Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Not an accident, a 'nearly' accident.

I nearly won the lottery but I was a number out. On the way back, I nearly twisted my ankle but luckily I saw the kerb before I did.

viques · 17/05/2023 17:56

One thing the car incident will do is divert attention away from how this supposedly earth conscious couple and her mum added to their carbon footprint by flying to NY when they could have done the whole thing virtually like lots of award shows are done these days. And yes, I know if you borrow your friends private jet the carbon footprint somehow doesn’t count……

Bbc news reporting NYPD say no collisions, injuries or arrests in alleged chase
We've just received a statement from the New York Police Department.
It says:" The NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard."

Watchkeys · 17/05/2023 17:57

@Freeballing I agree. If they'd been chased by motorcyclists with guns, it would make sense to try to get away but there's no hint of that.

If I get chased by someone who is trying to take photos of me, I'll just keep driving. If they start driving like idiots, I'll pull over, and if they keep photographing me, I'll put my hood up. It's still illegal for me to break driving regulations in that situation. I can't imagine that these 'assailants' were driving so recklessly at 20mph, so if there was a chase, there must have been someone at the front 'running away' at a reckless speed. There would be no need for the assailants to mount kerbs and nearly have catastrophic accidents if there was no speed.

Why didn't they just stop driving and let their tinted windows be photographed?

Hmmm - so who do we believe?

personally, I reckon the NYPD statement, given that nothing was reported at the time.

So nothing happened then. Pathetic and also grotesque considering what happened to Diana.

That statement says a lot by not saying very much at all.🙂

Tillyteacup · 17/05/2023 17:59

Don’t believe a word of it. They led the paps a merry dance as they didn’t want them to see where they were staying it wasn’t as dramatic as they are making out.

TripleDaisySummer · 17/05/2023 17:59

I heard similar on Radio 4 to FangedFrisbee - but it's on the website now as well:

The NYPD had 9/11 to deal with. That was catastrophic.

To call this shenanigans 'near catastrophic' is beyond absurd.

I think that poster meant 'in the USA he's the most popular royal' - which is slightly different.

Given how hard the US worked to rid itself of our monarchy and how irrelevant it is to them....slow clap for hazza 😂

TheHandmaiden · 17/05/2023 18:02

How very convenient

Throwncrumbs · 17/05/2023 18:02

Oh dear, thought they had escaped to the US to get away from the awful paps that chased them in the UK 😂

GeriKellmansUpdo · 17/05/2023 18:02

This pair either need a lot more therapy, or a lot less.

It's all well and good the Royal family striding around with big smiles plastered on their faces announcing they are serious supporters of mental health, bullying and anti racist charities and groups while at the same time completely ignoring the terrible treatment Harry and Meghan got

So agree with this. Harry's been left high and dry by his horrible family to cope with things by himself.

Soooo.... nothing to do with all the horrible things he's divulged about his "horrible family" then...

Badgeringabout · 17/05/2023 18:03

I think that they are probably unwell at this point. Best thing to do would be to ignore them both - press attention fuels their illness/narcissism.

The issue was taxation without representation, not the monarchy.

'They must just drive slowly '. Erm yes, so the driver gets blinded by the flashes. That's what happened to his mom.

'It was the US paps' - it was the Daily Mail that published the photos first, then later deleted them.

They took pics all and well for the occasion. Some greedy pap wanted more.

the80sweregreat · 17/05/2023 18:07

It's news now on the DM website
Not top billing though

I'm still wondering how they could be chased in a city with so many traffic jams??? I'm assuming their chauffeur didn't break the law as they are so perfect! Why not allow a couple of photos tgen the paps would push off, they must have thought there was something worth running from!

They want the money first before allowing photos to be taken.

His mother was in a speeding car driven by a drunk and did not wear her seat belt.

That's what happened.

So if that's reputable, how does it stack up with a "near catastrophe"?

These people really don't do themselves any favours ... and still no confirmation of who the "spokesperson" actually was

Why did they not put them in a police car? I'm sure the NYPD has plenty.

I have no idea!

As well as a rubbish therapist Harry has rubbish security.
