I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

He's always been known as a predator on the circuit, apparently he has a VERY good team of lawyers. I think it's pretty clear now that he was who Katherine Ryan was talking about in her Louis Theroux interview. She said she couldn't afford to be bankrupted by him but she knows personal friends who were assaulted. I mean he was on heroin for years and he's openly admitted to assaulting women (spitting in their face) ...for him to claim that he had consent for every sexual encounter is a little bit murky. But let's see what the doc says.

I think people are being thrown off by the ‘sex addict/promiscuous’ aspect here. I am friends with plenty of people who have very unconventional/kinky/polyamorous sex lives and none of them are rapists because, amazingly, they respect their sexual partners and understand what consent is. If Brand had only ever had sex with one person and had behaved the way he’s alleged to have behaved, he’d still be a rapist. Equally, he could have had sex with thousands of women in a consenting and respectful way and these allegations wouldn’t exist. It’s not about someone’s sexual lifestyle choices, it’s about their human decency and respect for women. Which he clearly lacks.

Whilst this does need investigating because its alleged that their is a victim as young as 16,however I don't believe trial by media is the way to go and being promiscuous does not mean he's guilty as anything I was quite promiscuous at the age of 11 or 12 because of ongoing abuse but I never raped anyone despite me being way to young everything was consensual, clearly there are vulnerable people involved and I don't believe this should be playing out via prime time TV

@Blueeyedmale problem with that is that if this is who people like Katherine Ryan have been talking about then it’s existed as an open and accepted secret for a very long time. Either people haven’t wanted to or couldn’t use formal routes because formal routes simply wouldn’t have shielded them enough to make the accusations official. At this point it needs the secrecy removing and making it an issue that has to be faced.

Some people are so naive - and ignorant about what happens if you report sexual assault to the police.

I went to the police after I was raped and the police called me mental and told me it was "nothing".

The way the police treated me left me suicidal and still haunts me. I never feel safe anymore because I know nobody will ever protect me. Even when it's supposed to be their job.

I support the right of victims to protect themselves from being damaged further by the police and courts. It has no bearing on their credibility that they have declined to go through that horrific process.

Because to be honest if it was not true but he now got arrested, it wouldn't be a fair trial

And contrary to anyone who thinks it is being an apologist, if nothing is proveable it really is his word against there's and I'm afraid there are some people who will make claims for whatever reason about all kinds of things in life that were not true.

I absolutely agree it should be investigated, as allegations of rape always should be. I have no idea whether it's true or not; no one has. I don't like the media hype around it, though , and with several publications getting together to do it.

People need to stop saying "trial by media" as if it's the sun or daily mail. This has been investigated by thorough investigative journalists who will make sure their case is water tight this isn't a cheap exposé. These journalists will not have left a stone unturned and will be 100% confident in what they say. Investigative journalists are very good at what they do and have exposed crimes, corruption etc time and time again. We are getting too used to fake news and have forgotten that proper journalists have integrity and can be trusted. That is why I 100% believe these women and believe Brand is a rapist and I hope these women get the justice they want and deserve.

I've said I was wrong . Other than writing it in blood I can't really do more than apologise for my not having found the articles and reading them before starting the thread , but ultimately I think discussing these things is a good thing , and enlightening.
