I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

Well lucky for all you ‘fans’ and doubters one of the victims went to a rape centre, the rape centres sit on the evidence until such a time the victim feels able to report the incident to the police….

so we shall see….

people who went on his show years ago described him long before all this as a ‘vile predator’…. I’ve always found him vile, but I guess star struck fans are blind to that…

eastegg · 17/09/2023 22:38

Not rtft but I’m already sick of the ‘he’s never hidden what he was’ bollocks. You don’t know what he’s hidden, that’s what hidden means. I mean if he’s a rapist he’s hidden that hasn’t he. Reminds me of the Johnson/Trump style defence of ‘I’m such an arsehole it means everyone’s got it in for me and has an agendaaaa’.

Remember when one of his victims went to the police & was ignored so she wrote to the prime minister & her MP asking for help? She ended up in legal trouble for ‘harassment’.

I always say that. Why wait 10 years before saying anything . He has never made a secret of how much sex he had but has now calmed down and is more a family man

Because one of his victims was 16… no doubt terrified and ashamed to speak out….. at 26, or even 36 you’re more confident and have dealt with the incident enough to be able to report it!
I know someone who was abused for her whole childhood by a family member.. only as an adult did she speak out and fair play to her she got him sent down for it, he’d abused the siblings too and non of them were able to speak out until she did!
with sexual assault and rape comes a lot of judgement and shame…. I’ve heard people say ‘well what did she expect wearing that!!…. Or what did she expect going back to his place… why did she leave her drink unattended’…. Oh she must’ve lead him on….

it’s absolutely disgraceful that the female victims are still being blamed for men being rapists! Then those same people have the ordasity to ask ‘oh why didn’t they come forward sooner!!

MouseMinge · 17/09/2023 22:52

I was raped in the 80s and didn't go to the police because I knew the rapist, thought it was probably my fault and the conviction rate was low. The depressing thing was that the conviction rate was higher then, when society was arguably less likely to believe women, than they are now. People can go on about the "go to the police", and "legal process" bollocks as much as they like but things are getting worse not better and no woman owes it to anyone to put herself through a degrading system when she has already gone through a violent sexual assault.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 17/09/2023 22:53

So, watched it. There is one allegation of rape. I think he’s probably guilty of that, but can’t be sure.
All the rest was lots of allegations that Russell had lots of kinky consensual sex - which we knew. 🤷‍♀️ I’m not a fan, find him quite revolting, but there wasn’t much illegal in that programme. I’m not diminishing the rape, just saying the rest was all consensual and yes he’s a bit odd and perverted, which he never denied.

WTF?! A rape and at least two sexual assaults. Did you zone out while you were watching and miss that?

SPLIFFSFOREVER · 17/09/2023 20:25

Just had another drag on my spliff thanks love, just watched the news and hes still not been arrested yet..so put your prosecco down carefully as you get off your high horse..

The rape that he admitted to in a verified text was in the US.
She went to rape clinic the nex day but, understandably, declined to press charges at the time.

greenbeansnspinach · 17/09/2023 22:57

We must have watched different programmes, as the women speaking in the one I saw were describing non consensual sexual assaults, such as having to punch him in the stomach to make him get off her as he was sticking his penis down her throat, or another one describing having her mouth forcefully held open as she struggled, so he could drool into it. And so on.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/09/2023 23:02

It's worrying that several posters on this thread don't understand that rape is any act of non consensual penetration with a penis.

Those poor women!
i struggle to believe he only raped once, I think others will come forward now, I hope they also went to rape clinics so there’s evidence.
Danni minogue reportedly said he was a vile predator after going on his show and he was letching over her breasts..

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/09/2023 23:03

And sexual assault is any non consensual sexual act.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 17/09/2023 23:06

Think about that one … She alleges that as an anorexic 16 yr old whilst laying back with a penis shoved in her mouth and down her throat, that she was able to throw a punch into his stomach hard enough to wind him to get him off.
There is no way, in that physical position, that she would be able to throw a punch and wind him. That part doesn’t ring true to me at all. This is the same girl who says that her mother took her to drop her off at his birthday party ‘so that he would know she was young’ (Today’s Telegraph) - why would any mother do that? He wouldn’t let the mother in! Why did she take her daughter there? Why did she want to go in? Because she wanted to get into the party, that’s why - her story…It just doesn’t add up.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/09/2023 23:08

Wanting to get into a glamorous party at 16 is understandable, it doesn't mean you're fair game to be raped or sexually assaulted.

T1Dmama · 17/09/2023 23:12

Oh yeah.. I can’t imagine any 16 year old wanting to go to a party at a famous persons house, surrounded by famous people… and if it was a busy party why would a mother not drop her teenager there? Thinking she was surrounded by people so safe….
also I should imagine when being raped and struggling to breathe you’d muster up enough strength to fight back, even skinny women can punch, and let’s face it Russell is a skinny runt so wouldn’t take too much of a punch to hurt him!

Why are you so determined to call these women liars?! I really hope it never happens to anyone you love..

We knew

Oh you knew he’d forced his cock down the throat of a 16 year old did you? Either you really, really weren’t listening, or you have an extremely screwed up idea of what consensual sex is. I really have no patience with your kind of drivel.

And yes you are diminishing it. ‘Not much illegal’? Just one of the most serious offences in the criminal law, that’s all.

What a disgusting misrepresentation of the situation she described. Jesus Christ.

And you didn't even get her position right. She wasn't lying back. She literally says she was in an entirely different position to that.

'I was sat up in the bed up against the headboard, and he forced his penis down my throat and I couldn’t breathe. It was just choking me and I couldn’t breathe, and I was pushing him away and he wasn’t backing off at all.'

monsteramunch · 17/09/2023 23:15

You know what @Toomuchtrouble4me I wish I hadn't posted that because on reflection I think nobody should engage with people like you. Your posts are disgusting. Truly disgusting.

I hope to god you have no children or other young people who could possibly confide in you about being assaulted.

T1Dmama · 17/09/2023 23:16

This thread is depressing. Full of victim blaming and people saying it happened ages ago so doesn’t count…. Some of you are vile

T1Dmama · 17/09/2023 23:18

100% @monsteramunch … they’re vile….

You've got that wrong. She said she was sat up against the headboard. If you're going to make desperate attempts to be an apologist for a sexual predator, at least get what these women said right being as your argument rests on it. 🚩🚩🚩

I think you were right to post. I didn't realise you had posted and I actually just went into the dispatches programme to watch that part again, because I was sure the poor girl said she was sitting up against the headboard. Came on and said it and realise now you have written the full quote. The other poster is an apologist for sexual predators. Sickening.

FuckingHellAdele · 16/09/2023 16:28

Well maybe watch what the programme has to show and see?

If there are allegations of rape and sexual abuse, I think the alleged victims have a right to be at least heard before anyone goes 'oh this old hat again yada yada'

Yes, it should be in court it on the media

Totally agree. I bet they don’t come back. This type of poster often doesn’t. Says something vile, is challenged and doesn’t have the courtesy to respond, leaving you feeling silly for bothering to engage. You’ll never get anywhere. They’ll respond as long as it suits them then skulk off. The sort of person who thinks that all the allegations were consensual apart from the rape, then starts calling one of those complainants a liar, really isn’t worth spending a second on.
