Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Apparently the NYPD put them in a yellow cab to put the paps off the scent.

So they are inept too then?

frankgu · 17/05/2023 17:21

Yes, it was the sensible thing to do, but it doesn't seem to have worked as the paps didn't back off once they had done that.

It's really common for paps not to back off...

AutumnCrow · 17/05/2023 17:15

Were they really not wearing seat belts?

Apparently common sense isn't their strong point and Harry learned nothing from his mothers death.

musixa · 17/05/2023 17:22

History repeating itself. Thank goodness they didn't suffer the same fate as Diana and her fellow passengers.

WestSouthWest · 17/05/2023 17:22

Why would the NYPD put them in a yellow cab and not escort them to safety?

Whaeanui · 17/05/2023 17:22

4plusthehound · 17/05/2023 17:19

Absof&^%glutely.

SHOCKING

Yeah and it’s not at all surprising and that is why the press get away with everything they do. It’s the public that’s the problem.

frankgu · 17/05/2023 17:17

Just been on Sky news that the NYPD are saying it was not near catastrophic! They said it was chaotic but not near catastrophic

So it did actually happen then cause lots of the posters on this thread thought the whole thing was BS?

I don't think there is a statement yet from NYPD

sheworemellowyellow · 17/05/2023 17:23

I am far from being a fan of either Meghan or Harry, but this whole situation - whatever happened, the statement, all of it - is unsettling. Harry isn’t in control of his faculties, and he seems to have nobody looking out for him. Gives one a sense of foreboding.

frankgu · 17/05/2023 17:25

@Freefall212 so Sky are misquoting the police?

AutumnCrow · 17/05/2023 17:27

I am very willing to condemn the paparazzi in the USA.

justasking111 · 17/05/2023 17:28

Harry will be dramatic about this because of the history. The police will play it down because of perceived ineptitude.

Who knows. BUT the paps really are scum.

spuddel · 17/05/2023 16:05

Not buying this.

Nope. Not for one second. They need stuff for Netflix.

Whaeanui · 17/05/2023 17:29

A law enforcement source told CNN that paparazzi followed Meghan and Harry in cars, motorcycles and scooters and that an NYPD protective team had to take evasive action at times.

frankgu · 17/05/2023 17:25

@Freefall212 so Sky are misquoting the police?

They have have called NYPD and are sharing their interpretation of what whomever they spoke to told them. I don't think NYPD have released anything yet or given any quotes.

UniversalAunt · 17/05/2023 17:32

Just been listening to Vanessa Feltz on her drive time radio show discussing these reports with the in-house royal correspondent.

Very cautious reportage as NYPD have not yet confirmed factual details of the incidents, & some images posted online earlier have now been taken down. The tone is light & gently sceptical.

Ms Feltz’s comments on ‘playing possum’ i.e. to stay still, to not run away thus starting up the chase, particularly as the papps appeared after a public event with a formal photo call, were interesting. Seemingly she is just short of calling the Sussexes out particularly with the cases going through the UK High Courts.

She reasons that if Diana died as a result of a high speed chase - drunk driver & not wearing a seat belt as major causes enough for mere mortals to die in a road traffic accident - then the imperative for greater safety is not to drive away at high speed in an urban environment.

That & not telling all & sundry where you will be found at public events might help.

Lipreading Harry on live global broadcast when he told the world which commercial flight he would be on straight after the Coronation service.

Blueisthecolour1 · 17/05/2023 17:33

Hmmmm Netflix material

Wonnle · 17/05/2023 17:33

And the hype machine continues to turn out shite about a couple who want to be left alone but appear in public at every given opportunity and lap it all up !

2 hour car chase MY ARSE !

tailinthejam · 17/05/2023 17:34

"His father choose to have his coronation on the birthday of the grandson he excluded from his coronation."

No he didn't, he chose to have his coronation on the anniversary of the death of King Edward VII and the accession to the throne of King George V.

According to the polls he is the most popular royal in the USA.

And how many royals are there in the USA?

ilovebrie8 · 17/05/2023 17:35

It was on Sky news earlier they had obviously spoken to someone at NYPD and the words used were that NYPD said it wasn’t catastrophic....that’s what was said on Sky.

mummymeister · 17/05/2023 17:38

Also watched this on skynews and call bullshit. its all about making sure he gets guards when he comes to the uk. he is a private citizen now so like the rest of us, if he wants it, he needs to organise and pay for it. I hope when he is my age that he looks back on this and cringes. why didnt one of the cars just drive to a police station or dont they have any of these in New york. I bet he has lots of pics of it all unfolding.

sparklefresh · 17/05/2023 17:39

The South Africa 'fire' that was a bit of smoke from a heater, now the 'catastrophic' car chase that no one has any footage of and that caused no harm anyone. Drama does seem to follow these two around.

Watchkeys · 17/05/2023 17:39

4plusthehound · 17/05/2023 15:54

Why would you stop the car?

How do you know EXACTLY who is in the chasing car?

How do you know EXACTLY what is in the chasing car?

So, professional security's response to a dangerous chase is 'RUUUUNN!!!'?
