If anyone is intersted.

It's at 12.30pm along Embankment, nearest tubes Embankment and Charing Cross.

It's being organised by Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coaltion and numerous other groups.

I will bump this sporadically, but if anyone else would like to help promote this, plaese bump too.

I will be there.

that link doesn't seem to be working rev - are you referring to Tom Hurndall? There is a very good film about him which was on channel 4 a while back. According to his father the Israeli army did everything they could to obstruct the inquiry.
Gotta go, catch up later.

when - if ever - are foreign journalists going to be allowed into Gaza I wonder. And how many more terrible abuses of civilan human right would be uncovered if they were?

Israel isn't a rogue state Pan. Far from it.

Monkeytrousers · 09/01/2009 16:42

And sorry, but Lisa isn't spouting ignorant nonsense - she might have a different perspective on things, but it's no less ignorant than those calling her ignorant. We're all ignorant. If we were anything but ignorant on this, we'd be getting paid for it.

Someone on the thread has been an official peace broker between the Israeli government and Hamas?

Donk · 09/01/2009 21:20

MT, come on, that is not what Rev was saying... I believe that she was referring to the fact that she was working in the region as a journalist, which surely requires a good knowledge of the issues and background. (At least if you want to do a good job, which I'm sure she did)

Monkeytrousers · 10/01/2009 17:56

Erm, it was a question Donk. Not an accusation. Note the question mark.

And with respect, I don't think working in the region helps particularly actually. It helps understand the humanitarian crisis, yes, but towards a political agreement, no.

Evberyone knows there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Blaming Israel and demanding they stop is not the answer however. Hamas is the one holding the key to end this. They who are just as responsible for the crisis of 'its' people, and it will get an awful lot worse if they have their way.

Nantucket · 10/01/2009 18:27

Saying hamas is just as responsible for the deaths of the 800 Palestinains this week, is akin to saying that a drunken women in a short skirt is resonsible for being raped.

This 'if you act like that we won't be responsible for our actions' is utter crap.'

They are dropping the bombs they are sending inthe tanks they are entirely responsible for every death that occurs from this.

and Hamas have only been on the scene with the Palestinians for the last 5 years or so (previously they were supported by Israel to create difficulties for fatah btw) and the Palestinians plight has been ongoing for 60 years not 5 years or the last 3 weeks.

Turning to hamas is a consequenec of what they have undergone.

Israel has enclosed over a milion refugees in a tiny peiece of land, made them prisoners there, kept them there for 60 years, maintained them in a state of poverty by making them dependent on Israel for everything and then withdrawing and limiting all resources, even the most basic when any dissent is shown, deny them many basic human rights, and then when they understandably try to resist the Israelis are not responsble for thier own actions???????????

WTF planet do you live on MT where this is in any way reasonable action of a state?

They are bombing refugees which they have imprisoned. (80% od gaza citizins are registered with the UN as refugess and Israel has built a wall around Gaza and they are not allowed to leave, so I think this is an accurate and not just emotive statement)and still poeple are reluctant to take sides???

What would Israel have to do for some oele to critise?? to condemn, to judge and stay stop??? What???

800 Plaestininas dead.
13 Israelis.

Without any background just the numbers scream unjustifiable massacre.

The denial that is going on by some of what is being dome to the Plaestinians, puts fear in my heart and makes me understand how people have stood by and watched atrocties happening, denied them even, or found some reasoning for them and turned away.

Soemtimes we have to recognise when huge injustices are being committed and stand up and stay stop.

Apartheid anyone? main huge sense to many white south africans.

This is like them bombing townships. Would you have sat on the fence then MT??

What if before the end of apartheid black south africans had killed 13 white South Africans, so the Governmebt bombed the townships killing 800+ Blacks, theratening to escalate and kill more (as they have today) would you have siad the black south Aftricans and the women and children in the townships who may have supported what they viewed as resistance, desereved it??
Thw white goverenemnet wouldn't have been responsible??

The fact this is being allowed to go on really frightens me, It seems humans can justify and rason anything, just as we have before.

Sunshinesmith · 10/01/2009 18:30

Excellent article by Naomi Klein

just got back from the marh. truly jolly until it hit the embassy. Shame the mainstream media just focuses on the violence at the end of the demo by thugs!

georgiemum · 10/01/2009 18:33

So Isreal have now dropped leaflets in Gaza warning residents that they are about to 'escalate bombings' (BBC news).

God help them. Are they trying to kill them all?

Nantucket · 10/01/2009 18:38

What are they supposed to do when told the escalation is coming? there is no where to go.

Sunshine the BBC reported that the march was almost entirely peaceful and only a minority became violent. I thought they reproetd quite positively actually.

TBH after this weeks events there was bound to be some trouble when people saw the Israeli embassy. Emotions are running so high.

Alot of eople ther though I think the BBC estimated 20,000

Donk · 10/01/2009 18:57

BBC days upto 50,000 people although the Metropolitan Police are saying 12,000

Nantucket · 10/01/2009 19:06

from the report on the march on the BBC website:

'BBC correspondent Robert Hall said given the number of people involved, the protest had been peaceful.

"But as darkness fell a small number of people, several hundred, have begun confronting police and missiles have been thrown," he said.

"Although these are ugly and unwelcome scenes, they do not represent what has happened for most of the afternoon."

Seems fair reporting to me.

Well dome for standing up and being counted today sunshine.

Good to see Board of British Jews are marching for peace tomorrow also.

tiredsville · 10/01/2009 19:40

Hi Sunshine, I just got back from demo also.
It was pretty peaceful considering the otracities commited this week.
On the way home, my mum, knowing what the media is like said "they will probably report 'today five people demonstated against attacks on Gazza "
Really pleased the Board of British Jews are marching tomorrow.
