Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

The wording given by their spokesperson was interesting.

I’m sure I am not the only one to have first seen the words (at a glance when it popped up on my phone) “Harry Meghan Catastrophic” then my brain read the next word as “crash”

My mind then jumped directly to Diana and I thought he had nearly died like his mother.

Then when I actually read it I felt a little like I had been intentionally duped, but mostly puzzled as to why the drama? When I read the NYPD statement I felt deceived.

These statements are given a lot of thought before being released to the press. The wording and images it revoked were 100% intentional. Imagine how his brother and father must have felt reading that.

@Ninjama1 did you watch it? It’s quite obvious what the point is.

@MrsFinkelstein " Apparently they were driving up and down FDR drive for most of the time as they didn't want paps to know where they were staying. "

Did they, perchance, have cardboard signs hanging out of the car windows
saying " We want our privasaaaaay! " ??? 🤔 😏

No, but I believe they were accompanied by brightly coloured birds whose tails looked like they had been dipped in paint pots.

(Don't thank me; thank Omid for that description.)

I actually think Meghan looks quite distressed here. I suspect she’s working not to give them what they want.

Yes I get the impression she's trying not to show them anything

Yes I did - I was just wondering what it was so worthy of being quoted by you? There's nothing new in it is there?

It's incredibly tasteless of H&M's spokesperson to spread rumours in this way to conjure up Diana-death sympathy for the Duke and Duchess of Muppet from the public. It's beyond the pale really.

I am really taken aback by the absolute acceptance of the paparazzi right to behave in that manner.

I am really taken aback by the idea that it is ok for a car to be stopped/prevented from moving and a group of men can surround it taking pictures of the women trapped inside.

We have loist all reason.

Women are doomed.

I don't see anyone saying this on this thread? I certainly didn't.

I agree with you. People are actually siding with these repulsive men that follow snd stalk people! They wouldn’t if it happened to them.

The point is though that there are many versions of what has happened and people are trying to sift through it all. I prefer official ones. One random person's twitter isn't any different from what I have read on here already today ie it is like Diana all over again blah blah so I don't really think this is anything new?

Mackerson · 18/05/2023 07:21

It was NYC. There'll have been thousands of people filming cars swarming over pavements trying to run over policemen and civilians for two hours. I'm sure we'll see these being released during today and we can judge for ourselves how badly the paps behaved.
They really do need to be stopped because it's awful behaviour.

KrasiTime · 18/05/2023 07:29

Do I think they were harassed by paparazzi?- yes.
Do I think it was near catastrophic? - No
Do I think it was a 2 hour car chase in NY of all places? - no not with that traffic.
Do I think it was triggering for Harry? - most likely.

tigger2022 · 18/05/2023 07:31

The plot thickens! I did think it was completely unnecessary to perform “evasive manoeuvres” as they described. It was intrusive but it was just people with cameras at the end of the day.

One of the security involved has spoken and said they did not fear for their lives but for pedestrians and other people.

I haven’t read all of this but I’m still amazed people think this is hard to believe or irregular. Jennifer Lopez has frequently complained about paparazzi and has said before she thinks they’ll kill her one day. Many many celebrities have said similar things, Jennifer Anniston’s had a minor car accident trying to get through them before. They weave in and around the celebrities cars on mopeds and follow them so closely. Of course it’s terrifying.

Before I went to sleep I saw Backgrid’s statement and again, amazed people are taking the paparazzis word for it. Just amazed.

Then why carry on their journey? Go to a hotel.
police - highly trained drivers. Call off their chases if their is risk to the public.

They did go to a police station. Did you expect them to stay there all night? Do you think the paparazzi would leave if they did?

so the paps release a statement and people actually believe them? That’s the plot thickening? What a load of absolute bullshit.

No but it shows there are 2 sides to the story, and the original did have holes in it. Or should we just accept what a wealthy duke and duchess say as fact?

What's the fact that they're wealthy go to do with anything?

No. The hotel would have worked better as it’s legal in New York.

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 18/05/2023 07:43

Well for starters they have a big court case going on in London where exaggerating an incident like this would benefit them. Secondly because they think they can have their cake and eat it. Thirdly because they can pay chauffeurs and a private security detail in blacked out SUVs to drive recklessly, but some pap on foot or a vespa is causing traffic accidents.

Whaeanui · 18/05/2023 07:48

So people are actually blaming them for where they chose to stay. Also not believing them because they’re wealthy and titled. Even though we all know that paparazzi behave horribly to celebrities all the time. Some of you just think they deserve it don’t you? That if you’re famous your life is the publics and if the public want photos of you they’ll support and encourage paps to make your life hell for it. I think that’s the thing. The paps behave this way because its how so many of the public think celebrities deserve to be treated.

You don’t carry on risking people’s lives.
