I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

Yes. It’s not like it hasn’t happened before.

I'll wait while you find an example where they've had to pay out for wrongly alleging a man is a rapist in this kind of expose....

FuckingHellAdele · 16/09/2023 17:39

Sadly there are legions of short sighted, blancmange-brained fangirls and fanguys, who read his Booky Wook, lap up his anti MSM shite, and think he's cute now he's no longer a bit of a lad, and loves his wife and kids who will defend his abuses and keep watching.

Ellmau · 16/09/2023 17:39

Apparently it’s an expose on a number of comedians, Russell Brand being one of them.

The Times story is just on Brand.

Reported. This is unworthy of a website for women or indeed for anyone. Shameful.

Ap24 · 16/09/2023 17:40

I normally enjoy dispatches but I doubt I will watch tonight. It's a shame because when I saw it was a 90 minute special I had high hopes. None of what I have read so far shocks me and we all know the media has covered for certain slebs and high profile individuals over the years.

Men up and down the country do similar everyday. As someone who has been raped, sexually assaulted and violently assaulted by men I wish there was more of a spotlight on the prevalence of this. I just feel the emphasis ends ups on the individual celebrities rather than the real issues.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 16/09/2023 17:40

There is no apology for rape. I. Sorry I've Atwater. Thread now being inhabited by dicks . So sorry .

Well, if he was off his head on drugs,.his assumed consensual sex, may not have been for the women involved.

Well maybe watch what the programme has to show and see?

If there are allegations of rape and sexual abuse, I think the alleged victims have a right to be at least heard before anyone goes 'oh this old hat again yada yada'

Yes if there are victims of SA they have a right to be heard.

By the police and then courts and a jury.

It's not right or fair to have trial by SM when we know people will then accuse him of being guilty of a crime he's not proven to have committed.

If he's guilty he needs to be found so through a court of law.

Hibernatalie · 16/09/2023 17:41

His comments on IG are flooded with Andrew Tate fans backing him up. Also people actually believing it's the media trying to silence him - the ego of the man to think he is worth silencing.

wonderstuff · 16/09/2023 17:42

The Times story is very grim reading. I knew he was a bit of a knob, but grooming 16 year olds and raping women, really awful. A stand out for me was a meeting where C4 wanted to hire him, but knew he was problematic, so proposed an all male crew for the show. Bit Talibanesque that.

You set the tone.

Your OP clearly states support for Brand despite not knowing all the facts. You hardly started this thread off without bias.

sodthesodoff · 16/09/2023 17:43

Jesus wept what the fuck is this thread.

I sadly don't need to read the articles to know what a dick he is

I blame the execs who knowingly sat back and watched.

If they knew , they should have been doing something not hiring him !

This is honestly one of the worst thing I have ever read on MN. A child is raped, other women are raped, sexually assaulted, threatened with being shared with other men.

And your response is 'it needs context of his fame, his lifestyle and the other world that was the 00s'?!

Gowlett · 16/09/2023 17:44

From what I’ve read of his dad… Yes, there’s lots of dodgy men around. Not just famous ones. And now this Andrew Tate crap…

TheBarbieEffect · 16/09/2023 17:44

I don’t buy it. It’s all very “15 minutes of fame” and he’s an easy target.

I bet they are. Like a lot of people on this thread, they probably haven’t read the article in The Times.

It’s over for him now. He won’t be able to come back from this.

Because the courts have such a great track record for providing justice for victims of SA and rape. Some of the accusations were legal, just not moral.

Islandsadness · 16/09/2023 17:45

@sleepyscientist you think a child who gets raped is a case of "just because you regret it now doesn't make it rape especially when it was a different time"?

Why? Actions have consequences. If you are going to be a promiscuous, prostitute using, drug addicted shagger of teenagers I think you can reasonable expect this kind of reporting.
Men who use prostitutes show that they feel entitled to sex and aren't particularly concerned about whether the person they are doing sex to is into it. So why wouldn't they rape someone? It's cheaper than paying after all.

This is where conspiracy fans come in useful. No one gave a shit about what he was spouting about 24yr ago, at least no one government or shadowy forces gave a shit about. Russell brand was exactly zero problem to them. In fact his conspiracy peddling is a useful tool for them to bury actual otherwise unbelievable stuff.

Do you not think that might be a point that the Dispatches programme tonight might try to make...?

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 16/09/2023 17:46

Yes ok. I'll take that. I started a thread not knowing what the allegations were.

I'd always quite liked his comedy . Thought he was quite funny . That's what his career was built on, comedy.

I'm allowed to change my mind when in possession of the allegations aren't I ?
