Fuck it, I'm opening another one. If the mods delete it fair enough.

I don't believe the menopause or even alcoholism explains a woman vanishing into thin air with no evidence left behind.

This whole case stinks!

This reminded me of the Ariel Castro case, where his first two kidnap victims were written off as 'troubled' so the police didn't really bother looking for them. How many times have we heard about the police operating under false assumptions because a female victim - adult or teenager - has been labelled imperfect? The police may turn out to be right but, all the same, it's chilling to think that you could be abducted - with all the potential horrors that entails - and unless you fit the right victim profile the police will have closed their minds to really looking for you.

Yeah - and you can't be murdered by choking if you've previously consented to 'rough sex'. Or raped if you're drunk.

We need to add menopause issues to the protective factors against stranger attacks now....fantastic!

So fucking angry about this Sad

If I was going to take my life in similar circumstances I would have at least tied the dog to the bench so she was safe and couldn't follow me Hmm

Whole case is bullshit!

What you would have done is irrelevant

BornFreeButinChains · 15/02/2023 19:55

@Quveas.

Some of us have direct experience of this.

In my view it changes nothing.

pigsinoodies · 15/02/2023 19:56

Does struggling with menopause and alcohol make someone more buoyant than the rest of us or more adept at avoiding CCTV?

PF is a twat for suggesting it could have made any difference to his search strategy.

If Paul believed she had alcohol problems, he wouldn't be certain she wasn't in the river. And If she has alcohol problems significant enough to make her vulnerable in an investigation, I very much doubt he would be allowing her to drive their children when he could do it himself.

Absolutely wild from the police. WILD.

Who do you think was the other person involved in the incident they were called to? The one where they said “no one has been arrested but investigations are ongoing”.

He will have been aware of the incident at his address, to suggest he’s oblivious to her drinking is ridiculous. They said in their statement it’s caused a lot of issues for the family, which will obviously be in reference to him and potentially the children.

“Someone on the last thread said they already knew about the alcoholism. In a village so tight knit, people from outside are instantly recognisable as such, I’d imagine police turning up and signs of alcoholism would be hard to hide.”

Im pretty sure it would have come to light by now if this were actually true.

I’ve seen nothing, anywhere to suggest NB was a raging, menopausal alcoholic on social media or here on MN. I think it’s an incredibly dangerous thing to put out there. Dangerous for all women.

Nobody needed to know this. Nobody.

I think she left the phone on for the dog to listen to whilst she made her escape to wherever she went.

I'd like the know the rationale of what's gone on.

Why are you so convinced she was attacked?

The police haven’t said ‘she had a drink problem and was menopausal so she can’t have been attacked’

Having alcohol problems, mentally struggling to the point the police have to attend your house to check on you, can often lead people to harming themselves. That’s a fact.

That’s Not the same as saying ‘she can’t have been attacked cause menopause’

2 options really 1) Police have done this for operational reasons 2) to defend themselves.

The family have come nowhere in their thinking

So the police made it up? They didn’t attend? They made up that she was vulnerable?

First of all, I don't believe for a second that a woman who is competent enough to get her children ready for school, give them breakfast and then organise them along with the family dog into her car to drive them to school, proceeding to walk the dog as was a regular routine while on a work phone meeting call is somehow struck by an alcohol-related episode (depression? sudden alcohol-related physical event?).

Sorry but you really have no understanding if alcoholism if you think this. Her other half said he helped gets the kids ready. She could easily have still had alcohol from the night before, been drinking after she dropped the kids, on her walk etc. You really have no idea how normal an alcoholic can seem for a very long time. I should say say have no idea if this lady drank that much or didn't drink at all that day but you reasoning that she didn't because of getting kids to school and going for a walk is very off.

This puts into word how I feel.

If the police thought they had pressure before, they are being torn apart now.

Shame on the police and for the damage this will do to this investigation and future cases. Shame on you and the press.

I suspect we will find out that she has harmed herself in some way.

I would normally make an assumption that her husband was involved though watching his interview I simply don't see it. All of his stress cues are consistent with having lost his wife rather than harmed her.

This. It is obvious that is what the police believe has happened.

01R019 · 15/02/2023 20:04

Asked for privacy for the family. Proceeds to tell everyone about her private life

What a joke.

Suzi888 · 15/02/2023 20:04

@Bellalalala if being menopausal or peri menopausal makes you bloody “vulnerable” then yes Jesus wept in fucking deed.

I call BS on the alcohol excuse.

Ditto!! The biggest pile of shite I’ve ever heard!!
Also, IF she has alcohol problems, why on earth was she driving those kids to school while Paul stayed at home having his ME time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Renoir56 · 15/02/2023 20:05

My god. The police disclosed personal information they have been trying to hold back and it's still not enough to stop some of you speculating. Poor woman.

And I have lived with an alcoholic. You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors.
