Good point @watermeloncougar

The only jetski owners I know are chavs who have a disregard for everyone who isn't them. Our neighbour revs his by our fence (ie. not on the water) each year. Cunts. I hope they lock up the dickhead who murdered two kids for a long, long time.

Should we wait to see what’s actually happened?

LotsOfBalloons · 01/06/2023 13:53

Also that the victims weren't related. As far as they know it was just people in the water.

Because currently police are saying no jet ski involvement.

TheUsualChaos · 01/06/2023 15:27

Sounds like they can't confirm yet what was the cause of accident but I would put money on a jet ski being involved in this somehow. Hate the bloody things. They have no place anywhere near a busy beach.

The police did confirm that a jet ski was not involved

But the police have confirmed a jet ski was not involved!

ChateauMargaux · 01/06/2023 16:25

How horrible for everyone involved. This is an awful incident and how horrible for the families of those who died.

We must also bear in mind that accidental water deaths remain rare, accounting for approximately 1% of all accidental deaths and rates are infact decreasing over time, approximately by 20% over the period 2013 to 2022 despite slight increases in the past two years, and nearly half of those that drowned, never intended to get into the water, and a futher 30% were not swimming.

We are not worse at keeping our children safe than we were in the time of 'Charlie says' and 'lidos on every corner'.

Zonder · 01/06/2023 16:25

I hope they do announce what happened soon, just to stop all these rumours - jet skis, jumping off piers etc

Me too. The longer delay the more rumours

LotsOfBalloons · 01/06/2023 16:47

Well they've said it wasn't a jet ski or jumping off pier...

TheUsualChaos · 01/06/2023 16:55

Well tbh I thought the wording on the BBC report was a bit odd I as the police statement so far has said no CONTACT with a jet ski..didn't actually confirm or deny whether any boat/jet ski was involved somehow. They must have good reason to have made an arrest 🤷‍♀️

Brocolibee · 01/06/2023 16:58

When will the police learn? Of course they can't release certain information but as they saw recently with NB doing pointless press conferences which actually just make speculation is more likely is just fanning the flames.

That's what I picked up too. They didn't collide with a boat or jetski.
Doesn't mean a jetski didn't cause a very powerful wake.

And the arrested was ON in the water, unless he's Jesus that suggests a boat of some description.

toomuchlaundry · 01/06/2023 17:18

@Brocolibee maybe it's the public who need to learn not the police. They are trying to do their Jon and I assume they need to be as careful as they can in the words they are using if they are going to charge someone

toomuchlaundry · 01/06/2023 17:19

Job, not sure who Jon is!!

Zonder · 01/06/2023 17:38

LotsOfBalloons · 01/06/2023 16:47

That hasn't stopped the rumours that it was a jet ski or jumping off the pier!

LotsOfBalloons · 01/06/2023 17:39

@theusualchaos. I said what I did as the police have confirmed the swimmers were in the water (not jumping in) and No Jetskis Were Involved. In reply to the post above mine that asked this.

"I can also confirm there is no suggestion of people jumping from the pier or jet-skis being involved."

However yes the no contact with a vessel does beg the question somewhat if the suspect was in a boat...

LotsOfBalloons · 01/06/2023 17:40

@Zonder I know! The usual chaos and Sugar free are still mentioning jetskis 🤦‍♀️. Even when told they've been ruled out!

Zonder · 01/06/2023 17:41

But have you thought it might have been because a jet ski... Or maybe not!

watermeloncougar · 01/06/2023 17:44

For 10 swimmers to be hurt (albeit minor injuries for most) and need to be rescued it's hard to imagine how it could be anything else, given the man in custody was 'on the water.' The wake from a power boat could easily force people underwater or into the piles if they were near the pier. If it turns out it was a powerful vessel involved I hope they throw the bloody book at the driver.
Id like to see any sort of jet ski/ power boat restricted ideally to lakes where swimmers aren't allowed or to very separate demarcated areas if they're at the coast. The situation currently is a joke - regardless of this specific incident. I'm fed up of swimming in the sea when idiots on these machines don't understand the need to keep the fuck out of the way.

Sugarfree23 · 01/06/2023 17:46

OK it might have been a boat, but somehow the arrested was ON the water not IN the water.

BonesBrennanz · 01/06/2023 17:49

Well since 8 of the 10 involved are alive to tell the tale I’m sure we will eventually know what happened. That said I imagine the police are being careful what they say so they don’t prejudice any future court proceedings. They will also have told those involved not to speak to the press.

watermeloncougar · 01/06/2023 18:02

Dozens of witnesses I imagine; the sea and beach get pretty packed on sunny summer afternoons
