Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

John Miller former nypd deputy commissioner said exactly what happened, the paps tried to knock over civilians and police in the chase to get to princess Meghan

The paps deliberately tried to run the police and civilians over and they weren't arrested? 🤔

Hell121 · 17/05/2023 20:45

@Mackerson they said it themselves via their spokesman!

bluewanda · 17/05/2023 20:48

I can't make head nor tail of this to be honest. It's bizarre!

Perhaps Harry and Meghan should consider issuing a more detailed statement explaining exactly what happened.

The police were involved and helped escort them.

Meanwhile, New York's mayor Eric Adams has said two police officers could have been injured as they assisted Harry and Meghan's private security team while their car was being followed.

So the former deputy commissioner said they tried to knock over civilians and police and the current deputy commissioner said there was no collisions, no summonses, no injuries and no arrests

Someone needs to get their story straight!

AcrossthePond55 · 17/05/2023 20:49

Do I think the paps were taking pictures? Sure. Do I think they were 'followed'? Probably.

But as far as the 'catastrophic chase' (high speed or otherwise), the 'people almost mowed down' on busy NYC streets? Nah. Once again H&M 'exaggerating the truth' for their own purposes.

Or as the kids say "Pics or it didn't happen".

Hohohogreenjennie · 17/05/2023 20:49

This whole drama is so bizarre!
Is it going to be another case of their truth Vs THE truth?
The accounts just differ too much. Hopefully there’s more clarification.

How sad that people lack the sense to figure out how it could have ended in a catastrophic event. I mean if you look at Sophie nobody is interested in her she isn't even heir to the throne literally nobody cares (no paps chasing her they literally couldnt care less if she disappeared for a decade) and yet enroute to Scotland her entourage still managed to knock the lady over no paps chasing. Compare her to prince Harry and Princess Meghan being chased by the prazzi at every given opportunity just to catch a glimpse and get a pic for her 2nd fanbase( the crazies that hate her and yet always want to catch a glimpse, literally cant start their day without a glimpse of Meghan). It doesn't take a PhD to see how that could have ended catastrophically

In a statement, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the outline of the Sussexes’ account but described it in less colorful language. The NYPD “assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” on Tuesday evening and “there were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging,” said Julian Phillips, the NYPD’s deputy commissioner for public information.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard,” he said.

A local law enforcement source corroborated some of the couple’s account, telling CNN that the couple were followed by a “swarm” of paparazzi in cars, motorcycles, scooters after they left the event on Tuesday. A protective team from the New York Police Department (NYPD) followed Harry and Meghan in another car, and was forced to make some avoiding maneuvers to get away from the paparazzi, the source said.

Paparazzi on scooters and bikes zoomed down the sidewalk to keep up, the source said. There were many close calls, including short stops between front and backs of cars, but none resulted in a crash, the source added.
The couple’s convoy was escorted to a police precinct, where they were able to regroup, the source added.

This gets more and more confusing. So the blacked out cars that were following were the couple own convoy? But someone else on here said.

Harry, Meghan and Ms Ragland were reportedly followed by half a dozen blacked-out vehicles which were being driven by unidentified people.
The vehicles are said to have driven on pavements, jumped red lights and reversed down a one-way street.
It has also been said at least one driver was using their phone behind the wheel.

So if the paps were on scooters and bikes it must have been their own convoy that drove on pavements, etc?

And to top it all off, some bloke was arrested for loitering near their house in the early hours of the morning. Call me cynical but hasn't this all come at the time he was told the security services "were not guns for hire"

Or shot ??

BadNomad · 17/05/2023 20:54

"Near catastrophic chase" doesn't mean the chase was catastrophic. It means the result of it could have been catastrophic. Which is true. Like how in some work places "near misses" are reportable incidents. Even though no one was hurt, people could have been hurt by the incident.

They filmed themselves for two years for their netflix documentary and the only chase they could produce was an unseen bike rider who never took a photo. So where are all these pap chases that happen at every opportunity?

Aside from the fact that there is conveniently somehow never any footage of them being hounded by the press (or credible witnesses), I find it interesting that you refer to the Duchess of Edinburgh as plain Sophie yet Meghan (a non working royal who was only ever entitled to the DoS title, or Princess Henry) is 'Princess Meghan'. 😂😂

BurgerRelish · 17/05/2023 20:57

She ain't a princess.

They have had no incidents since they moved to the US apart from some drones a couple of years ago and then suddenly as his court case is scheduled all this happens. It does smell a bit whiffy!

CathyorClaire · 17/05/2023 20:58

If the car chase was so catastrophic and lasting 2 hours, why is there no footage elsewhere on social media of it? Even in NYC, 6 paparazzi cars screeching through lights and nearly hitting pedestrians would must get filmed by someone?

Posted similar on the deleted (why?) thread.

As I said there maybe no-one in NY has a phone 🤓

Anyways.

I've read, heard and seen enough now to call bullshit on the manufactured Waaahing of the NY leg of the Worldwide Privacy Tour.
