If anyone is intersted.

It's at 12.30pm along Embankment, nearest tubes Embankment and Charing Cross.

It's being organised by Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coaltion and numerous other groups.

I will bump this sporadically, but if anyone else would like to help promote this, plaese bump too.

I will be there.

I'm not getting heated at all, see my post on the other thread. I had two glasses of very good Bordeaux and I'm starting to have a good laugh now

scaryteacher · 08/01/2009 14:17

That will be a major sticking point. Perhaps it needs to become like the Vatican - a state within a state that is, not Christian - protected in this case by the UN.

lisalisa · 08/01/2009 14:18

Yes donnie I do.

And piffle - rights to Jeruslame is fine. Why not?

slim22 · 08/01/2009 14:20

Oh no offence caused at all.

I have no faith but I have studied the scriptures. Mine, yours.
Only I do not believe in any Law other that the ones established by a group, in a particular time, in a particular place for a particular purpose. That's a constitution and civil laws in my book.

Koran and Bible are obsolete as normative instruments.

donnie · 08/01/2009 14:22

well in that case good for you. Astoundingly, you have said something I actually agree with.

lisalisa · 08/01/2009 14:27

Slim22 - what do you mean by that ? That you believe and subscribe to and hold by only the laws of the country where you live? What about the 3rd Reich? Surely you can't automatically hold by a constitution and laws just because they are made by a group or country at that time wihtout any independent reference point as to whether they are right or wrong?

slim22 · 08/01/2009 14:31

You are tiresome Lisa.
Still can't make up my mind on wether you are truly slow or just provocatively immature.
It's bed time here. Good night and Good luck to those of you listeners who can cope with this.

scaryteacher · 08/01/2009 14:33

Sweet dreams Slim - I hope you're not needing the bedsocks necessary where I am.

lisalisa · 08/01/2009 14:35

Slim - good night to you too. You can be very sure I am neither of those things. .

Donnie - you know why I agree? Because the Jews want peace that's why. And if you spoke to a range of Jewish people you would hear that message loud and clear. That's why we are prepared to compromise and that is why we will come to the negotiating table and listen. For the sake of peace.

I understand where your sentiments lie. And that you are entrenched in your views. If howecver you can set them aside for just one small moment and open the door, can you truly say that in your meetings and marches and dealings with the palestinians you hear them echoing the same sentiments. That they want peace and are willling to compromise and trade concessions for it?

When i spoke yesterday about the best and worst case outcome I meant that both sides must have acceptable fall back posiitons in negotiations and that neither side must come agreeing to accept only their optimal position.

slim22 · 08/01/2009 14:37

scary don't want to sound anoying bit it's about 30 degrees here. And yes it IS celsius.

slim22 · 08/01/2009 14:38

Ok Lisa.
I was a right B tonight. All for arguments' sake and al right?
Night night.

AntiqueIceCream · 08/01/2009 14:40

Lisa, which ever view of history you take (and I have read history reporetd from both sides and belive in no essential 'truth')they certainly did not leave just because' they didn't like living there'(ffs) they left, in fear, (of what we can argue), in the hope of returning but have nver been allowed to do so.

This post however by you 'I also think a 2 state solution is perfect. I am in favour of giving the palestinians pertty much what they want - land , anything. Of course they would have their own government and army etc - i am tallkng compelte and total independence like britain and france. Isarel does not want to be in charge of this problem. At least then - and at the very very leastr - if 20 yrs in future Israel is bombed by Palestine ( the separate independent country) israel could respnd to defend hereself much the same way she would and could if those bombs came from say syrain army or iranian army.'

I can pretty much entirely argree with, (apart from your cynical view that at least this will give Israel justifcction for more bombing, nice.) but I do agree that in these circumstances you outline, if a Palestinian state which had been given internationally recognised justice, continued to attack Israel then Israel would have right on it's side in self defence, unlike now.

I also think scaryteacher has a good idea regarding Jeruslem. Do we all go around and around in circles arguing whilst actually all agreeing on the solution??

lisalisa · 08/01/2009 14:40

No worries Slim22. Sleep well. I am envious though - 30C Celsius I would swap for minus 7 any day!

scaryteacher · 08/01/2009 14:47

30c too hot for me, but about 45 degrees warmer than here the other day and 38 degrees hotter than it is due to be tonight (again).

scaryteacher · 08/01/2009 14:52

Ice cream (antique sounds too rude), that idea came out of discussions with a group of year 8s during an assessment set about Jerusalem.

It would acknowledge the importance of Jerusalem for the three religions involved and hopefully freedom to worship / make a pilgrimage in (comparative) safety.

You can call me antique.

Well there is our answer, ask year 8's.

I agree with Rev. Alawys. On everything.

Their answers were for the most part constructive and well thought out. Out of the mouths I suppose.

spicemonster · 08/01/2009 15:15

From the BBC (do not read if of a sensitive disposition):

The International Committee of the Red Cross accused Israel of failing in its international obligations after its staff were met with "shocking" scenes.

One medical team found 12 bodies in a shelled house, and alongside them four very young children, too weak to stand, waiting by their dead mothers, the ICRC said.

Aid workers had been denied access to the site for days, it added.

"This is a shocking incident," Pierre Wettach, ICRC head for Israel and the Palestinian territories said in a statement.

"The Israeli military must have been aware of the situation but did not assist the wounded. Neither did they make it possible for us or the Palestinian Red Crescent to assist the wounded."

Do you think that's acceptable lisalisa? Do you really?

ruty · 08/01/2009 15:59

link to other thread? Can't find it.

Piffle · 08/01/2009 16:23

According to lie sky news the UN have suspend relief ops in gaza due to the danger from Israeli forces.
If this is true it's truly catastrophic for the gazan people.
