Is this true? because the Daily Mail reported it so obviously I need something more reliable than that

Last year Guardian reported 'there were no plans' for a state funeral.

Anyone heard this from anywhere other than the DM?

Poor old Maggie?!! Fuckin' hell.

As the venerable bead Saint Elvis of Costello would say 'That's when they finally put you in the ground
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down' Top bloke is Elvis.

I agree with swc - for supposedly intelligent women some of you really let yourselves down on these threads. It's really quite pathetic.

Ohh time to pull out the 'supposedly intelligent' line. Things are getting serious.

There have been many threads where I have let myself down.
This definitely isn't one of them.

cheesesarnie, I am discussing the DM article - as in they like a juicy headline and yet she isn't even dead - not nice! I'm no big MT fan but still....

Oh puhleese. Do you think Maggie will shed a decent human tear when Arthur Scargill dies? Just because he's another human being? Or will she raise a glass of sherry and cheer a little?

Millions of us have the right, not being part of her family and all, to rejoice a little. If you don't understand why she was hated, that's your lookout.

Oh swc, don't be so transparent. Just own up (again) that you just disagree with us because you're a Tory. It's got fuck all to do with 'debate' and everything to do with the fact that you don't agree with us.

Get over it.

Heaven help us, SWC, the only cliche you haven't included in there is the the Britain was the sick man one. And you think lefties are predicatable.

I thought Arthur Scargill was dead!

I found myself agreeing with John Major this morning on the Andrew Marr programme & thinking he seems like a decent chap...been perturbed by this all day.

Oh how patronising, swc. Do you think 'lefties' as you call us are any different?

what smallwhitecat said.

Most of the stuff that happened under thatcher was just part of a trend that's been going on since the post war concensus broke up at the end of the 70s.

a large part of why unemployment was so high was beccause the wartime generation (depleted) was going off the job market just as the mini baby boomers were coming on (more people in, fewer people out, geddit?)
I cant believe that people are still sobbing intheir teacups about unprofitable manufacturing and mining industries going.

there are a lot of things SERIOUSLY wrong with britain. MT didn't cahnge any of them - she just did as she was told by the establishment, just like every other british prime minister.
