Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Apparently it lasted 2 hours. Surely there should have been some sort of exit plan for that situation?

Strange that the UK tabloids are uniquely awful, but Diana's crash was in France, and this (alleged) chase in the USA...

Exactly. Somehow suits their story quite conveniently. And a spokeperson to annonce ...

ejbaxa · 17/05/2023 15:35

Surely people who chase them like this need to be in prison?

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/05/2023 15:36

That report says nothing about it being a high speed chase. You don't need excessive speed in order for it to be dangerous. They wouldn't necessarily know it was paps either.

ejbaxa · 17/05/2023 15:36

Let's hope the car had a rear cam and so proof is straightforward and the perpetrators can be prosecuted.

rainraingoawaay · 17/05/2023 15:36

I don't understand how it was a 2 hour long "relentless pursuit"?

Not sure if I'm being silly, but that just doesn't make sense how it wasn't stopped prior to it being 2 hours long / how the police didn't stop them / how it actually worked. 2 hours in New York in a car chase? The traffic is so bad you'd just be stood still for half of it!

Involving near collisions with other drivers / pedestrians / police officers makes it sound like one of those getaway escapes you see on police interceptors, I'm baffled.

Yes, a rear cam would be useful in establishing what happened.

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 17/05/2023 15:36

2 hours is insane, it was in New York, surely they were only going from awards ceremony to hotel (or maybe airport).

OneFrenchEgg · 17/05/2023 15:37

Well it looks like no one was hurt (physically) which is a relief. Thanks people for linking proper news sites so quickly, LBC was a little confusing at the time.

When will these scummy paparazzi ever learn?

When there's no longer an insatiable desire from the public for the shit they produce.

Sarvanga38 · 17/05/2023 15:40

This really is the weirdest story. 'Near catastrophic' and 'near collisions', and no bugger managing to extract them in less than two hours.

They really don't help themselves.

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 17/05/2023 15:40

Pictures that have appeared on social media have shown Harry, Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland, in a taxi.

Surely they weren't actually in a taxi? I'm assuming this means hired car with driver etc, not like a cab.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 17/05/2023 15:41

Yeah, right. 🔔 🦵 🔔

mixedrecycling · 17/05/2023 15:41

Perhaps best to wait until more information is available - I am aware of the paparazzi 'chase' in their Netflix series that was one (alleged) motorcyclist that wasn't captured on camera, despite the film makers being there in the car...

Discwriter · 17/05/2023 15:42

I saw photos of the three of them in the back of a yellow NYC taxi and thought it was strange seeing they arrived in the standard, black, tinted SUVs.

Agree it’s very weird, suits their narrative.

I thought they had a security team, seems odd the 3 of them are all in a taxi in New York on their own.

Discwriter · 17/05/2023 15:44

The 3 of them in the taxi looked weird, considering how they arrived to the same event.

Ihavenoauthority · 17/05/2023 15:45

What a load of crap, another stunt to try and get free security 🤣

mixedrecycling · 17/05/2023 15:46

It does come at the time when apparently Harry has launched a second legal case re: his UK security 😂

CosmosQueen · 17/05/2023 15:46

If so many vehicles/people were involved/hit how come no injuries?
Something doesn’t ring true to me.

hugefanofcheese · 17/05/2023 15:47

Re why didn't they just stop, I wonder whether they actually knew at the time it was paparazzi or the briefing is just to keep going if followed as it could be a kidnapper or anything. Not sure why they wouldn't drive to a police station though or the police wouldn't intercept before 2 hours if they reported being in potential danger.

🤔 it’ll all be revealed in Spare 2 I’m sure….

Florissante · 17/05/2023 15:47

Interesting timing, considering Harry's law suit about private security in the UK.

BlowseNSkirt · 17/05/2023 15:48

"Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all in involved." I think this is from their spokesperson, in which case - how convenient that sharing of any images or footage of the incident is being discouraged. I'm in no doubt Harry finds the paparazzi situation traumatic, but he seems to have walked right into this one. Where was his security team and why did they not get him out of this situation sooner?

funnelfan · 17/05/2023 15:48

so many questions. They were in a taxi? Not a private hire care/limo with tinted windows and a driver trained in chauffeuring high profile passengers? (Not uncommon in NY!)

the paparazzi - were they driving dangerously and causing the problems eg by trying to cut off the taxi driver? Or did the taxi driver get a rush of blood to the head in trying to evade some tailing paparazzi? How on earth did it all last 2 hours in NY without it turning into a live streamed event like the OJ Simpson chase?

where was their security? Did they have any? If not, surely Harry has had his own situational training both previously as a Royal and also when he was in the Army that could have de-escalated the situation
