Missing Woman Nicola Bulley 8

Here's the new thread

My phone is playing up. I wrote a FAQ and then it crashed and I lost it all.

I'm also dealing with a child on the spectrum who is bouncing off the walls this evening so I apologise for not being around much.

Quite a few comments from people in high up places, deriding Peter Faulding and Mark William-Thomas on twitter. People have even 1 starred pf book on Amazon, calling him all sorts.

I expect this will get worse over the coming days.

This should be interesting

"Former DCI for the Met Police, Simon Harding joins Sally Lockwood from 8:20am to discuss the continuing search for Nicola Bulley and reports of potential police failings following her disappearance."

This burial line of enquiry is just so far fetched now.

I remain of the view that she went into the water and mix of miscalculations and mistakes mean that she is further out (probably the sea) than anticipated.

I agree with you. It's not a satisfying conclusion because the family will possibly never find her and no one wants that for them. But it does seem by far the most likely scenario.

I agree - but not on mistakes and miscalculations as the police SAR where fully deployed ASAP.

They may have missed her in the early days where she was likely near the bench but would personally not class that as mistake.

I have read all the threads because I find the circumstances in which NB disappeared so bewildering. I too am a dog owner and know many school mums who walk their dogs in similar areas, I usually walk with a friend or in a small group and am personally not keen on picturesque but isolated walks, never have been.

I wanted to share my feeling about Peter Faulding. I thought it was amazing that he offered to help with the water search but his involvement contributed to the whole strangeness of the situation. IMO, he knows 100% what he is talking about.

He will have been briefed, to some extend, by the police and Paul will have shared information with him that isn't available in the media. PF is obviously not a police office nor a private investigator but he is specialised in searching missing people/bodies so it does make sense that he is offering his search services whether it's in the water on on land. Especially as the police are dragging their feet and seem to have messed up this investigation due to a combination of sexism and incompetence Hmm.

PF comes across like someone who is completely passionate about what they do and possibly a bit single / bloody minded about it but with good intentions and 100% competence. I do wonder why he used the word burial, he must have a theory. If he puts himself and his business out there at the risk of being trolled (e.g. one starring his book on Amazon) he will have a very good reason, I believe the reason is that he wants to do The Right Thing by Paul and his family. He has a family with three daughters himself and must be feeling very sorry for Paul and his girls, he wants to help.

I am curious why we haven't heard from NB's parents or sister again. I know the friends are doing the media talks but it's a bit weird that they have backed off completely, especially her sister.

I hope NB will be found and her family can have closure or move on in the best possible way. I can't imagine what it must be like for her girls 😢.

melonraspberry · 14/02/2023 08:50

I don’t think PF used the word burial. I posted that he’d said in an interview that the undergrowth hadn’t been searched. I took from that he didn’t just mean burial, but for evidence.

MeinKraft · 14/02/2023 08:51

'I am curious why we haven't heard from NB's parents or sister again. I know the friends are doing the media talks but it's a bit weird that they have backed off completely, especially her sister. '

Seeing the abuse her husband and friend have got online I can imagine why other family members are taking a back seat.

melonraspberry · 14/02/2023 08:51

Eg if she’d been held while Willow was found, and then moved, she could have dropped something , which at least would show she was there, and remove the river theory.

Yes I agree. And he doesn't necessarily have to be suggesting something happened that saw her buried there and then in that tiny time frame. If and obviously a huge if someone did do something to her they've had the best part of 3 weeks with the police focussing on the river. I know there have been other investigations going on on the background but they've taken their time with it and likely missed opportunities (taking 9 days to contact a witness for example - have those fishermen ever been traced?). He is likely to know far more than the general public and it's actually a huge risk to him and his reputation of he's wrong about this. I doubt both he and the police divers have miscalculated and it seems highly unlikely she did fall in at the bench. Maybe further down but then surely that suggests a 3rd party if the phone, dog and harness ended up there?

I won't be around so much today so may need someone else to start a new thread when this is full.

Going to a family valentines afternoon tea thing. Wish me luck 🙈

I completely agree with everything you've said here. PF has been prepared to put his head above the paparet in the absence of a fair investigation by the police.
I also agree that sexism has played a part in the initial knee-jerk reaction that she must have fallen into the river. That would be the last conclusion I would have jumped to.

ofwarren · 14/02/2023 08:57

Peter used the phrase 'deposition sites', not burial, btw. That was the papers phrasing.

He will have been briefed, to some extend, by the police

He hasn't been. In his usual cases he is, but Lancs Constabulary haven't shared anything with him, and have said so. They've treated him as if he's a member of the public.

Whether or not you share their opinion of him, it's obvious that in other instances where he's volunteered the force involved has accepted his help. He's been involved in high profile cases like April Jones, so it's not like he's an amateur.

Lancs have been a bit chippy about his involvement and I think that's unnecessary. Particularly since they've not carried out the greatest investigation.

pigsinoodies · 14/02/2023 09:04

OodieSmoodie · 14/02/2023 07:51

Some men just kill women though, they don’t always abduct. There was a woman who was killed this summer when walking home in London, I’m really sorry I can’t remember her name, and it took five minutes - on a driveway - as it was caught on CCTV.

I know we keep hearing about the “10 minute window” but all he had to do was get her away from bench area out of sight at that point, the first people on the scene certainly didn’t go off searching in the bushes, then there was a gap of 1hr 30 minutes almost before we know of anyone else turning up. So not such a busy area after all that morning.

If she was murdered and hidden in bushes the dog wouldn't have left her and wandered over to the bench area.

We already know from what Paul's said that there were other people around when he arrived. And aside from that we know what time caravan park lady arrived and we know there were other people around - but we don't know what time any of them left after exercising their dogs, or whether anyone else arrived while they were there.

liveforsummer · 14/02/2023 09:04

I suppose it's understandable, he's publicly criticising them but they are putting that above actually finding her. If they did share from the start it might be solved by now. Or wound be awful if ego's have prevented that

Daisymaker · 14/02/2023 09:05

I watched the documentary last night , so the last actual sighting of Nicola was at 910 in the upper field?

MeinKraft · 14/02/2023 09:09

Ah I've just seen a photo of Nicolas friend Emma with Dan Walker from December 2022, turns out her father in law is a BBC news presenter. Explains how the documentary came to be made.

But he wasn't critical at the start, that only happened when he came up to Lancashire, the police shut him out, and he then saw the police weren't searching the area properly.

I agree too. He is ex-paras. He seems a person of action, the type of man who wants to get things done and knows he has skills that could help. He comes across as a decent person. Why else would he bother ? He has had a lot of flack for doing it. Some people just are kind and decent, not everyone is on the make.
He has expertise and experience, he isn’t a random bloke pitching in.

liveforsummer · 14/02/2023 09:13

But he wasn't critical at the start, that only happened when he came up to Lancashire, the police shut him out, and he then saw the police weren't searching the area properly.

He was still questioning their judgment. Stating he didn't think she'd be there as they hadn't found her yet. Saying he could find her quicker. I don't think he's ever thought she was on that part of the river that I remember which they were obviously convinced she was at that stage

As you can imagine, the conspiracy theorist are having a field day with that.
People putting 2 and 2 together and making 5.
Fair play to them using all their contacts and resources. I know I would.

Trial

’Extracts of her diary were read out including thoughts of suicide by drowning herself in a river’

Libby was murdered despite above.

He was criticising them, their search capabilities and talking about decoys etc. days before he'd been to Lancashire.
