Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Another post, dismissing someone's legitimate fears.

I imagine if it was your child in that mansion, as a mother, you'd have reacted in a similar manner.

DD is incredibly accident prone, and in the moment it can be nerve racking. I then calm down and put it in perspective.

I might have felt like her initially but when it turned out that it was a piffling nothing, I wouldn't be still stewing over it 3 years later. I'd have probably have forgotten all about it. After all, the baby and the fire were on different floors of the housing unit, aka the High Commissioners mansion.

blacksax · 17/05/2023 22:57

The sinking of the Titanic, the Boxing Day Tsunami, 9/11, the eruption of Krakatoa, Deepwater Horizon and the Great Fire of London were all catastrophes.

Using the word to describe a non-event involving a handful of individuals is a bit over the top.

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Of course this chase would have been catastrophic!

Not necessarily for Meghan and Harry, but for the pedestrians and other bystanders. Its New York city, there's a lot of foot traffic.

Didn't Sophie's motorcade (duchess of Edinburgh) run over an 80 year old woman this week? and Sophie has sent her thoughts and prayers?

Yes, this NYC chase, would definitely have been catastrophic. Do not minimize it just because Meghan and Harry are involved.

Yeah, perhaps not 911 levels of catastrophe (as a PP tried to compare it to) but a car pile-up would be catastrophic by anyone's standards.

I don't think it was high speed, but to H&M it must have been pretty intense and scary, if people are chasing you for so long and you can't go home or shake them off. It wouldn't have been easy to just stop and let them take your pic, one of them could have had a gun or been a stalker.

I'm sure they live with regular high anxiety, especially Harry, and that would heighten the incident in their minds.

Sagharbor · 17/05/2023 22:41

But their son was in the house. And you think it is something to laugh about?

Yes as there was no fire and they certainly weren't in a housing unit.

PicturesOfDogs · 17/05/2023 23:01

‘Near catastrophic’ Pfft.

It was actually near fatal according to some.

Absolutely fucking ridiculous.

Where do I find this?

Julian Phillips, the deputy commissioner of the New York Police Department, has said officers "assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex".
He added: "There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard."

Maybe this lifestyle isn't for them and they need to make changes as so many people do every day.

A tragedy for all concerned - yes. But to use the word catastrophe in the context of an event that didn't happen in a city which has witnessed first-hand one of the world's greatest catastrophes is pretty crass.

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 17/05/2023 23:05

@Twatalert What do you suggest they do, go and live in a cave?

I wouldn't have lied about it, no. Things and near accidents happen all the time to millions of people. Megs has a track record for lying and exaggerating and playing the victim.

You know full well this isn't what I suggest and that they could easily choose to do a 'job' away from the limelight, but it's not what they want. The press is intrusive and paps are shit and it should not be like that. But they nearly got killed by it about a dozen times now. Any other person would change companies and switch to a different career path. Because people deal with crap that makes them ill all the time and they need to take responsibility and make choices that are better for them. How are the sussexes exempt from that?

@Twatalert What do you suggest they do, go and live in a cave?

No. Just in their 14 bedroom house, taking their children back and forth to school, going playing polo, flying round the country for pap shots. Nothing much seems to happen to them there.

Near catastrophe they said. You don't think scooters, motorbikes, cars crashing and killing passengers/pedestrians etc can count as catastrophic? A bomb or plane going into a building isn't the ONLY catastrophic thing that can ever happen in city, you know.

PicturesOfDogs · 17/05/2023 23:10

This is how it was being reported in the am by page 6.

The insider alleges that one cameraman hit a car while another almost ran over an NYPD officer during the “near-fatal” chase

I’m sure we can all agree this is absolute bollocks.

I am shocked that the NYPD couldn't respond to the threat of catastrophe over the course of 2 hours.

And yet no arrests were made?

I wonder why?

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 17/05/2023 22:42

Well they would say that, wouldn't they.

Although presumably they will have a huge number of photos/videos of the evening.

There were four suvs? So they weren’t battling this onslaught of papping armed only their bravery and truth?

WheresSpring · 17/05/2023 23:17

@behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas no - but they could certainly choose to live a lifestyle that limited their exposure to this sort of situation? As you username implies you would too?

SidekickSylvia · 17/05/2023 23:24

When they said that the Archbishop broke the law (by marrying them early and without witnesses), he just said 'No, I didn't' and that was pretty much the end of it.

But this time they're accusing photographers of breaking several laws; driving on the sidewalk, running red lights, driving while using phones and equipment and putting pedestrians and other motorists in danger. They're saying NYPD were there and...what? Turned a blind eye by making a statement saying 'No arrests, no summons etc.'?

You can't just go around accusing people of breaking laws (paps) or being incompetent (NYPD) just to suit your own victim narrative. This load of made up drama is going to bite them on the arse.

NotSoBigCrocodile · 17/05/2023 23:31

I’m going to preface this by saying that Harry and Meghan don’t actually bother me, and that I really enjoyed listening to Harry’s audiobook, but…

This is ridiculous. They were followed by paparazzi which, rightly or wrongly, is a by-product of celebrity. It comes with the territory.

It seems they were staying with a friend and didn’t want the paparazzi to know the friend’s address, so instead of just getting out at a hotel and regrouping, they decided to dial up the drama, and drive around NYC for 2 hours - at one point, even getting into a yellow taxi.

They would have known there was a good chance they may be followed by the paparazzi - why not just stay at a hotel in the first place.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they shouldn’t have to put up with this etc, but it is the nature of the beast, and I doubt anyone would be bothered if it were Justin Beiber.

It just all seems so unecessarily dramatic.

So never leave the house?

Meghan was barely seen at all this year - only 3/4 times I think - yet she was talked about constantly in the media, on SM, on Mn, everywhere.. Most of the coronation talk was about Harry and Meghan. How can they possibly live any more "quietly" and limit their exposure? Stop breathing altogether?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 17/05/2023 23:36

It seems their brand is all about the drama.

WheresSpring · 17/05/2023 23:36

No @behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas im clearly not suggesting that🤣🤣….but they could absolutely choose to live a more private and dignified family life rather than chasing the celebrity they clearly crave. It’s very sad that they choose not to do this because it is absolutely within their power to do so.
