Pope's Funeral/Charles & Camilla Wedding

I read that the Pope's funeral has now been scheduled for Friday....the day Charles and Camilla are due to wed. In your opinion, should they postpone their wedding?

And, do you have any feelings about their wedding...especially with all the confusion about will she/won't she eventually be Queen, and will she/won't she be given the title of Princess of Wales?

Andrew Parker Bowles still looks pretty chipper to me.

As for Diana, well, unfortunately it's almost impossible to have a sensible conversation about her, even 8 years on. I disagree that 'we all know what she went through'. We all know what we've read in the papers. Different thing completely, imo.

flashingnose · 04/04/2005 13:34

Agree snafu and at chipper APB!

Both the funeral and wedding are on Friday.

marthamoo · 04/04/2005 13:42

As I am not going to either - wedding or funeral - I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole thing. I am going to a far superior wedding, on the Saturday.

Ameriscot2005 · 04/04/2005 13:46

I live in the next town over from Windsor and had been toying with the idea of popping into Caleys to pick up a few bits of school uniform on Friday . But, I think I will probably watch the funeral instead (not a Catholic, btw).

Fimbo · 04/04/2005 13:48

Think I would rather watch Ken & Deirdre's - Ray kicks the bucket at the reception.

Are Ken and Deirdre getting married on the same day as C&C as well?

RTMTMML · 04/04/2005 13:51

I think that they should go ahead and have the quiet wedding that they say they want. I'm lmao that poor old Tone is doublebooked. How on earth will he be able to get his spot in the Prince's limelight now? Ha ha ha ha ha. And being just one of many at the funeral will not impress him. I bet he's hopping mad. (Incidentally I'm not making light of the funeral)

Fimbo · 04/04/2005 13:51

Yep. What a dilema eh?

Caligula · 04/04/2005 13:52

God you'd think C&C would have had the decency not to double book with K&D!

Liz-don't know which eurotrash were going to be there but one of the online newspapers indicated it was a problem. Think the Spanish monarchy maybe?

franke · 04/04/2005 14:01

I think the fact that the Vatican have gone ahead and scheduled the funeral for the same day shows how utterly insignificant the C&C wedding is in the great scheme of things.

LIZS · 04/04/2005 14:03

Quiet agree franke. Story is here .Like the bit about Asda ripping off her engagement ring - classy !! Oh, and Charles has a yet another curtailed ski holiday.

Ameriscot2005 · 04/04/2005 14:06

Whatever everyone's opinions about the various issues, I'm sure you will all agree that C&C are extremely unlucky with this wedding. It has been dogged from the start with so many issues, and just as everything seems to be OK for them, the blimmin' Pope has to die!

Toothache · 04/04/2005 14:07

I'm not religious at all, but was still upset by the death of the Pope.... but more upset at the way he died so publicly and every deterioration reported on 24hr news.

However, I don't see why the wedding should be postponed or cancelled. He was the head of the Catholic Church, but that bears no importance on the life of those who do not follow that Catholic faith.... or does it? Am I being naive here?? I can appreciate that for Catholics and perhaps all of those who follow the Christian faith that he was a massively prominent figure and a leader.

But life goes on and I really don't see C & C getting married as problematic..... apart from to the Broadcasting companies wanting to avoid the ratings war between who watches what!

Let them get on with it.

clary · 04/04/2005 14:11

well, I say tony B is double-booked, I don't even know if he was invietd to the wedding... all I do know is that the queen wasn't going to go anyway and now she has a really good excuse!

LIZS · 04/04/2005 14:13

Agree with you for the most part, Toothache.

However isn't Charles trying to portray himself as a representative of the British people, regardless of race, creed or religion. He risks upsetting a significant proportion of them if his wedding is seen as disrespectful to the Pope, who after all is a more universally influential figure, in addition to how it may be viewed by Catholics and others across the world.

Roobie · 04/04/2005 14:13

I bet poor old Rowan Williams is in a bit of a dilemma - I'm sure he would rather be rubbing shoulders in a stateman-like manner with the rest of the world's church leaders in Rome on Friday rather than doing C&C's blessing.

DillyDally · 04/04/2005 14:15

For a brief second I read Robbie Williams in your post Roobie

Caligula · 04/04/2005 14:15

Think the issue is that the pope is a head of state (even though it's the smallest state in the world - I think?) and Britain has to be represented at the funeral. Normally the representation would be done by Charles himself, plus a minister (PM if the HOS is important enough - apparantly the queen doesn't attend state funerals) so now they've got a dilemma about who reps Britain at the pope's funeral.

misdee · 04/04/2005 14:16

well seeing as i am meant to be at both..........

seriously, i'm sad that the pope dies, and dont care the c+c married, but dont really care much for the whole televised thing for either. funerals are horrible things, and will just be sending some good thoughts over the popes way, and hope c+c finally have what they have been waiting for.

noe ken and dierdres wedding, that may be worth watching.
