Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

They’ve come unstuck! NYPD’s statement says it all

There are literally pictures of them not wearing seatbelts (and smiling, which is kind of weird when they were in a “catastrophic” situation)

You'd think they'd realise they need their seatbelts on, if for no other reason than that's what everyone will notice in the photos.

Harry and Meghan and Doria car accident?

HNRTFT but my immediate concern is that Hand M should have told the driver to slow down...if this report is true!Would rather have pic taken than be dead.

4plusthehound · 17/05/2023 18:34

If you watch the TMZ footage to the end the paps filming that particular bit are definitely English.

Wonder why British paps were there?

sparklefresh · 17/05/2023 18:35

'He wanted the RF to put out a statement to tell the media to back off with their racist reporting of Meghan, but they didn't'

Personally, I'm glad that the RF don't have the power to tell the media what they are and aren't allowed to say - not that racism is ever ok, but a free press is vital.

sparklefresh · 17/05/2023 18:36

And does anyone really think the press would have backed off if the RF had said hey, don't be mean to Meghan? Course they wouldn't.

Prescottdanni123 · 17/05/2023 18:37

An American policeman saying is saying he highly doubts it went on for two hours.

It seems a bit of a coincidence that all of this has happened during Harry's court case over getting British police as security

There isn't one.

Says it all.

MrsFinkelstein · 17/05/2023 18:39

NY Mayor saus he sympathises with them considering what happened to his mum, but says he doubts it went on 2hrs and wouldn't have been high speed.

Also, it now seems the "chase" was them driving up & down FDR Drive not wanting to get pictured going into whatever NYC apartment block they were staying at.

MrsFinkelstein · 17/05/2023 18:40

Official NYPD statement

Julian Phillips, the deputy commissioner of the New York Police Department, has said officers "assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex".
He continued: "There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard."

tigger2022 · 17/05/2023 18:42

I thought the photographers were really intrusive, it can’t have been nice, but they are so prone to over-exaggeration

UndercoverCop · 17/05/2023 18:42

Why did they leave from the front entrance if they wanted a unnoticed exit?
You can't court the media, the queen was right don't complain, don't explain, essentially be boring and they've nothing to photograph. Media coverage will never be on the terms of those covered, surely Harry of all people should realise that by now.
Kate drives around London on her own and doesn't get hounded. The odd picture of her driving but nothing more. To be chased you have to run away.

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 17/05/2023 18:42

Personally, I'm glad that the RF don't have the power to tell the media what they are and aren't allowed to say

Oh how naive you are!

But they can - and have in the past - put out a statement, when it suits them. That's all they had to do, even just once, it would have made Harry feel more supported and less on his own.

tailinthejam · 17/05/2023 18:42

Florissante · 17/05/2023 18:20

Why did they not put them in a police car? I'm sure the NYPD has plenty.

Because the police are not chauffeurs.

Exactly. If the police had thought that such high-profile people were at genuine risk they would have protected them from harm. They weren't, so they didn't.

Paloma66 · 17/05/2023 18:43

The key word is 'near'. Harry wants us, the UK taxpayer to pay for his security. He believes he's entitled to it, yet he and his wife don't want to do any Royal duties in return. I doubt it was as described, and if it was then the NYPD are shockingly poor. This wouldn't have happened in the UK where he had police protection. But he can't have it both ways.

TimsNanna · 17/05/2023 18:44

Wouldn’t you just head to a police station for help. Just why would you let this get to the extent it was a two hour car chase?

ohnonowwhat · 17/05/2023 18:44

None of this makes sense! They were in a car with blacked out windows and worried about someone taking their picture so got out of that car and into one without blackout windows... Presumably the paps conveniently looked the other way when they stopped to do this and waited for them to drive off again to resume the desperate hunt? How can there be a two hour car chase in Manhattan, do they mean they were stuck in traffic and some paps were stuck in traffic behind them for two hours, I'm not sure that can be described as a car chase actually - and why didn't the paps just get out of their car, walk to H&M's car, take the photo and then go and sit down? Maybe they did, but they then obviously stayed in 'hot pursuit' and just refused to leave them alone - as it was a bloody traffic jam and so had no choice but to follow them! And if H&M were really worried about them finding out where they were staying, why not pull into a hotel and then ask to hide out while suitably inconspicuous transport is arranged for the onward journey in case the paps don't believe it's where they're staying - pretty sure most 'celebrity' hotels in NYC could do this with their eyes closed! And most bizarre of all - how the fuck can it be said to be 'near catastrophic', what 'catastrophe' might have occurred when crawling slowly through traffic? I suppose a small child might've run out and been hit while the pap was too focussed on getting pics to notice, but they didn't! Surely on this basis absolutely anything could be described as near-catastrophic: I had a near-catastrophic trip to Tesco earlier, there were all these other cars in the carpark and any one of them might've reversed out without looking and run me over 😱 They didn't... but it so easily could have been a fatal collision! What is wrong with this ridiculous pair?!! And they can't even blame the evil press for making stuff up to make them look bad if it's come from their own bloody spokesperson 😂😂

UndercoverCop · 17/05/2023 18:44

It's not nice being the focus of media coverage but he's reaped the benefits of his position, this is the downside and he's more than willing to be on camera when he wants to get the media attention he wants. It just doesn't work like that in reality.

EpicChaos · 17/05/2023 18:44

@MrsFinkelstein " Apparently they were driving up and down FDR drive for most of the time as they didn't want paps to know where they were staying. "

Did they, perchance, have cardboard signs hanging out of the car windows
saying " We want our privasaaaaay! " ??? 🤔 😏

Ninjama1 · 17/05/2023 18:44

First person to report was Scobie? 😂 No one else in NYC saw anything?

Strawberries007 · 17/05/2023 18:44

A stalker broke into their home the day before. British paps and their agents are always ready to break in and harass H&M's neighbours for access. They didn't want any of the 6 cars following them to know where they were staying. There was more than enough opportunity for any reasonable photographer to get photos from the night.

Ask any celeb you know; any photographer who proceeds to tail you home after an event is never up to any good and it is your duty not to expose your friend's homes or neighbours to intrusion as far you're aware of the potential.

How do we never hear about this happening to other people?

TimsNanna · 17/05/2023 18:46

What an embarrassment they are to themselves.

shammalammadingdong · 17/05/2023 18:46

This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers."

Doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. You can only be chased if you keep letting them. Just drive to a police station, a garage, pull over and call the cops.....you don't drive around like crazy people for 2 hours causing mayhem! WTF?
