Pope's Funeral/Charles & Camilla Wedding

I read that the Pope's funeral has now been scheduled for Friday....the day Charles and Camilla are due to wed. In your opinion, should they postpone their wedding?

And, do you have any feelings about their wedding...especially with all the confusion about will she/won't she eventually be Queen, and will she/won't she be given the title of Princess of Wales?

I don't see how they can have got married without:

  • The Archbishop of Canterbury (not Robbie Williams)
  • The Prime Minister
  • Prince Phillip

(and numerous others no doubt)

I'm more bothered that the Grand National is on Saturday and if my coverage of that is screwed for a wedding of little relevance to me then I'll be mighty pissed awf!
Seriously I quite like Charlie Boy and I am pleased he finally gets his woman. Whether she is Queen or what, any royal spouse would be an improvement on that buffoon that is Prince Philip.

I don't really see how they can get married without Robbie Williams.

Or Elton John. I think any half-way naffo celeb wedding has to have Eltie (and his partner David Furnish of course) to grace its presence, otherwise it doesn't have legal status, surely?

She'll never be queen if Elt doesn't sing at her wedding.

Candle in the Wind might be a bit inappropriate though?

Am I the only one who finds it more than mildly amusing that 400 amd something years after the reformation, the future King of England and head of the Church of England, has postponed his wedding to go to the Pope's funeral.

Sorry, but it just tickled my funny bone

sansouci · 04/04/2005 20:30

Liz stark naked, Elt too.

Caligula · 04/04/2005 20:30

LGJ - my feelings exactly. Hence the comment about Ian Paisley. I bet he's livid.

LGJ · 04/04/2005 20:30

If Elton John sings at the wedding, that will mean an old Queen singing to a Queen to be.

JanH · 04/04/2005 20:30

Am I the only one who thinks the Vatican decided to have the funeral on Friday precisely because of C&C's wedding and the Reformation?

morningpaper · 04/04/2005 20:31

It crossed my mind too Jan!

I thought it was funny that Charles decided to go to the Pope's funderal - probably the LAST royal family member they want to see! I think it's his revenge for messing up his wedding!

sansouci · 04/04/2005 20:32

LGJ, read your post out to dh; his response, "Bang on!" The fact that C&C have had to postpone their wedding is even funnier.

LIZS · 04/04/2005 20:33

What about the wedding present list - John Lewis vs House of Fraser- or is it cash or personal cheques only ? Doesn't the Queen normally donate an estate or title or something.

morningpaper · 04/04/2005 20:33

Uhm I think the point is that it IS 400 years after the Reformation...

sansouci · 04/04/2005 20:34

So called Reformation only because Henry XIII wanted "son & heir"?

LGJ · 04/04/2005 20:48

The Vatican is now working to a plan which was drawn up in meticulous detail by John Paul II, a full nine years before his death.

It sets out the arrangements for his funeral and the subsequent conclave - the secret meeting of cardinals that will be convened later this month to elect his successor.

Now, the Pope was many things, and he was blessed with many things........but I don't think 9 years foresight was one of those things.

Earlybird · 04/04/2005 20:54

Interesting that he had the sort of foresight to draw up plans 9 years in advance of his death, yet died without a will.....

I'm very sorry about the Pope and all but the thought of Ian Paisley doing his nut apoplectically about the future King of England putting aside his wedding to attend a papist funeral?
It is payment enough!

sansouci · 04/04/2005 21:18

Earlybird, look what you've started! LOL...

BTW I am CofE but dh Catholic, as are dd & ds. Go figure!

WideWebWitch · 04/04/2005 21:19

I've just skimmed over this but WHY isn't the Queen going to the C&C wedding, does anyone know? What's the official reason? I am interested, despite myself.

Caligula · 04/04/2005 21:20

It's glorious isn't it. All the orange men will be so angry with Charles. There's a section of the population he's alienated all right!

Surely the pope doesn't need to leave a will because he technically didn't own anything? Vow of poverty and all that...

Fimbo · 04/04/2005 21:23

I would like to know if he died a virgin

JanH · 04/04/2005 21:24

WWW, she hates Camilla cos it's all her fault (not Charles's, oh my goodness no, she made him commit adultery you know )

Hang on, will try to find my source for that.

JanH · 04/04/2005 21:26

Officially "the Queen had let it be known that the reason she would not be attending the wedding of the Prince of Wales was because she was putting her duties as the head of the Church of England before family feelings."

But bear with me...
