@Easterissland

Thanks. Is this really controversial? Seriously? This really doesn't just apply to Bristol. I also regularly visit Manchester and London, and no-one dresses like this anywhere I go. It's a uniform of certain people in certain areas that's nothing to do with poverty, race or class but a mindset.

It's people, usually men, who want to look hard. He looks rough/thuggish. A white guy in those clothes would also look rough/thuggish. They want to look intimidating. I used to live in Clifton and he would look very out of place.

I feel for the taxi driver.

It's inconvenient for anyone if their car is impounded by the police. But for the driver, it's also their livelihood.

Plus a horrible thing to have been caught up in.

Yes, if he was just randomly booked and had to carry that dreadful cargo - what a horrible shock.

Possibly it was the Taxi Driver who noticed a mess in his vehicle - after all, taxi drivers are naturally wary about any mess, smell or damage to their car -eg {quite rightly} people vomiting, or spilling food or whatever.

A gruesome set of suitcases surely wouldn't have gone un-noticed, even under cover of darkness.

Many yrs ago there was a similar case in Richmond, London, where a murderous Maid killed a female householder, - she got a young man to help her throw it {The dismembered body in a case} into the Thames, where it was later found by Barnes Bridge.

The skull of the victim showed up in David Attenborough's garden relatively recently.

Most of the people who dress in this particular uniform are indeed white. Often known as 'chavs', like Jay Slater, referring to a underclass, criminal, violent mindset, but this term is not allowed on Mumsnet.

I agree, but many people in Bristol are really angry that a criminal like Jay Slater gets all the publicity while few of you outside of Bristol have heard of Jack O'Sullivan.

Sorry this is a genuine question but when you say "a criminal like Jay Slater"... what do you mean? I've clearly missed something somewhere!

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 23:32

Thanks.

He was part of a gang that attacked a fellow teenager with a machete and an axe, then laughed about it in court.

You been under a rock? I'm not putting it on here but it's very well publicised whereas Jack has had minimal media coverage until very recently

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 23:45

@soundsys

Being part of a gang who split the skull of another young man with learning difficulties with a golf club and a machete. Only got community service.

Reportedly stole a £12k Rolex in Tenerife, although this could be a euphemism for ecstasy or cocaine. Went to stay in Masca with a man who was sentenced for a plot to flood Wales with Class A.

Associate of drug dealers, thieves and violent criminals in both Lancashire and Tenerife.

Trouble about family's go fund me which enabled family members to go on holiday to Tenerife; rumour has it that £30k is to cover ransom for kidnap due to losing bag of drugs at the rave.

It's all over social media and was on here before it got taken down

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 23:09

@infor

Sorry, what are you saying? That people who complained about Colston don't care about modern slavery? I think you'll find that that's incorrect. I'm not even from Bristol, although I've lived here for 28 years. What I do know about is the local area.

What has any of this got to do with body parts dumped on the Suspension Bridge or Jack O' Sullivan?

What I was saying is that Bristol seems to have gone a long way downhill, which sadly makes bodies in suitcases and missing persons increasingly likely.

placemats · 12/07/2024 00:22

The so called 'criminal dressed like a gangster' 😎 and incredibly stupid could well have been forced to take the suitcases to the bridge to deposit them because their family was in threat of being harmed - which explains the bizarre reason to leave the suitcases there. There'll be CCTV anyway to see if attempts were made to throw the suitcases over.

My immediate thought on hearing about the suitcases was that it was a bomb threat. It's a sinister finding and a family has lost a loved one/s.

Hope the man wanted for questioning is found soon.

That is utter bollocks. Rape and gang rape has gone up massively in the UK for example. In 2002/3 the number of rapes recorded in England Wales were 12295. In 2023 in was over 60,000.

Statistics are available here.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/283100/recorded-rape-offences-in-england-and-wales/

Certain men seem to think women are chattels that they can do whatever they wish with.

I did actually think when they said statistics are available but not giving any proof that they were talking shit.

I think it’s all the elements surrounding the Slater case that has increased the publicity. After a few days it came out that he was a criminal. Then the friends statements were odd.Added to which all the drug and drug dealing involvement.Papers play to people’s curiosity. One of those last with Slater was a English drug dealer who had not long been sentenced to 9 years for flooding Wales with drugs. Its all sounding very iffy and it’s not because people care about Slater that they are following.

I think this is very true...Salaciousness sells advertising space.
Clicks mean revenue.

Online, lots of comments I saw when the case first broke weren't supportive of Slater or his family.

Lavengro · 12/07/2024 02:16

I would be really surprised if the victim is Jack O'Sullivan. The police were very quick to say that, while they'd informed his family of developments, they saw no particular link between the two cases. I think they would be more circumspect if there was any possibility at all. To me that says that the person in the suitcase is not male, not white or not an adult. Or maybe that there's more than one victim.

It's really awful. I know there's always been crime and violence, but there does seem to be a kind of unravelling going on in society right now - a kind of toxic mess of anger, lawlessness and disregard for the value of life. I don't know if other people agree.

I was not talking shit. You can use google yourslves. Murders have reduced. Violent crime in general has reduced. Records of sexual crimes has increased, which even in the link this poster provided is attributed to more reporting, rather than more offending.
I'm going to call out racist xenophobic nonsense as wrong when I see it though.

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 12/07/2024 06:52

Why do people keep talking about “gangster” clothing? There are people in towns and cities across the UK wearing clothes like that.

To do something so risky and gruesome, I wonder whether this man will turn out to have had some sort of episode.

Did he ask the taxi to wait for him while he tried to dispose of the suitcases?

That man is dressed like a black man in any urban area.

It may be gang related, but to insist it is because of his clothing is.....

Gang murder victims don't usually end up in suitcases, the young perpetrators (victims themseleves)don't hide the bodies and end up in prison. The gangs are very happy to sacrifice them too.

I think this will turn out to be DV related.

There are a few posts with a whiff of racism on this thread.

To the person who said the man was dressed "like a gangster". Would you have thought that if he was white?

In what way is it racist. Yes I would think a white bloke dressed like that was also dressed like a gangster..

This is a man who has dumped a suitcase of human remains. People really aren’t judging him because of his race. Or are you suggesting no one would judge a white person dumping human remains? Give your head a wobble!

I agree with DV too, but I’ve read since 2 men were involved. Witnesses say 2 men, 1 black (pictured) 1 white were seen lugging 1 suitcase each across the road. Now 2 people are involved it’s made me wonder even more

Have you ever been to any of our cities? . 1000s of people dress like that.
