Why didn't the Allies bomb Auschwitz

Just read this link

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4175045.stm

It's all very well asking now - "should we have bombed it" - but then what would we be saying if we HAD - it would probably be something along the lines - of "OMG look how many innocent Jews we killed trying to 'save' them".

What about those Jews who survived, and have gone to on to get married and have children, or those that survived and were reunited with family members?? How would the families feel now if we'd bombed them?? I don't think it would have helped bombing them - the Nazi's would only have found somewhere/somehow else to persecute the Jews.

Opinions please (nice controversial one for a Sunday afternoon ;-)

You complete weirdo. You have "already" done a search on me have you. How very very sad!

louise1974 · 01/02/2005 17:01

Not you Not quite cockney.

Gwenick · 01/02/2005 17:01

lou - I was hoping after apologising that EVERYONE could move on - unfortunately I got back to find that personal remarks about me where still continuing.

I would quite happily move onto other things now - but I'm afraid I DO object to be called ignorant, thick and other such insults.

OP posts:
lou33 · 01/02/2005 17:05

Am sure name calling on here will not gain anyone anything but a reputation for not being able to argue a point. Please everyone, can you get back to the points in hand, and have a discussion, not a slanging match. Maybe have a look at the mumsnet philosophy?

Gwenick · 01/02/2005 17:06

actually NQC - MUD did say earlier that she didn't think I WAS racist, but that my comments COULD have been seen as being racist - so yes we did actually resolve something

Louise - why is doing a search on someone wierd??? That's what's its there for - for searching! Also you may not that MUD - who was the one who FIRST accused me of being racist is no longer posting on here. Of COURSE I'm going to respond if I go out and come back and find more negative things written about me - I'm only human after all!

I'm assuming since you and Charlize seem to have such a keen interest you would have looked for the 'other' thread mentioned and would see that I'd also agree to move on on there too.

louise1974 · 01/02/2005 17:13

Well don't assume Gwenick. Also you might find it easier to get your point across without offending if you don't load your posts with sarcasm and irony.

lou33 · 01/02/2005 17:15

are you all calming down a bit now? Deep breathing and all that? I don't like netters getting angry with each other

louise1974 · 01/02/2005 17:16

Also, I thought the search thing was there to look up interesting topics, NOT to spy on another member ans see when she joined and what topics she has posted on. THat is a bit too weird and stalkerish for me.

louise1974 · 01/02/2005 17:16

Sorry Lou! Iam going to move away from this now. any how.

Gwenick · 01/02/2005 17:17

louise - I hardly think having a look to see what other topics a person has posted on is spying!!! there's a box to loook for 'nicknames' as well as 'topics' in the search boxes!

I've never known someone be so suspicious about another user using the search facility!

OP posts:
lou33 · 01/02/2005 17:21

Search is used for a number of things, lots of netters search by name, some use thread titles, others use it to find out how many posts they have made themselves. Really don't think there is anything to gain by calling people weird, stalkers, racist, and all the other comments that have been posted of a similar ilk. All it will do is continue to provide reasons for an argument and not a debate. Can i suggest that if this thread is getting too heated for anyone, then they might just take some time out from it for a bit before posting any replies, and maybe this thread can get back on track to a debate instead of a slanging match ( and i own't have to go through the hassle of changing my name to moderatorlou33)

louise1974 · 01/02/2005 17:24

Sorry, can't let that one go. What exactly where your motives for doing a search on me, gwenick.
Because I imagine they were not friendly reasons.
That is what I find weird.
What did you think or want to find out about me?
Its a bit scary to be honest. You could be any nutter!

louise1974 · 01/02/2005 17:26

Lou you posted before me. But to honest as I said below What did she want to find on that search? I really am leaving this thread now as its all a bit too weird

StealthMouse · 01/02/2005 17:26

oh FGS, I've been ducking in and out of this all day watching you 3(?) squabble. Please leave it foor tonight and come back and read it in the morning - I'm not saying anybody is right or wrong but you should hear what you sound like in 3rd person!!

Gwenick · 01/02/2005 17:27

Louise - CAT me (or CAT Lou33 or another Mod) if want to continue this further. Lou has kindly requested we no longer continue along this line and I would like to respect that.

But FYI I've search on most of the people with whom I've had debates - and I'm sure I'm not the only person.

OP posts:
lou33 · 01/02/2005 17:27

that is the risk you take when you use the www louise, it is a public place. Don't think it is that odd. If you want to know a bit more about the opinions other members have you go and search their name and read a few threads.

I wouldn't read anything into it.

lowcalCOD · 01/02/2005 17:30

oh yes chill

crunchie · 01/02/2005 17:42

Well girls this has been fun reading!!

Unfortuneatly sarcasm doesn't write well, nor does irony. You never know what tone of voice the other person is using, smilies sometimes soften the remark, but I think most arguments on MN have been from precieved slights which were more throwaway sarky asides

Overall I can see both sides of this argument and although I agree with the point gwenick was originally trying to make, I can also see that others have been offended by it and apologies have been made all round. What I don't understand is how things degenerate so quickly, I really wish PERSONAL attacks were kept to a minimum, from both sides.

I often use the search facility to see what other threads 'friends' are on, and also if I am having a good debate with someone, I try to get to 'know' them by looking at an overall picture.

I mean take coddy she is one barking fish. Motherinferior is somewho makes me laugh so I follow her around (OH GOD IT IS STALKING!!) And Lou33 I have 'met' in RL so I like to keep up with her news (sorry BTW had nothing to add to the other thread, but kept myself updated )

lowcalCOD · 01/02/2005 17:47

crunch! cod goes off to find out what threads you haev been on,,,,,,,,,

crunchie · 01/02/2005 17:50

I'm stalking gwenick

Gwenick · 01/02/2005 17:52

you dont' want to stalk me!! You might just find out I'm a boring housewife with too much time on her hands

OP posts:
crunchie · 01/02/2005 17:53

That interested me too Lisalisa as personally I don't necessarily agree with the state of Isreal in it's current situation (another discussion to have somewhere else as I probably don't understand all the facts), but I am not an orthodox jew - ultra or otherwise - I am Liberal. However I made the comment on the other thread that I wonder if it makes me an anti-semitic jew - or is that impossible?

On the other thread it was also said I would be a self-hating Jew - not that the writer thought I really was IYKWIM.

Personally I think ironic/sarcastic comments on here were taken out of context, however I know that the original anti-semitic/racist agrument has been resolved, and agreed upon.

Overall I do think there is far too much 'hidden' racism in this country, and personally since my background (rather than my looks) singles me out as 'different' I am hugely aware of this type of thing. At work it can be awful with my boss using all the classics 'some of my best friends are black, so I can't be a racist', whilst at the same time ranting about immigration, paki shops, and jew boys (but he can't be anti-semitic as he is jewish - a grandfather or distant relative was so he says he is!!!). The ammount of times it has been really offensive to me is amazing, and I do have a go every so often, but he really cannot see he is in any way racist. I gave up after one recent argument about it. Someone said if they went into a bar and saw a black guy at teh bar, they would think 'oh look there's a black guy at the bar', personally I said I would think 'Oh look there is a guy at the bar'. They all didn't believe me and said that their attitude wasn't racist, until I asked them how close they would stand to that person, and if they would stand closer if it were a white guy. That really shut them up!!
