Just heard on BBC news a reporter said one reason is that she has shown zero remorse and spoke exactly like other extremists - still. Whilst it us unfortunate fir her...
I think it's the right decision given the circumstances....what are your thoughts?

Right decision. Pp said she can't show remorse in the camp...Maybe not but she can show it to reporters. She isn't sorry. Also, she claims she has 3 dead children. Allegedly. Nobody ever saw those children. If they had tragically all died very young, wouldn't she be distraught?

Ffs.

So because she hasn’t set up a Facebook page for each dead child complete with teddy bear and heart emojis you say they never existed? She also had two miscarriages , shame she didn’t manage to FaceTime them.

mumoffourminimes · 22/02/2023 10:31

She's in a camp surrounded by violent extremists, it's not safe for her to display remorse.

Wrong decision imo. She was groomed and sexually exploited. She was a child.

I agree withwas this, and I think the wrong decision has been reached here.

She was a child at 15. She should be allowed to come back, even though it would mean constant monitoring of her for a long time.

It is a deeply alarming development for any of us with a parent born in another country. We are apparently second class citizens. Shamima Begum didn't even have dual nationality - she just arguably had the right to apply for it if she wanted to. Therefore they have made her stateless. This is illegal under international law.

Anyone with a foreign parent could now theoretically have their nationality stripped. My dad was born in India. My partner's dad was born in Ukraine. Neither of us have ever been to those countries and we have no links to them other than heritage.

Jack Letts, then. You might argue that because of this, the ruling is xenophobic rather than racist. Maybe so. But I would say a) that's not good either b) if this course of action would disproportionately disadvantage non-white people, it's likely to also be racist and c) the Tories must have been thrilled when they found out Jack Letts had dual nationality with Canada so they could legitimise it by applying it to a white person too.

I am not saying Shamima Begum shouldn't be arrested at the airport. But the woman is from London. Someone like Myra Hindley was British and it was absolutely right that she faced her trial and imprisonment here. We should deal with our own citizens.

People who want her to come back here and face justice …

  1. British justice is pretty much non existent - She’d probably get 18 months if that and then they’d say it wasn’t safe for her to go to prison

  2. if she did go to prison, she’d probably end up dead anyway

Neither of those things are a reason for the U.K. to just dump her on another country.

QueefQueen80s · 22/02/2023 12:49

You'd think she'd make the effort to fake remorse if she wanted to come back here so badly. But she can't even be bothered to do that.

RadioactiveWear · 22/02/2023 12:50

It is a tough one. She is our problem, but if she comes back here she will be swept up by loads of do-good agencies, she will be given a platform and never face justice. Also, plenty of crazies here will worship her and see her as a role model.

Our responsibility - yes
Am I glad she is not coming back - yes, phew

Fifteen is not a little child.
Most young people of that age do grasp right and wrong. Most young people that age are scared or at least wary of Terrorists/terrorism. When the London bombs took place my dc were young and my eldest was frightened. When the Manchester bombing took place they were teens and early 20's and still very worried as were their friends especially as one was regularly going to concerts by then.

Sick of this excuse of her just being a child.
Serial killers were once 'just children' hacking animals to bits before they moved on to people.
Jamie Bulger and others were murdered by 'just children'.
Everyone has excuses for why they do stuff, usually blaming someone else. Begum is no different it's all about how she was groomed. She takes no responsibility for any of it imo.

It suggests to me she doesn't have the capacity to fake remorse as this would clearly be the best option.

I doubt, given the conditions she's living in, it's 'not being bothered'.

What she did is despicable but why should Syria have to deal with her? She was 15 when she left the UK, as a country we should bear the responsibility.

Well if your planning to go join a terrorist group to fight against the country....

Otherwise you're just being dramatic.

And this is coming from someone who has parents who were born in another country.

FoxFeatures · 22/02/2023 10:29

She was 15 and groomed. She was a child.

Whilst I deplore her actions as strongly as everyone else, I can't separate her legal status as a child, from her actions.

Yes there needs to be a legal case for her to answer, but it needs to be done here. Removing someone's citizenship is the thin end of the wedge.

Also, as she is a woman she wasn't an active fighter. She was just used to produce future fighters.
At the same time we don't talk about British men who went there and did commit all sorts of violence.
She should face British courts and British public. She did betrayed this country not Bangladesh. However, I think it is symptomatic we are getting worked up about her and men are not the topic.

Was going to say, no one makes excuses for Jamie Bulger's killers (and nor should they).

whynotwhatknot · 22/02/2023 12:56

why would anyone belive her if shes not remoseful she would be begging for figiveness if she was realy groomed

she agreed with the manchster attacks as an adult

" So because she hasn’t set up a Facebook page for each dead child complete with teddy bear and heart emojis you say they never existed? She also had two miscarriages , shame she didn’t manage to FaceTime them. "

What a horrendous comment and so disrespectful to people who have lost babies & children.

TiredandLate · 22/02/2023 12:59

I don't know the ins and outs, but if she is currently living with other active ISIS members, as pp say, why would ISIS not kill her? Is she not important to them/they don't believe she can give the UK any valuable information so not worth killing, or do they keep her alive in the hope she is returned to the UK and that would be useful to them? Or something else?

ChilliBandit · 22/02/2023 12:59

Its not as simple as saying she
knows killing people is wrong at 15. Of course we all know that at a basic level, but if you have been radicalised into thinking targets are legitimate it’s not so black and white. A 16 yr old British soldier kills people that our government has sanctioned as legitimate for example.

Jowak1 · 22/02/2023 13:00

@Zipps well said agree with everything you have said

MarigoldFeatherstone · 22/02/2023 13:00

Good Decision.
Any others dangerous people to deal with?

Almost as disrespectful as implying that someone is lying about their miscarriages and dead babies?

I didn’t actually mean to imply disrespect to people who have lost children, but I was angry at the implication that SB would only be believed if she provided proof of her losses, which I imagine is pretty hard to do in a war zone.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/02/2023 13:01

Victim hood has HUGE collateral in todays society

Yep - and the enablers will be along right on cue to say she only lacks remorse because she's "traumatised" Hmm

What they miss is that the safety of the vast majority stands above concern for someone like this, so it's the right decision

I see what you're saying but lots of people who commit murder truly believe their victims are deserving, we don't make excuses for them.

Agree with your point completely. Dehumanising Shamima Begum is a dangerous mentality. We should not be able to pick who has human rights and who doesn’t based on whether we like them or not.

AllOfThemWitches · 22/02/2023 13:03

Sorry, are we supposed to blindly believe terrorists now?

We don’t know that she has committed murder, just that she isn’t remorseful for being part of an organisation that did.

AlwaysLatte · 22/02/2023 13:05

I was hoping she would win this appeal and have very strict controls and surveillance here while reintegrating. She was only a child and heavily influenced by an adult man.

Isahlo · 22/02/2023 13:05

its horrendous
she was 15
she was groomed
the only other place she can go is a country that will likely kill her for her crimes.
