Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Shouldnt those people have been arrested then if they had knowingly, and willingly acted recklessly, endangering innocent people, and the people they were pursuing?

The police would have to witness it then catch them first. One report said the police did try to stop them but they sped off.

If you want to be left alone by the paps then STOP courting them, it is that simple. They keep demanding attention and then saying “oh please leave us alone”. It’s bloody ridiculous. They have (& had) enough ££££ to live perfectly well, they wanted more. More fool them.

This.

stop releasing books, stories, press releases.

Stop accusing people of racism.

Stop doing interviews with your friends who are just using you to validate themselves.

but she’s not like that. She will milk it all and divorce him in the end. Then he will be portrayed as the bad guy.

Surely if there were cars, scooters and everything else involved, there would be lots of mobile phone pictures and videos from pedestrians/tourists/passers by that could be used as evidence.
Or is NYC abandoned at night?

It’s gridlocked at that time. There’s nothing high speed about it

Paloma66 · 17/05/2023 20:35

How come this doesn't happen to other famous Americans? Oprah etc?

BadNomad · 17/05/2023 20:36

So why engage it and out people at risk?

They didn't engage with it. They drove to the police station twice to get help.

They had Netflix filming with them

The recklessness of the people pursuing them. If they had have hit pedestrians or caused a crash on the busy roads, it would have been catastrophic.

And yet NYPD who were on the scene don't seem to have seen anything worthy of an arrest?

Their next series will have some real footage of them being harassed by paps, instead of a random moped driver and some shots of the paps chasing other people... so that's a win.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 17/05/2023 20:38

Really. What happened to "be kind" ? Some really horrid, toxic comments on here. None of you know any of these people. Why so much hate. None of us know exactly what has happened between members of the these families. Does it make you feel better about yourself to post mean, bullying comments like this? Doubt it.

I completely agree. I'm a republican and couldn't care less about the royal family but some of the comments on here are insanely unkind. And the speculation is ridiculous. We know precisely nothing other than what is printed in a reliable source (so not the tabloids or social media then).

Go to a hotel. Walk in like you’re staying. Go out the back door an hour later.
it is not rocket science.
there’s a hotel they stay in often right near.

their security utterly fucked up putting them in a cab. What were they thinking.

they went to an award ceremony knowing they would be papped - arguably that was the purpose of the event.
they knew they would be followed back - it’s what happens to celebs in New York.

have a plan

Stop accusing people of racism.

When they stop being racist.

The taxi driver denies that there was a chase.

Where?

It's been reported on BBC
'Sonny' Singh was driving his yellow taxi through Manhattan on Tuesday night when he picked up an extraordinary fare.
He tells BBC News that a security guard hailed him and "next thing Prince Harry and his wife were hopping into my cab".
He says that as they travelled a block, they "got blocked by a garbage truck and all of a sudden paparazzi came and starting taking pictures".
He said the group, which also included Meghan's mother Doria Ragland, were just about to tell him the location they wanted to be taken to, but then told him to go back to the police station... where he dropped them off.
"They looked nervous, I think they were being chased the whole day or something - but the security guard he was on it," Singh said.
Asked about the description of a "near catastrophic chase" he said "I don't think that's true, I think that's all exaggerated".
He said he didn't feel in danger and that the police weren't following - "they only helped when we were blocked by the trash truck they honked and then they went their way we went our way".

In a statement, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the outline of the Sussexes’ account but described it in less colorful language. The NYPD “assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” on Tuesday evening and “there were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging,” said Julian Phillips, the NYPD’s deputy commissioner for public information.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard,” he said.

A local law enforcement source corroborated some of the couple’s account, telling CNN that the couple were followed by a “swarm” of paparazzi in cars, motorcycles, scooters after they left the event on Tuesday. A protective team from the New York Police Department (NYPD) followed Harry and Meghan in another car, and was forced to make some avoiding maneuvers to get away from the paparazzi, the source said.

Paparazzi on scooters and bikes zoomed down the sidewalk to keep up, the source said. There were many close calls, including short stops between front and backs of cars, but none resulted in a crash, the source added.
The couple’s convoy was escorted to a police precinct, where they were able to regroup, the source added.

There is no point posting this. The posters who really need to read it and give their heads a wobble won't read it or read it properly, and if they do they will dismiss it because they know better and it doesn't fit their narrative of hate.

The both of them will dine out on this for months. Then when people question what happened, they will deny what they said in the statement and blame us for the way we interpreted the statement.

Rinse and repeat with the next drama for the headlines and £

Hmm, after all, did Meghan ever actually say they were in danger? It's the British media that said it. 🙄

It apparently does. It’s not illegal over there like here

Pegsandsunshine · 17/05/2023 20:40

I can smell another Netflix documentary coming and an Oprah interview.

MargaretThursday · 17/05/2023 20:40

The story reminds me of one which happened near where I grew up.

Two people trespassed on a secure site and were caught vandalising equipment in the back of a van. Rather foolishly, the security guards chose to close the back door of the van and drive it out of the complex and drop them at a pub. This was mid afternoon on a summer's weekend day.

The story in the local paper in their words said approximately:
"We were driven at reckless speed for nearly an hour before we were left at the Hare and Hounds, in the middle of nowhere and it took us until it was nearly dark to walk back across remote farmland."

Reality was that the pub was at the edge of the village, not more than 10 minutes slow walk away (and CCTV showed the van went straight there) and the road there was clearly signposted to get either back to the secure site or to the train station (about 15 minute walk) if they'd not wanted to go back to the complex.

They are making a fuss over nothing. Probably fed up with all the positive press his brother and wife is getting

He's got two court cases where he claims he's in danger. He needs to be an IPP for his own safety. Or, the more cynical might say, to avoid any liability when he kills someone while high on the drugs he boasts about taking.

Fluffyrug191 · 17/05/2023 20:43

Load of bollocks probably.

RoseLee04 · 17/05/2023 20:45

It's somewhat sad when I realise that all I feel on hearing this news is a kind of cynical disinterest.

Completely unrelated to this incident, obviously.
also, unrelated to the backgrid element as well

WheresSpring · 17/05/2023 20:45

So neither the NYPD or the actual taxi driver involved in chauffeuring them are reliable sources? (who both said it was no biggie to paraphrase…)
