It is with some trepidation that we are restoring this thread.
We have removed several posts, and would ask for your help if you feel that we have missed any on a long thread.
We appreciate the robust debate and diverse perspectives shared in this thread and we know that these issues are an important and complex topic for many MNers.
We ask that you show respect for your fellow MNers, even if you strongly disagree with their point of view. Personal attacks, insults, and derogatory comments will not be tolerated.
While, on the whole, we think it’s fine to critique ideas, beliefs, and practices - there is nothing to be gained by stereotyping, generalising or making blanket statements about any religion or its members. In our experience, points made with supporting evidence and with reasoned arguments do far more to ensure the discussion is constructive and useful.
Posts that promote hatred, violence, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on religion, race, or any other identity will be removed, and repeat offenders will be banned. We have zero-tolerance for hate speech on Mumsnet - please report anything like this if you spot it on the boards.
We want to be a place where people with differing opinions can rub along with tolerance and forbearance - quite simply, how else are we going to make the world a better place for our kids if we as adults can't model that behaviour - so to be clear we will take a firm line on posts that we just think could have been worded that in a less inflammatory manner.
Let's give this thread another shot, then. Peace and love, as OliviaMN used to say. x
