I believe the handling of the mid-July Harehills riot played a part in the protests following the Southport incident.

Police reported two days ago that 27 people have already been arrested from the Harehills incident. In what way is that two-tier?

As ever, context is key:
https://www.lawgazette.co.uk/law/sharia-laws-appeal-to-muslims-is-diminishing-poll-suggests/5059062.article

But your post is so full of inaccuracies that the nuances of the article will be beyond you. Let's say you're right for argument's sake about 'immigrants arriving thick and fast'.....how long will it take them to become British citizens and be able to 'vote in new laws around their belief system and not ours'?

From HMG website: you can apply for citizenship if you've lived in the UK for 5 years and have had one of the following for 12 months: indefinite leave to remain in the UK. 'settled status' (also known as 'indefinite leave to remain under the EU Settlement Scheme')

But hey, why let facts get in the way of racist nonsense. You out rioting tonight, 'talking action' as you call it......did you 'take action' by trying to burn asylum seekers alive in hostels, or by burning books in a library? Is that the action you want?

Because they took hours to arrive and simply arrested after the event.

Muslim community* not race! I apologize.

But many of the arrests from the last few days have happened after the event too, as police are trawling footage to identify people.

Islam is not a race, it’s a belief system.

Yes but the police were in attendance.

KS so far silent but Jess Philips has posted "Have spoken to police and pub staff at sites of violence tonight, pub has been visited by lots of lovely community sending solidarity and are locking up for the night now as usual."

She also reposted "Spent a few hours this evening in Bordesley Green where a tense but good natured gathering of about 300 people, mostly young men but including elders and a few women, came out to show their opposition to a rumoured far right march. Circling the road island outside McDs…/1"

she earlier posted [about the Sky reporter] "These people came to this location because it has been spread that racists were coming to attack them. This misinformation was spread entirely to create this content. Don't spread it MR Tice!"

When asked "Do you think that gives them a right to assemble on the street all tooled up?"
She responded "Nope and anyone committing criminality should face the law, but it's important that the facts of why people are congregating. And how it is done on purpose in order to keep driving this dissent, to create content. It's very organised and very ugly."

So I'm sure we all feel reassured that Labour will be treating this 'good natured gathering' the same as they are treating the 'far-right thugs'.

AconsonantpleaseCarol · 06/08/2024 00:40

Maybe they’d quite like a bit of Sharia Law after all…?

No idea if you are trying to be funny but as a woman that literally turns my stomach. I wouldn't dream of even visiting in a country where sharia law exists. It is sickening. Nothing about sharia law is remotely amusing.

It reminds me did me of the troubles in the 1970s in Northern Ireland . It would not support me if in ten years time we are going to see segregated communities if we carry on like this .

I am taking my DD back to Liverpool for tomorrow. She rents a house in a run down studenty part of the city. I admit I am quite worried.

What’s wrong with that? In order to qualify for a student visa and to be allowed to bring a family the person would need to demonstrate they can support both themselves and their family financially, and be enrolled on specific courses that make them eligible. If people are coming here to get PhDs or train as doctors and dentists, surely it’s in our interest for them to stay?

Funny that because earlier 2 tier Keir said that motive was irrelevant…

you wont have been denied, this will be user error.

I mean that for about 10 minutes I could search and access many sites that I normally access but there was an error and no return when I searched for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter but all other sites fine. It is now working again. It was not a user error on my part...

But there isn’t a single interpretation of women’s rights under Sharia Law as far as I can work out - there are liberal factions and fundamentalist factions. So for it to be implemented here you’d have to get consensus (of the totalitarian kind, i.e the Taliban) and that’s highly unlikely to happen.

The Catholic Church doesn’t exactly have a great record on the rights of women and children either - and its influence has been utterly decimated in Ireland for example over the past 30 years. It doesn’t follow that the entire Muslim population of the UK would blindly back an attempt to implement Sharia Law here.

I also vaguely remember reading something about immigrants becoming more secular as the next generations are born but will need to do some digging to find where I got that from.

So all search engines failed to give results only for social media? As I said user error, that is not something that is happening, post up the screenshots.

It will happen, city’s will become migrant only communities and whites everywhere else. It’s slowly happening now ( faster in some places )

Oh, I think you must have misunderstood; she seems very clear that "it's important that the facts of why people are congregating" [sic]. I'm very much looking forward to hearing her listen to the 'far right thugs' and sympathetically explore their reasons for congregating...

Parts of Islam are deeply problematic, not least the views expressed by the Quran about Jews, Christian, gays etc etc.

I'm a white British female, and am lucky enough to have only been sexually abused by white British men from the age of 14. I find parts of maleness deeply problematic, not least the views expressed blah blah...

That's a bit terrifying - I saw it on Twitter ages ago and the 'free palestine' was very clear. Then there was lot of swearing - maybe they accidentally cut out the statement when clearing up the f-words? They didn't overlap though... (Still available on Twitter)

Hope people are starting to enjoy this 1984 government they voted for.

Not impossible they’ve been meddling with social media. I’ve experienced similar problems in China with the Great (fire)Wall there. Wouldn’t shock me if this lot have started interfering with personal freedoms in similar ways. Didn’t Starmer just threaten as much? Judging by recent comments on here, media audio is being edited to suit their narrative, which is nice.
