If anyone is intersted.

It's at 12.30pm along Embankment, nearest tubes Embankment and Charing Cross.

It's being organised by Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coaltion and numerous other groups.

I will bump this sporadically, but if anyone else would like to help promote this, plaese bump too.

I will be there.

That is also on the BBC Piffle.

ruty · 08/01/2009 16:30

oh no.

Piffle · 08/01/2009 16:36

Israel and Palestine have different views to what they want from Jerusalem...
A Palestine state with Jerusalem as its capital?
No chance
Bit even a shared Jerusalem with international protected status is objected to by both Israel and Palestinians for various reasons
And sharing the security and policing of Jerusalem?
Israel says no.

I think if they can agree on some form of Jerusalem problem solving then an agreement is within reach.

Sputnik · 08/01/2009 17:04

Agree about a 2 state solution.
Having just read this though I am losing my will to argue the toss on here for the moment

As someone who is pretty impartial in this, it seems hard to avoid the view that whilst there is some justification for limited Israeli military action on the grounds of self-defence the Israeli response has been wholly disproportionate by any norm you care to choose, be it moral, humanitarian or even just by the most basic tenets of international law.

Pan · 08/01/2009 18:07

I did post this last night, but thought it was unlikely to actually happen..

as far as I see, Israel has no concern about basic levels of other people's dignity and even survival. So when is Israel going to be listed as a 'rogue state'?

saadia · 08/01/2009 18:09

cestlavie I think you have summed it up perfectly.

donnie · 08/01/2009 19:49

yes sputnik I have just seen the Channel 4 news guy demand some answers from Israeli spokesman Mark Regev about the fact that several Red Cross workers have gone on record to say that Israeli soldiers deliberately refused them entry to an area where they know there were dead and dying people, including children. Then, after 3 days they eventually granted access. When the dead mothers were found along with the starving children wailing over their corpses, the soldiers refused to allow an ambulance through the blockade and in the end they (the Red Cross)had to use a donkey and cart to get the people out of there.

You know what ? those Israeli soldiers are filth. Disgusting scum. And the UN members can't even agree on the wording of a fucking resolution for the terms of a ceasefire. And if anyone - anyone at all - attempts to justify this - like lisalisa justifying the attack on the UN school yesterday - then they are also filth.

KayHarkerREFUSESTOSimper · 08/01/2009 20:24

Oh, god donnie, I feel sick

It's never going to end.

Whatever anyone says or thinks. It's never going to end.

It's just all terrible.

Donk · 08/01/2009 20:58

I know I linked to this before - but it seems so relevant.A Jew's prayer for the children of Gaza (Haaretz)

Heathcliffscathy · 08/01/2009 21:43

you know i don't remember the last time i ever cried over something in the news (call me callous).

i'm weeping over those children standing by their mothers' bodies.

there is something so serious about the red cross commenting, given the awfulness of what they see, for them to see fit to condemn this means it must some of the worst that they have witnessed.

and so the holocaust comes round. in my work i know very well that the most abused people can end up the most abusive. the fear and hatred and normalisation of horror results in atrocity and hatred and the abused becomes the abuser and so it goes round until someone says enough. until someone says, no i won't do this anymore.

I am not in any way anti Isarael. In fact this all makes me weep for Israel that she should have come to this.

it is too awful for words.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/01/2009 21:50

rev, i know you have the best intentions. but there is nothing that can balance letting children starve next to their dead mothers. just like there is nothing that can balance what happened in the holocaust, what happened in rwanda.

The dehumanising of the 'other' in order to make them absolutely less than nothing means you can do this. human beings have been doing this forever and what makes me so sad is that this is the result (as I see it) of the holocaust. that much fear and loathing.

That's exactly how I feel Sophable.

tiredsville · 08/01/2009 22:16

Right I've had enough, I'm going on the demo Saturday, anyone else?

WinkyWinkola · 08/01/2009 22:19

I'm not going because it will end up a squabble between pro Hamas/Hezbollah supporters and Israeli supporters, as reported in the Evening Standard today. I'm not interested in that.

I think letters and emails to appropriate people will have more effect and resonance than public spats which is what will happen and more violence will be the result.

KayHarkerREFUSESTOSimper · 08/01/2009 23:01

Part of me would love to, I'm angry enough. But I can't walk side by side with banners and chants that I abhor. Letters will have to do, sadly. Can't see it doing much more good than marching, either.

slim22 · 09/01/2009 00:05

over 700 dead. 1/3 are children.
That story is heartbreaking.
