I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

I've always thought that he was fucking disgusting and have never understood why he was ever popular or on tv at all.

Even if he didn't rape anyone (which I fully believe that he did), his attitude and behaviour towards women in vile

Lalgarh · 17/09/2023 00:49

So then. Dan Sloss. The only comedian who went on record about hearing allegations about Brand.

I've never heard of him.

I mean where are all those new man standups? Why wasn't Brand called out by others? They mentioned some were asked to have materials removed. Katherine Ryan is the closest any got.

I mean where's Nish Kumar Stewart Lee and Dara O Brian and all that lot

Comedian Daniel Sloss' powerful statement everyone needs to listen to

Critically acclaimed comedian Daniel Sloss has won praise from fans around the world for the inspirational advice he included in one of his hit Netflix stand-up shows

Good luck proving it twenty years later without any witnesses...

It really doesn't matter what we think on here, you know?

Er, Harvey Weinstein. For starters.

FrogsLegs111 · 17/09/2023 00:53

@HatThatWearsYou fantasist is about right. All you say is true. Last I read the OP was half dead from the worst case of Lymes disease ever seen.

I suspect an alcohol problem is behind it but this just makes it so hard to believe a single word posted

Rape or not I think that we all agree here he’s a massive jerk, but I’m afraid we sort of knew that already.

greenhydrangea · 17/09/2023 00:56

OP: Trial by media . If he has committed CRIMINAL offences notify the police

Also OP: When I was raped on a first date I didn't report it . I knew what I'd be in for.

HatThatWearsYou · 17/09/2023 00:57

@FrogsLegs111 Agreed, which is very sad.

OP, for what it's worth I do believe you were raped and I am really so very sorry that happened to you.

I do hope you get help for your issues and I really wish you'd be more of a supporter for your fellow woman when you post though.

MidnightMeltdown · 17/09/2023 00:59

I agree. It should not be trial by media. These women should have been supported in going to the police and let them investigate. This is wrong on every level. If may well be true but why should the press and general public get to make that decision? It should have gone to the police

@FlamingoFloss

I don't see how it is wrong at all. What decision should people not be allowed to make? Obviously the press and the general public are not sending him to jail, that decision is for the courts. However, I think people have a right to know what the accusations are. It may help other women come forward who previously feared that they wouldn't be believed.

Whilst I am in no way defending RB, if what is being reported is true (and nobody here knows for sure if it is or not) - I think all the comparisons to JS are
way out of line. JS inveigled his way into hospitals, mental institutions (Rampton for example) childrens' and adults hospital wards, intensive care units, and sexually abused mentally handicapped and bedbound patients on the strength of being famous, running marathons for charity, and being a "national treasure" Also abused young girls from a local school for "wayward girls" Took them out in his car and abused them, some as young as 13.

That's a whole other level of sick. RB, if he's guilty, deserves whatever is coming to him. But comparing him to JS's carefully planned and horrible ugly modus operandi on helpless bedbound, physically and mentally disabled patients - some apparently unconscious, as has been witnessed, is not the same thing at all. His crimes were evil and cannot be excused by citing human weakness.

Not making any excuses for RB, as I said. But very unfair to tar him with the same brush of inhumanity that painted the monstrous awful crimes of JS.

As a teenager in Leeds on the "disco circuit" our paths regularly crossed.
I never got within 20 feet of him. There was a reason for that.

LouHey · 17/09/2023 01:01

I'd wager it has been reported to the police and ignored. I doubt the papers would have touched the story otherwise. The police were practically useless when it came to rape victims in the late 90s, early 2000s. Even when reports weren't against famous people.

ScottishIceCream · 17/09/2023 01:02

RedToothBrush · 17/09/2023 00:28

Brand got a standing ovation tonight. The show was on at the same time as the programme.

That crowd all decided to still turn up which can only be described as an act of support.

They might have seen some news on what was supposed to be in the programme. But none of them watched it first.

They'd already decided, they'd support him.

I think it's an observation to keep in mind.

A lot of people don't want to believe he's done anything wrong. A lot of people are invested in his style of humour. If they think he's funny and it turns out he's a rapist, what does that say about them?

Being in denial is often an act of self preservation.

Yeah, I remember Rolf Harris getting the same reception when he went on stage.

Bet they're embarrassed now.

SwiftieGrainger · 17/09/2023 01:03

Sorry but I did. There's virtually no reason to swear at an awkward teenager when you're in the public eye and clearly not on the phone. Wtaf is wrong with some of these responses. I also judge him for being a total creep and judge people for defending him.

SwiftieGrainger · 17/09/2023 01:04

Pasithean · 17/09/2023 01:17

Can we not show some respect. He is a husband, father, son. What has all this done to them.? He has NOT been found guilty by a jury. He probably won’t get a fair trial now. If it comes to that.
Can you not hold your venom til then.

my DH has a friend accused of rape . It is with the cps now. He had lost his home family and business. It has killed his mental health . He has also lost an elderly relative who was previously in excellent health . The stress and shock was too much.

thid is the most horrible thread . Did people not learn from the thread where various names were being slandered before Huw was named as the suspect.

Maybe OP learned from her experience?

Anyway, maybe don't be a twat to someone who has been a victim of SA?

CarpeVitam · 17/09/2023 01:18

monsteramunch · 16/09/2023 23:31

Nothing will ever come of this.

His career is hugely damaged if not over. He won't be booked by people for work now and his earning potential is hugely lessened.

Women will now know he is a sexual predator with form for assaulting women, lessening his ability to reoffend. Not stopping that ability, but reducing the risk as women will know he's been accused of offences.

It's a tiny, disproportionally small bit of justice. But that's better than none at all.

@monsteramunch, This!

And yet how sad is it that this is what 'justice' looks like for far too many women.

It's actually heartbreaking.

Fair point, well made.

I will concede that there are degrees of harm.
And actually I found the Jimmy Saville part of the documentary a bit beyond the pale when he was a Sir and mates with the royals, not RB

MidnightMeltdown · 17/09/2023 01:24

sadaboutmycat · 16/09/2023 23:34

In the U.K. we are innocent until proven guilty. I don't think that someone who has only been accused of,not even arrested for, a crime, should be named at all.
Trial by media must stop.

Why should he not be named? If I worked with somebody who had accused of rape by multiple women then I'd want to know about it.

People have a right to know what the accusations are and it may mean that other women come forward.
