Sad all round.

I remember signing a petition a year ago pushing for more water safety lessons in schools. Learning how to swim safely out of a rip tide is so important.

Very sad, but possibly slightly easier for the families to come to terms with knowing it was natural causes rather than someone being negligent.

If he wasn’t Licensed and this tragedy shone a light on it I think he did deserve to lose his business.

Paddingtonthebear · 15/07/2023 18:55

The boat was sold last month to save the business.

I don't recall anything about the boat being unlicensed. Why have you made this comment?

LotsOfBalloons · 15/07/2023 19:59

No it wasn't unlicensed. But the mystery around it from the police meant the business went under :(

Drowning transcript

Apparently this was discussed again in parliament last week. Sadly with the mother of one of the children that died in the Bournemouth incident. She made some good points.

I feel the MP’s response wasn’t enough. It merely ‘encourages’ schools to add more to their water safety lessons. So talk about rip tides etc. But I feel this should be on the actual curriculum.

The girl’s mother also made some good points about more signposting of potential rip tide risk. Children to wear brightly coloured swimsuits (her daughter was in a black one and it was hard to find her). She also pointed out the inequality across the population in terms of access to swimming lessons. Although they are provided at school they are often substandard.

She raised so many good points. It’s a shame the government aren’t doing more. They seem to be passing the buck to the schools (surprise surprise).
