Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

They were being followed by the paparazzi. Which I presume is annoying and inconvenient.

But if you don't want to be followed by the paparazzi don't make netflix documentaries about yourself, don't go on Oprah to talk about yourself, don't sell a book with intimate details about your life, don't go to glitzy award ceremonies in New York.

Instead live a quiet life where pics of you at the supermarket occasionally will soon become boring to the paps.

These two want to control everything. Look at me Now. But not Now (literally 5 mins later).

They really are their SoutPark caricatures. They might as well have been holding 'Stop Looking At Us' 'We want Privacy' signs.

This. Well expressed.

The paparazzi are scum, and they shouldn't have followed them. It's disgraceful behaviour.

Harry & Meghan should not exaggerate what actually happened. All that has happened is they get more press.

If he's done this to garner sympathy and to create an issue due to his current court case, then that's stupid and has completely backfired on him.

Both NYPD and the Mayor haven't backed them up.

He is obviously deeply traumatised by what happened to his mother and he needs help IMO. It's clouding his judgment.

But do you not understand that even if they have exaggerated, that is nothing, a mere footnote, compared to following someone around the streets in a dangerous and reckless manner to take their photograph through a car window?

You’ve written five paragraphs, one is about the paps’ behaviour and the other four are about H&M’s behaviour. It should be the other way round.

MrsFinkelstein · 17/05/2023 19:18

If the paps had been driving dangerously then they would have been arrested for this.

No - I’d drive to the nearest police station, calling them en route to say I was afraid for my life and that of multiple others as I was being pursued by unknown assailants in a near-catastrophic manner.

which is what the bloody did.

I HATE to tell you this but you just APPPROVED OF WHAT THEY DID.

Sit down, take a deep breath, it is not an easy moment I know.

So now @SirChenjins - what next?

😁

The CNN piece said the paps were the ones on the sidewalks etc recklessly all over the place. I don't think it was a "high speed" chase, just a long chase, where they couldn't shake them off. But it seems if there was a collision it would have been one of the paps crashing into someone.

So basically they were in a car and the paps were on the pavement and the car drove so slowly, the paps could keep up with them on foot. The paps occasionally bumped into each. And that went on for 2 hours.

MmaRra · 17/05/2023 19:18

The Daily Mail and Express got those pap photos - now deleted - very quickly. Anybody would think they had commissioned them.

Because their behaviour added to the situation and escalated it.

They should have stayed in their secure vehicle (with darkened windows so no photos) and driven safely and directly to their destination.

As every other A list celeb that lives in NYC does daily.

CatAndHisKit · 17/05/2023 19:20

Why not jut stop the car ad call the police - and have tinted windows in the car. Annoying but better than the chase and risking your lives!

user01082312345 · 17/05/2023 19:20

This sounds a lot like when Meghan spoke on her podcast about the fire that started in her son Archie's room during their trip to South Africa. It sounded dramatic, but turns out the heater just smoked slightly after being turned on, and Archie was not even present at the time. Meghan loves the attention she gets from embellishing stories which make it look as if she is the victim. Very Amber Heardish!

No, they said they were on motorcyles and scooters and cars. Not on foot. I'd link the video if I could find it again.

And not doing that is completely on their Security detail.

There is protocols to follow, none appear to have been.

Mackerson · 17/05/2023 19:10

Apparently not for 2 hours.

Sorry @Mackerson I was not clear.

It took them two hours to get home.

They drove off, were followed, pulled into a police station, waited a bit, left and tried again, did not work, went to another station, tried the diversion with the cab, eventually got home.

More fits and starts than fast and furious.

AFAIK TMZ had them at the same time.

I think they were just hawked round all the tabloids. The usual scum picked them up quickly.

The paps know who to offer them to first.

No one is saying that they were wrong to go to a police station if that's what they did. Its just that they should have done it straightaway rather than keep driving round for over 2 hours contributing, as they describe, to multiple near collisions.

I know you were really hoping for a gotcha moment there and were getting all excited with all your CAPITAL LETTERS, but I was a)responding to the person who said “If I was being followed by some random person/people I absolutely would not just pull over, especially in America.
I suggest you shouldn’t do the same either” and b)didn’t express my disapproval of H&M’s actions at any point.

What next? I’ll probably just finish my cup of tea while idly scrolling through MN.

tailinthejam · 17/05/2023 19:25

"I don't think I would call it a chase"

...says the cab driver. 😂

Billyoh · 17/05/2023 19:25

MsWhitworth · 17/05/2023 19:06

Yep, all their fault. They should have done this, or that, or the other. Why wouldn’t you? What’s wrong with them?

Hang on.

Where’s the criticism of the photographers following them in the first place?

I’ll assume H &M are lying, until it can be proved they’re not.

A lot of posters on this thread seem to be following a specific script.

It didn't happened.
If it happened it wasn't that bad.
If it was bad , you deserved it.
But it didn't happen.

You can figure out what you sound like.

Isn't that like saying 'baby calf' 😂

Hammerhouseofhorrors · 17/05/2023 19:27

What bollocks.
Im an ex New Yorker.
You couldn’t do a high speed chase on a bicycle let alone a car.
2 hours! What were they doing, crawling around the same intersections over and over again.
You can’t move for traffic, lights etc.
The police, NYC mayor and locals all agree it’s just not possible to do a high speed chase in NYC. This is not the M25

NeverEverMore · 17/05/2023 19:28

NYPD statement:

Julian Phillips, the deputy commissioner of the New York Police Department, has said officers "assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex". He continued: "There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard."

Sounds like a factual and calm clarification. The Sussexes do not realise just how many toes they're stepping on, this must have pissed NYPD off.

Catherine will be Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms while Meghan will remain drama queen of Montecito. It's sad, I feel sorry for the Sussexes as they are really not helping themselves. I'd expect teenagers to act this way, not 41 and 38 year olds.

7eleven · 17/05/2023 19:29

I wonder how they’ll manage to make it all his family’s fault? 🙄

I don't dispute that the paps behave in an awful way and it must be very disturbing to be followed by them.

But seriously their "spokesperson" really needs to get a grip on reality here. This has done no favours to their cause whatsoever. It's just backfired spectacularly and it was so unnecessary in the first place to put out the ridiculous statement that has been thoroughly contradicted.

Yes I think it could have been handled much better by their spokesperson
