed the bloody wedding. It is mine and dh's wedding anniversary on the 8th April and i was really pissed off at the thought of sharing it with C+C.

Now i don't have to

sansouci · 04/04/2005 21:49

Just heard re Jean Paul II : "reports of youthful love affairs abounded, most notably a formative relationship with the actress daughter of his grammar school headmaster."

(dh reading aloud from today's FT.)

Did anyone else hear on the news today that 2 other couples have been forced to postpone their weddings so that C&C can now have theirs on the Saturday?

I don't care how difficult it would have been for the "royal" (how royally are they behaving???) wedding to be moved to another week, I think it is disgusting that they have so little regard for others that they are prepared to foist that heartache on other people.

LIZS · 05/04/2005 08:25

That wouldn't surprise me Freckle. Either that or that others had wanted to book for the 9th and been refused, in case of contingency. After all how many Registry Office would have a blank Saturday morning in the Spring time. Probably been handsomely compensated though.

LIZS · 05/04/2005 08:29

Oh, and apparently (if you believe The Sun) Queen is even less happy becasue it is 3rd anniversary of Queen Mum's death and she amy have to miss coverage of the Grand National. story here

golds · 05/04/2005 10:12

Excuse me if I'm being thick here, but why is Charles attending the funeral on behalf of the Queen, why isn't she going herself ??

Lonelymum · 05/04/2005 10:13

On the news last night they said that there were no weddings booked at the registry office until the afternoon and their ceremony is gong to be at 12. Are you sure some other couples have had to move their wedding to accommodate C & C?

hunkermunker · 05/04/2005 10:13

LIZS, your first mistake would be believing The Sun

JanH · 05/04/2005 10:19

She never does, golds. dunno why.

golds · 05/04/2005 10:25

too important no doubt

Did ASDA or the equal supermarket of the time, make a fake of Dianas Engagement ring and flog it for a tenner?
Tee hee that really cracked me up, we ARE embracing the memorabilia if nothing else

Enid · 05/04/2005 16:52

Queen is terminally ill according to Popbitch

Tinker · 05/04/2005 18:20

Laughing so much at teh thought of Ian Paisley being off his head about this

Couldn't give a stuff about C&C but really hate him now after his churlish comments about Nicholas "Nick" Witchell - made me feel all defensive towards him. NW that is.

Anyway, am truly glad wedding postponed because it is my daughter's birthday and didn't want it sulllied by having to share it with an, urgh, royal wedding.

WideWebWitch · 06/04/2005 10:43

Gosh really enid?

JanH · 06/04/2005 10:50

popbitch email 31/3: bad taste joke alert.

JanH · 06/04/2005 10:55

This one is good (I had read an oblique ref to this elsewhere!):

No Marley No Cry
