Manhunt ongoing.

A lot of bad news in the last couple of days.

I think that must be a still from the cyclist who chased him. Perhaps a go pro. Quick thinking from the cyclist if that is the case.

Yes, that makes sense.

It is a very low angle for a CCTV image.

I wondered if it was from one of the automated money collectors on the Clifton side- but a Cyclist's head or body cam seems far more likely.

Good on him or her.

RebelMoon · 11/07/2024 22:28

There are a few posts with a whiff of racism on this thread.

To the person who said the man was dressed "like a gangster". Would you have thought that if he was white?

Yes good call on the Go Pro thought. That photo is not taken right next to the bridge, it’s by a house, so most likely on the Leigh Woods side of the Bridge on Burwalls Road which is the way he is reported to have gone. There is a nature reserve area there which leads back down to the river/towpath which is probably where the cyclist lost him.

whathasitgottodowiththepriceofoliveoil · 11/07/2024 22:19

How local do you mean though? Yeah anyone local to the bridge or who has been to the bridge would be aware but not everyone in Bristol will have been there and the bloke got a taxi there so presumably he doesn't live in the immediate area.

The police have impounded the Taxi - and they will know where it was 'hailed' from.
The man was seen struggling with the suitcases, so perhaps hailed the taxi up to Clifton to save ''effort'' as they were heavy...I think there is a ''Taxi let down'' bay close to the bridge on each side.

Obviously he looked suspicious and drew attention to himself...Wasn't it football last night, so people would have been out and about celebrating.

Devonbabs · 11/07/2024 22:34

The police are saying they don’t think this man is a threat to the wider public, do they know something more they are divulging in order to reach that conclusion?

Aspierational · 11/07/2024 22:36

Hedgeoffressian · 11/07/2024 21:30

Goady in what sense? I have a 7 year old daughter and these statistics worry me. My comment has obviously irritated you for some reason. Why?

The population has increased hugely. There is bound to be more of everything.

Aspierational · 11/07/2024 22:38

There's a "secret" hut/cave/cabin thing in the woods over there - I'm sure the police know about it though!

@Garlicnaan

I agree, but many people in Bristol are really angry that a criminal like Jay Slater gets all the publicity while few of you outside of Bristol have heard of Jack O'Sullivan.

As an outsider, the people of Bristol seem to live in a world of their own. Colston (dead for three centuries) ended up in the harbour in 2020 following huge demonstrations.
In 2022, Maros Tancos, and Joanna Gomulska, were jailed for keeping 29 actual slaves and subjecting them to beatings and death threats. Saw not a peep from local people.
Thievery in Clifton in broad daylight went viral at the end of last year.

Do your police service do anything?

Unfortunately, this is the experience of a lot of women. It’s really tough. I suppose that men could make a stand by campaigning to educate other men and working towards eradicating violence against women. That would be more useful than getting defensive and spouting namalt. Show us the truth of namalt by taking action.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 22:54

@RebelMoon

Yes. This is nothing to do with racism and do not insinuate that it is. Black and white people from North Bristol do not dress like this.

By point 1. I assume you are taking about the immediate vicinity to the bridge? But Bristol is bigger than this particular part

Ah right thanks for the local info. Do people from South Bristol dress like that?

tobee · 11/07/2024 22:56

Slightly disingenuous @infor as the statue of Colston was a monument to the man and celebrating his life.

I don't agree with the protests and the throwing of it in the harbour personally.

It should have been dealt with differently.

Some gang teams do def dress similar to that.

unwashedanddazed · 11/07/2024 22:58

It's my understanding that the bridge is manned 24/7 because of jumpers. In one local report it stated that one of the witnesses reported the cases to bridge staff who then contacted the police.

Makes it an even weirder spot to do this.

It's just daft to paint ALL men with the same brush.
I've been abused as a child by a man, been hit by one when defending a female friend {He broke his hand hitting my head} - but I know that not all men are nasty, any more than all women are sweetness and light.
I only see the hatred for ALL men on Mumsnet - nowhere else.

One cannot condemn half the population of the world because some are vile.
But--as they also say on MN ''You do you'' {Do you hate your sons?}

NoDishiRishi · 11/07/2024 23:07

It's not the first weirdness there - one of the Marconi deaths was a jumper from the bridge, found with his trousers round his ankles and puncture mark on his buttocks and ruled an open verdict.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 23:09

@infor

Sorry, what are you saying? That people who complained about Colston don't care about modern slavery? I think you'll find that that's incorrect. I'm not even from Bristol, although I've lived here for 28 years. What I do know about is the local area.

What has any of this got to do with body parts dumped on the Suspension Bridge or Jack O' Sullivan?

Instead of bringing 'racism ' into the thread, why not ask the poster what they meant by 'dressed like a gangster' ?. Maybe 'gangsters' that they are aware of dress like this, but are in fact white? Stop creating an issue where there isn't one.

They don't spot everything {Even in Daylight!}
I was walking alone across the Bridge to the Ashton Court festival to meet friends there - approaching the Leigh Woods side, I saw a young woman leaning over the parapet obviously upset.
I asked her if she was ok..and she said ''My Boyfriend'' and pointed.

Her Boyfriend was out of it, and was on the bridge side, his feet on a very narrow ledge.

He was picking out bits of mortar and throwing them onto the treetops below.

I thought ''SURELY one of the manned booths will spot this and help- but the didn't.

I saw a group of three young strong looking men coming along the footway and asked if they could help.

They thought I was ''pissing about''0 but I said ''I promise I'm not''...and they came to help.

Between them they grabbed hold of his hoodie and hauled him over - one of them said ''Don't be such a wanker, mate'' to him.

The girlfriend was very grateful, as was I.
Those three young men saved the life of that drunk /stoned teen.

GF said they'd had an argument, and he'd climbed over.
It made my head spin to see him there.

WHY the CCTV didn't pick this up is astonishing maybe as it was a festival day and there was lots of foot traffic on the bridge that weekend.

TakeOnFlea · 11/07/2024 23:21

Maybe just say the lads name instead of all the initials. Obviously it's not Jay Slater.

Jacks family want his name and face out there so they can hopefully find him.

Sad for whoever is in that case but this criminal is clearly as thick as two short planks so will be caught and convicted

I feel for the taxi driver.

It's inconvenient for anyone if their car is impounded by the police. But for the driver, it's also their livelihood.

Plus a horrible thing to have been caught up in.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 23:22

@Easterissland

Thanks. Is this really controversial? Seriously? This really doesn't just apply to Bristol. I also regularly visit Manchester and London, and no-one dresses like this anywhere I go. It's a uniform of certain people in certain areas that's nothing to do with poverty, race or class but a mindset.
