Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

So never leave the house?

Meghan was barely seen at all this year - only 3/4 times I think - yet she was talked about constantly in the media, on SM, on Mn, everywhere.. Most of the coronation talk was about Harry and Meghan. How can they possibly live any more "quietly" and limit their exposure? Stop breathing altogether?

Well, they could stop making announcements about anything for starters. They could also stop calling the paps? Not accept some ridiculous award in person? Just decide that this lifestyle is too dangerous and just leave the entertainment industry? Why could they not do that? They intentionally attract attention. They clearly resent the press and anything that puts them in the press but have a spokesman that comments on the private business.

Twatalert · 17/05/2023 23:44

@behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas some people work in investment banking, the culture of which makes them ill. They leave that industry because it's not in their power to change the culture. But they can change careers. Why don't the Sussexes do that? Because they don't want to. They want to make money, hundreds of millions, and at least one of them also likes to be in the limelight. But they get stroppy because they can't control the toxic culture of the industry they work in. Just leave!?

Twatalert · 17/05/2023 23:48

Isn't it strange that Meghan comes out of the woodwork every time a major royal event has taken place!?

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 17/05/2023 23:51

@Twatalert Change their careers into what? Leave to go where?

You do realise that Harry's a blood prince, that is his career. A prince's career, in this day and age, is to promote good causes, do you expect him to stop doing that? And then what, work in tescos? The limelight will follow him wherever he goes.

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 17/05/2023 23:05

@Twatalert What do you suggest they do, go and live in a cave?

How many really famous people are there out there who go about their private lives without all of this hoo ha ? H and M court it, they want it and then they complain about it.

I wonder if you are a troll or just naive.

Ah OK princess Sophie then. If you look in Wikipedia they refer to Meghan as a princess and Sophie not (a Princess) so....but I was just trying to show that literally nobody cares what princess Sophie is doing but even princess Meghans detractors are constantly on the look out for any pretty pics of Meghan, tabloids like dm know this and the fact that she brings in the revenue for them, so whilst princess Sophie may be a working royal princess Meghan generates more interest and adulation

You do know that Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information?

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 18/05/2023 00:00

@Twatalert I am not a troll thanks, anyone who disagrees with you is a troll I see. I notice you can't answer my last reply.

Ninjama1 · 18/05/2023 00:06

It all seems so odd - M smirking in the back of a taxi and H filming it all on his phone. No panic there then.

Near catastrophe they said. You don't think scooters, motorbikes, cars crashing and killing passengers/pedestrians etc can count as catastrophic? A bomb or plane going into a building isn't the ONLY catastrophic thing that can ever happen in city, you know.

Perhaps you need to look up the word in a dictionary.

Blood princes (sounds like Harry Potter) and princesses don't have to live off promoting good causes. Prince Richard of Gloucester used to work as an architect. Peter Phillips has equal status to a prince. He doesn't live off good works. Eugenie and Beatrice are both princesses. Both do good works for charities but it's not a source of income. They both held jobs. Prince Harry could have stayed in the army. He was offered that opportunity.

He made the choice to gossip about his family and sell private and personal information about them. That's what's kept them in the limelight.

blacksax · 17/05/2023 22:57

The sinking of the Titanic, the Boxing Day Tsunami, 9/11, the eruption of Krakatoa, Deepwater Horizon and the Great Fire of London were all catastrophes.

Using the word to describe a non-event involving a handful of individuals is a bit over the top.

Exactly 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, perhaps not 911 levels of catastrophe (as a PP tried to compare it to) but a car pile-up would be catastrophic by anyone's standards.

I don't think it was high speed, but to H&M it must have been pretty intense and scary, if people are chasing you for so long and you can't go home or shake them off. It wouldn't have been easy to just stop and let them take your pic, one of them could have had a gun or been a stalker.

I'm sure they live with regular high anxiety, especially Harry, and that would heighten the incident in their minds.

I don't understand what was stopping them driving normally and going home. Yes, there would have been some pictures taken as they got out of the car, but so what? This is the man who has been selling interviews to be broadcast far and wide, would the odd photo have been so terrible? And there's no more likelihood of encountering a stalker or a gunman than there was every time he did a publicity tour for his book.

NotSoBigCrocodile · 17/05/2023 23:31

I’m going to preface this by saying that Harry and Meghan don’t actually bother me, and that I really enjoyed listening to Harry’s audiobook, but…

This is ridiculous. They were followed by paparazzi which, rightly or wrongly, is a by-product of celebrity. It comes with the territory.

It seems they were staying with a friend and didn’t want the paparazzi to know the friend’s address, so instead of just getting out at a hotel and regrouping, they decided to dial up the drama, and drive around NYC for 2 hours - at one point, even getting into a yellow taxi.

They would have known there was a good chance they may be followed by the paparazzi - why not just stay at a hotel in the first place.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they shouldn’t have to put up with this etc, but it is the nature of the beast, and I doubt anyone would be bothered if it were Justin Beiber.

It just all seems so unecessarily dramatic.

If you're very famous and don't want the press to find out where you are staying, why on earth would you take a taxi? Surely you'd have to be aware that the driver would probably be selling the information to the highest bidder as soon as you got out of the cab?

I actually think Meghan looks quite distressed here. I suspect she’s working not to give them what they want.

So @Ninjama1 from mumsnet and the rest of them are reliable sources of information are they🙄 Gosh you lot and your title policing!😆next time I want info about the rf I'll come to you guys since google and Wikipedia are so unreliable! Anyway my point was nobody cares about what duchess Forfar or whatever you want to call her is doing, meanwhile princess Meghan was making front page news in her sweaty hiking gear during King Charles coronation.

I am really taken aback by the absolute acceptance of the paparazzi right to behave in that manner.

I am really taken aback by the idea that it is ok for a car to be stopped/prevented from moving and a group of men can surround it taking pictures of the women trapped inside.

We have loist all reason.

Women are doomed.

AliceOlive · 18/05/2023 04:38

It’s not ok at all to stop a car like that. It’s horrible.

Women are definitely doomed, too. This wasn’t our first indication, though.

Also, NYC is a shithole now and even though I love it, it terrifies me. I’ve seen much scarier things than this on the news there in the past few years.

Whaeanui · 18/05/2023 06:33

One of the security involved has spoken and said they did not fear for their lives but for pedestrians and other people.

I haven’t read all of this but I’m still amazed people think this is hard to believe or irregular. Jennifer Lopez has frequently complained about paparazzi and has said before she thinks they’ll kill her one day. Many many celebrities have said similar things, Jennifer Anniston’s had a minor car accident trying to get through them before. They weave in and around the celebrities cars on mopeds and follow them so closely. Of course it’s terrifying.

Before I went to sleep I saw Backgrid’s statement and again, amazed people are taking the paparazzis word for it. Just amazed.

Yes because he isn't getting any £££££ from it.
