Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Don’t care to be honest

Also watched this on skynews and call bullshit. its all about making sure he gets guards when he comes to the uk. he is a private citizen now so like the rest of us, if he wants it, he needs to organise and pay for it. I hope when he is my age that he looks back on this and cringes. why didnt one of the cars just drive to a police station or dont they have any of these in New york. I bet he has lots of pics of it all unfolding.

Agree! Spot on

2 hour chase in Manhattan ! My arse. If you dine with the devil, you better have a long spoon.

LadyatLady · 17/05/2023 17:40

Why would you risk all these lives running away from the press? Just stop and tell them to leave you alone. It’s bizarre they need the press but then they don’t want the press around?

I don't understand this, why would you rather undertake a high speed car chase than have your picture taken? I get you might not want to be papped but surely it's better to be alive?! Also what about the risk to others with a car chase?
Not absolving paps -scum of the earth, but he is all people skills have learned how to react in these situations?
Also I think the decision to move to the US was not a good one, this wouldn't been highly unlikely in the UK with royal protection etc

I think this is likely one of those 'have to experience it for yourself' concepts. I'd imagine the relentless baying for blood and piece of flesh means there is no safe way or safe choice or better alternative here, although most of us won't know what that feels like. It's how Harry's mum died after all, being hounded in a car. It is disturbing.

When you are that relentlessly hounded, perhaps it is impossible to eventually survive it. Sick society we live in.

Apparently the NYPD put them in a yellow cab to put the paps off the scent. Why would they put them in an identical black SUV?

Agree with you on the security though..

Why did they not put them in a police car? I'm sure the NYPD has plenty.

I think this is why those decisions are usually left with trained security professionals. They have the skills, training and emotional detachment to take charge in stressful situations

Security who, in this case, seem to have messed up considerably.

Bellagio40 · 17/05/2023 17:43

I just don’t believe it. A two hour chase through Manhattan would have a huge amount of witnesses. I look forward to hearing from them

WheresSpring · 17/05/2023 17:44

IF(!!!!!!) this had been a genuine car chase lasting 2 hours it would have been all over livestream. No injuries. No collisions. Whilst I’m sorry that they have found themselves in a position in which they did not feel safe I’m afraid I think the narrative they’re spinning is not entirely truthful.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 17/05/2023 17:44

Two New York police officials have said they do not believe the chase was "near catastrophic" and described a "bit of a chaotic scene" as the Sussexes tried to get back to their residence without being followed

Enoughisenouff · 17/05/2023 17:45

The boy that cried wolf … we all know the story

A law enforcement source told CNN that paparazzi followed Meghan and Harry in cars, motorcycles and scooters and that an NYPD protective team had to take evasive action at times.

I have to wonder or what? They had to take evasive action or what? Like what would have happened? The paps would have gotten a photo? The whole thing just seems so silly. A car chase so the paps wouldn't see them arriving at their destination and take a photo. Surely they were in a car with black out windows so you just drive where you are going and ignore the paps.

And how many royals are there in the USA?

I think that poster meant 'in the USA he's the most popular royal' - which is slightly different.

gogohmm · 17/05/2023 17:47

I'm still wondering how they could be chased in a city with so many traffic jams??? I'm assuming their chauffeur didn't break the law as they are so perfect! Why not allow a couple of photos tgen the paps would push off, they must have thought there was something worth running from!

tailinthejam · 17/05/2023 17:47

ilovebrie8 · 17/05/2023 17:35

It was on Sky news earlier they had obviously spoken to someone at NYPD and the words used were that NYPD said it wasn’t catastrophic....that’s what was said on Sky.

Perhaps the NYPD's interpretation of the word 'catastrophic' is somewhat different, considering what they have had to deal with in the past.

Sorry that was from sky news.

Prince Harry and Meghan involved in 'near catastrophic car chase with paparazzi' across New York

Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and her mother were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase after being followed by paparazzi, according to his spokesperson.

I think it’s a storm in a teacup by them! Doesn’t make sense

Florissante · 17/05/2023 17:50

The Canadians weren't and the Americans aren't interested in funding H & M's private security. Hence, Harry's ongoing lawsuit in the UK about being Internationally Protected Persons (so the host countries will pick up the security bill, which is millions of pounds a year).

ZeroFuchsGiven · 17/05/2023 17:51

I mean how dramatic were they on the netflix thing saying they were getting chased? I watched and rewatched and literally seen nothing.

SunnySaturdayMorning · 17/05/2023 17:52

So… nothing happened then?

Pretty much 😂

Freefall212 · 17/05/2023 17:54

SunnySaturdayMorning · 17/05/2023 17:52

So… nothing happened then?

Nothing happened. They were papped in traffic and didn't want paps to know where they were staying, according to NYPD they made it to their residence without incident. NYPD statement said "numerous photographers "made their [Harry and Meghan's] transport challenging."

The USA being what it is, chances are most of the population wouldn't have heard of the rest of them anyway.
