Just heard on BBC news a reporter said one reason is that she has shown zero remorse and spoke exactly like other extremists - still. Whilst it us unfortunate fir her...
I think it's the right decision given the circumstances....what are your thoughts?

@User98866 I agree. It was total political cowardice.

ididntwanttodoit · 22/02/2023 12:31

We should be ashamed of ourselves for making her stateless. She was a child who was groomed. I don't honestly think she would have been treated this way if she was white.

I think it's disgusting that we are responsible for raising this woman, whatever her actions, and now wash out hands of her and make her someone else's problem.

I agree with this ^ It seems so bizarre we could just say, 'we don't want her now'. There are loads of criminals we'd rather not have, why is she special. I can only think race, religion, culture and sex.

I also think she is weird but I wonder whether this is because of the people she's surrounded by and the grooming/environment from 15 years of age.

I’ve been listening to the ‘I’m not a monster’ podcast about her. It’s absolutely tragic. She was a victim, she was a child. She should be treated the same way as we would treat others who were groomed and joined an abusive cult. It’s disgusting the way we’ve turned our backs. The same people who are no doubt outraged about the Rotherham grooming gangs for some reason have no compassion for Shamima. Wonder why that could be?

If you’re going to draw that parallel, then Begum would be one of the female groomers in the gang, not a victim turned into a sex slave.

Totally agree.

Bbq1 · 22/02/2023 12:32

Right decision. Pp said she can't show remorse in the camp...Maybe not but she can show it to reporters. She isn't sorry. Also, she claims she has 3 dead children. Allegedly. Nobody ever saw those children. If they had tragically all died very young, wouldn't she be distraught?

The people making these decision have far far far more evidence and statements and no doubt have reports and intelligence from antiterrorist services, security services like MI5 and the like.

To make a decision based purely on emotion and what's in the newspaper's would be a mistake.
Let those who have a better grasp of the full picture decide.

dimorphism · 22/02/2023 12:34

I agree she shows no obvious remorse which is odd because I'd expect if she were a clever terrorist she'd fake remorse in order to get what she wanted.

I suspect she's numb from PTSD. I think she should be in jail in the UK for her crimes, not left stateless. She was a child when she left the UK.

dimorphism · 22/02/2023 12:36

I also don't believe that those in charge wouldn't make the wrong decision in order to send a political message - making her a scapegoat. To some extent, yes, she's brought this on herself, but the critical decision was made aged 15.

Cakemonger · 22/02/2023 12:36

@Bbq1 Severe trauma makes you numb and unable to express emotion in a normal way.

🙄

You were wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

AllOfThemWitches · 22/02/2023 12:37

Good. Evil little shit.

Dropzonefourpleaseben · 22/02/2023 12:38

I was of the opinion that she should be allowed back until I heard someone on the radio (can’t recall who it was) saying if the public knew exactly what Shamima Begum had done, no one would want her back in the UK. Presumably, this is why the case was heard in a semi secret court.

She's just really thick.

SoupDragon · 22/02/2023 12:39

I bet people would be up in arms if another country had dumped a terrorist on us like this.

CloudPop · 22/02/2023 12:39

Rocket1982 · 22/02/2023 10:38

IMO it's the wrong decision but the reason has nothing to do with Shamina Begum or her individual case. The reason it is a wrong decision is that the UK have made one of their own citizens a stateless refugee and have made her somebody else's problem. She was born, brought up and radicalised in the UK and we need to take responsibility for our own citizens and not leave them for other countries (who are poorer and have less resources) to deal with. I actually think it is outrageous.

I agree. Her actions were and are utterly despicable but it's our problem to sort out, not Syria's

User98866 · 22/02/2023 12:39

And the home office have even admitted it’s credible she was trafficked as a child sex slave. Jesse this country disgusts me. But then we are more than happy to turn our backs on child sex trafficking so I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised.

yellowbananasinjuly · 22/02/2023 12:39

@Plitvice - could you tell us more about the testimony of the activist you speak of please ? (Or direct us to where we can read it)

UnluckyPennsatucky · 22/02/2023 12:40

People who want her to come back here and face justice …

  1. British justice is pretty much non existent - She’d probably get 18 months if that and then they’d say it wasn’t safe for her to go to prison

  2. if she did go to prison, she’d probably end up dead anyway

But, if this is the case, surely she should be brought here and put in jail like all other evil criminals.

Nogbreaks · 22/02/2023 12:40

The whole thing is a sh&t show and no idea now whether anything the authorities re saying about her is true, or they're just saying it because the govn doesn't want the furore over her return if they allowed it.

Moveoverdarlin · 22/02/2023 12:41

Great news.

ChilliBandit · 22/02/2023 12:42

Zipps · 22/02/2023 11:43

Or maybe just common sense to keep a terrorist from blowing up innocent people including children up at a pop concert for example.

Are you offering to house her here?
There'll be a million reasons why you would really love to but but you just can't. Number one being the safety of your dc.

Same question to all the other supporters of Begum. Are you willing to host her? Or live next door even?

You think your children are safer with her mostly unsupervised in a refugee camp?. And no I don’t want to house her because I don’t live in a prison with experience of deradicalising people. Am I only allowed to care about human rights when they are afforded to people I’d let stay in my house?

AllOfThemWitches · 22/02/2023 12:42

15 is old enough to know that you shouldn't align yourself with terrorist groups. Yeah, teenagers make mistakes but not generally on that level.
