Fuck it, I'm opening another one. If the mods delete it fair enough.

I don't believe the menopause or even alcoholism explains a woman vanishing into thin air with no evidence left behind.

This whole case stinks!

I'm so angry that the police have been searching for a dead menopausal alcoholic and not the person Nicola Bulley. So angry.

Yes, that's how I feel too.

TabithaTiger · 15/02/2023 19:34

This case just gets more and more confusing by the day. I feel very uncomfortable with the fact the police have released such personal information about Nicola. How awful for her poor girls...kids at school will overheat parents conversations and are bound to discuss it in the playground.

Although this information helps to explain why the Police responded in the way they have, I can't understand why her partner would do that interview? Unless friends and family were in the dark about her problems and he didn't want to tell anyone so just got swept away with doing the interview, etc. I find it hard to believe that her best friend wouldn't know that she had a significant issue with alcohol though.

It's all very sad and just goes to show that we never really know what people are going through, despite how smiley and happy they appear on social media .

TiddyTidTwo · 15/02/2023 19:34

Agree @Goldpaw

The police have stated “previous issues with alcohol” not

  • “she’s a drunk, unstable menopausal woman, who fell in the river pissed”.. (But they may as well have, as this is now what people will run with and focus on).

So why state that she had 'significant issues with alcohol' at all then if wasn't directly related to what happened that morning?

SpinningFloppa · 15/02/2023 19:36

First time commenting about it but what I don’t get is why her partner, friends and family made out like this was totally out of character and insisted she’s been harmed by someone, she was known to the police all along and there was obviously some issues going on.

Has he?
Did he go on his scheduled programme with Jeremy Kyle at 7 tonight do you know?

"Although this information helps to explain why the Police responded in the way they have"

@TabithaTiger

But it shouldn't! Not totally.

Picoloangel · 15/02/2023 19:36

They have been forced to disclose this highly personal information because of the ceaseless ghoulish speculation on threads like this.

ShowOfHands · 15/02/2023 19:36

First of all, I don't believe for a second that a woman who is competent enough to get her children ready for school, give them breakfast and then organise them along with the family dog into her car to drive them to school, proceeding to walk the dog as was a regular routine while on a work phone meeting call is somehow struck by an alcohol-related episode (depression? sudden alcohol-related physical event?)

Believe me, as the child of an alcoholic, they can go from dropping you and your packed lunch and perfectly ironed uniform at school - whilst cracking jokes and giving you piggy back rides - to a serious psychotic break and being sectioned by elevenses.

The police will not have released all information. They will have far more available to them than armchair analysts who are speculating to the point they're hampering the actual investigation. So many statements I keeps seeing on these threads simply confirm that people don't have the first idea about missing person investigations or the part they play in whipping up prurient interest in other people's lives.

JazzyGeoff · 15/02/2023 19:37

I think maybe the police have had to deal with hundreds of reports about tatty vans, suspicious looking fishermen, caravan park searches, dropped gloves on TikTok and all kinds of weirdos trying to insert themselves into a live missing person search.

Let's face it, there really could be previous attempts to self harm, or recent internet searches, or even notes left that morning that police were working with.
I think Nicola's partner was careful to only ever say that he wanted her to be found (outbuildings etc), and it's understandable that he and her family wanted to keep certain details private, but they inadvertently created a media frenzy, and when the police released details about her vulnerability (probably in the hope of tempering the suss fishermen and helpful 'reports' from Joan the Medium, lots of people on Twitter jumped to 'she must be being abused'.

It's all a bit of a shit show really.

Sep200024 · 15/02/2023 19:37

Puts a strange slant on the Go Fund Me page being set up.

Notaboutthebass · 15/02/2023 19:37

Poor woman having her personal life shared like that. It doesn't matter what vulnerabilities she has. Such a lack of dignity.

Suzi888 · 15/02/2023 19:37

I feel the police have released this not because of “speculation” but because they will now stop searching.

Would the family have agreed to this highly personal information being released?

He did.

He said he was angry. Because this would have changed things, he said her going into the water further to the sea are plausible now. Essentially, not a direct quote.

Rebellious23 · 15/02/2023 19:38

This bit is off to me

As a result of those issues, a response car staffed by both police and health professionals attended a report of concern for welfare at Nicola’s home address on January 10th. No one has been arrested in relation to this incident, but it is being investigated.

The bit about nobody having been arrested - it doesn't sound like it was Nicola they would have been arresting. They can't because she's missing Confused
I would have written it (if it was about her) no one was arrested/had been arrested

despite the police making a monumental fuck up of this, friends and family have been at pains to insist that a third party was involved and that nothing in her history would suggest self harm. That’s clearly not the case…

StarDolphins · 15/02/2023 19:38

I think the fact the police had been called out on 10tg Jan, he children will know of troubles, this might not have been the first thing they saw.

Yes, she might’ve been menopausal but that’s just PA saying it, it might’ve been various things & it’s just now like opening a can of worms for both Nicola & her innocent children.

Also, alcohol or not, she’s still missing & it doesn’t mean she’s jumped in the river. I just hope she’s gone off somewhere & is safe.

Seemsstrange to mention menopause at all with all the ‘reason’ being on Nicola.

lumpybums · 15/02/2023 19:38

Just because someone has had a recent dealing with police, and has alcohol problems, doesn't automatically mean they are in a river when they disappear.

No, but higher probability they might be compared to someone not dealing with those challenges. I feel they will be relevant to her disappearance

Oaktree55 · 15/02/2023 19:39

I’m done but since he’s deactivated just leaving this here for all to see. Absolutely no sense of self awareness that he was not skilled enough to gain the full picture.

I doubt it. In the police statement it says they have 'explained' to the family why they're releasing it, not asked.

It helps explain the line they were following. That doesn't mean I agree with them!

BornFreeButinChains · 15/02/2023 19:40

@SpudleyLass

There are many ways she could have entered that water.

You can drown in half an inch of bathwater.

But in that slow moving narrow waist high water stream? With not one article left behind? No items of clothing as she supposedly floated off?

Her being in the water has been exlpored and doesn't work and seems highly implausible.

It does t really matter how she accessed it and it seems quite suddenly??

LoveMAFS · 15/02/2023 19:40

I'm gonna have to re-watch the police press conference again because I appear to have totally missed the alcohol comment and I'm a bit flabbergasted. I feel like all this has done is to stir vigorously already muddy waters.
