The whole thing is hideous. Given the clarity of the CCTV images I'm not surprised he's been identified and arrested so quickly. Certainly looks to be no criminal mastermind.

Choux · 13/07/2024 12:48

And he's wearing the same jacket in the bridge photo as in the pub lunch photo which must have been taken from social media. Definitely not a criminal mastermind. I expect this was not a planned murder.

The pub photo is from the Crown and Anchor in Chiswick which is not far from Shepherd's bush. I think the shepherds bush address is the suspect's home. There is still confusion over the arrested man being 34 but Yostin Andres Mosquera is 24. Brothers?

CharlotteLightandDark · 13/07/2024 12:54

I feel he might have been threatened/coerced into it. Maybe a human trafficking operation or similar. Definitely doesn’t appear to be a seasoned professional criminal. Hope he’s got access to legal counsel anyway.

Gosh...that was one of my local pubs! I lived in Chiswick about a quarter of a mile from the beginning of Shepherd's Bush.

I wonder if there's any chance 24 is an error/typo that got out. He looks more like he is 34 in some pictures. Most single people houseshare in London...if he IS 24 maybe he lives with colleagues, friends or family as you say.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/07/2024 12:56

The Met arrest report linked to states "correct age" a couple of times. I wonder if the initial police report about who they were looking for wrongly had him as 24?

What exactly has gone on will come out soon enough.

perhaps he felt the train was less conspicuous than a coach/bus

Edited

They are all CCTV’d to the max so no hope of not being detected there.

Colombian equals Colombian drug gangs surely 🤷🏼‍♀️
Perhaps this man had very little education and didn't realize that what goes unnoticed in Colombia (because of the level of corruption) would attract enormous amounts of attention in the UK?

TrivialProblem · 13/07/2024 13:09

Police have confirmed his age

Yeah, he must be a thick Colombian involved in drugs...Give your head a wobble. I have a Colombian colleague. Not dim and not involved with drugs.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/07/2024 13:11

I've just seen a BBC report where a guy who saw the suspect with the suitcases, which were obviously heavy, quipped, "what you've got in there, bodies?"

No, of course it doesn't. There are millions of Colombians with no connection to drugs whatsoever.

It's the murder and the attempted disposal of body parts in suitcases that suggests gang or OCG (either of which could have drugs links), not nationality.

I suppose the possibility remains that he was acting under duress when he travelled in the attempt to conceal the body parts. But the police seem pretty sure that they are not looking for anyone else (though I suppose that could change, depending on what he tells them when interviewed)

I don't disagree @RoseAndRose , but you've got to wonder about the colombians that have body parts in a suitcase . . . don't you?

Biggleslefae · 13/07/2024 13:17

Give your head a wobble
thanks for the suggestion@NigelHarmansNewWife 😊👍🏻but if it's all the same to you I'll stick to a strong coffee☕
(Feel free to wobble your own head as much as you like, if that's your thing☝🏻😁)

WomenStuff · 13/07/2024 13:19

He looks lovely in the pub picture!

Of course people are going to assume drugs given the murders. I wonder if this guy was set up though. Gangs are structured in such a way that the top people don't need to get their hands dirty.

Anyone at all interested, I massively recommend reading Drug Wars by Neil Woods, an ex copper. You'll be shocked at the levels of corruption in UK police.

Two male bodies in suitcases makes me think of gangs or drugs.

Two male bodies in suitcases and a Colombian suspect makes me think more of drugs than gangs.

oakleaffy · 13/07/2024 13:20

Colombia is to cocaine and coffee as England is to Beefeaters and Drunks on holiday.
Just stereotypes.

WomenStuff · 13/07/2024 13:20

The two people the eyewitness saw helping with the suitcases, are they unconnected?

Drugs and gangs are inextricably linked and will be so long as drugs remain illegal.

I'd wonder about anyone of any nationality who did that

Which is why I've been speculating on gang/OCG links throughout this thread (including before anything was known about his nationality)

CorvusPurpureus · 13/07/2024 13:44

I wonder if the suitcase bits were the identifiable parts ie heads & hands.

The plan could've been to dump them in the river whilst disposing of the non identifiable parts at the Shepherd's Bush location, if that's where the killings took place.

Sorry, gross, but if there were two perpetrators involved you can imagine them deciding to confuse the evidence.

Other body parts quietly disposed of around London & unidentifiable. If found, could be any missing person.

Skulls/fingerprints - if ever found - eventually fished out of the river, leading investigation, after identification from dental records, to focus on Bristol.

It was a woman who made that joke.

I'm surprised he is only 24, I thought the man in the photo looks much older.

Good age-detector.

oakleaffy · 13/07/2024 14:07

I too thought he looked more like mid 30’s
