Here's the new thread

My phone is playing up. I wrote a FAQ and then it crashed and I lost it all.

I'm also dealing with a child on the spectrum who is bouncing off the walls this evening so I apologise for not being around much.

I knew this was coming - I just wanted to come on and thank those who have controlled the trolling on this site….. but I get trolled and called some weirdo and that’s fine….. I know the truth - enjoy being horrid to those who only wanted to thank you for protecting Nik!
carry on with your speculation on who I am, or who I’m not…. I don’t care, I’ve enough on my plate without being called a weirdo - PS IM NOT ON FB 🤷🏻‍♀️

all this because I wanted to say thank you - Shocking

I don't think anyone has trolled you or called you a weirdo. Some people have rightly pointed out that you could be absolutely anyone, pretending that you have some link with the family. There's nothing "horrid" about saying that.

The trolling on here has been awful. Today has been an improvement believe it or not.
Thank you for your post, whoever you are 💛

Then we have to factor in there were at least 6 (?) dog walkers or passers-by congregating around the bench at 9:33am plus. Not the time to choose re: a stalker. Too people many around.

Where is the source for 6 people at the bench at 9.33? The caravan park owner has claimed to be there around 9.33 tying the dog up then left to go to an appointment. From other reports the DIL returned later, much closer to 10.50 as that is when the school were phoned and asked to contact PA. When PA arrived he said there were a few people there.

There is mention of a male dog walker in the vicinity at 9.33 who then walked towards Rowanwater. The caravan park owner didn't need to use that path, there is a gate directly from the caravan park into the fields close by the bench.

The details of the reporting around the sighting at 9.33 and what happened next is very sketchy and you seem to keep coming back to one particular story from the Mirror that is a second hand account of an annonymous friend - which may not be the best factually correct (If there is such a thing) article to be focussed on?

A potential abductor could have been there much earlier possibly? Not necessarily sitting at the bench - they could have walked over the style into the other field, or been hiding in amongst the trees somewhere, if it was pre-planned based on being aware of NB's normal route.

@Baileysandcream

Re: SIX people at the bench

Interesting about the 'dog tying' witness approaching directly, not through kissing gate?

They would be very close to the gate which Nicola and abductor would have to pass through close to the same time (?) Risky for the abductor plus the initial witness may well have heard any scuffle or disturbance assuming in area very close at the same time?

As to 6 people in the area at the time and the source:
www.lancs.live/news/lancashire-news/nicola-bulley-laughing-joking-just-26135864

  1. As to the first two, as seemingly the same 'anonymous friend' is quoted throughout, I do attribute this quote to her. She interacted with a couple who were the last to see Nicola? She is recounting an earlier encounter with a couple that saw Nicola, presumably giving this testimony to the police for their records:

A friend who wishes to stay anonymous, told the Mirror she has spoken to a pair who believe they were the last people to see Nicola before she went missing. She said: "They say she was laughing and joking with them as she went by '

  1. This same 'friend', presumably, especially the article does mention another (?) goes on to say as below ( she did not hang around due to her 'appointment' ) SO, this has to be close to the very precise (?) 9:33am time and her 'tying up of dog'

She [so still same anonymous friend, then I assume] went on to say TWO OTHER dog walkers later came across her phone and recognised the screensaver photo. She said they all were unable to unlock the phone.

So including her, FIVE so far...I make it...

THEN...

She came through a gate onto the towpath [You say, ANOTHER gate, not kissing gate? just trying to clarify] but became suspicious when she saw the harness and lead on the floor. A man then came through behind her with his dog and spotted the phone.

"The gent has looked on the floor and two feet from the bench there’s a phone," she said. "I think she’s either been faffing about at the edge of the river because the dog’s been smelling fishing bait and she’s slipped or she’s had a medical episode."
[Was this elderly man with fluffy dog? Was he found and spoken to? Or was that someone else}?

Taking the total to SIX, including her:

The woman said: "I saw the dog and I recognised it, but I suddenly couldn't think whose dog it was.

The woman adds:

“It’s such an isolated area, the only way that has happened is if it was someone who knew her.”

Even if fewer than the SIX, there WERE six on the scene half an hour before or close to that time, and no doubt many more later. PA mentions when he arrived on scene there were quite a few dog walkers. Too many witnesses for any stalker to strike I feel, in generally a busy period of 'dog walking rush hour', unless someone who wanted to do this in a small window for a particular malicious thrill (?) ..Horrible again, as that is to contemplate.

BUT the balance of probabilities say that a lurking, obsessed stalker with a meticulous plan (Looks that way if so?) is very unlikely I feel.

The 'dog tying up' witness was quick to point out that the culprit must be someone who knew Nicola (?)

It wasn't the quietest time, although sadly, I do know these things can happen at busier periods in theory.

@ofwarren if that is also aimed at me then it's petty and unnecessary. We are allowed to disagree with each other.

I'm just joking, I'm sorry

@Baileysandcream i read that an elderly man ‘with a fluffy dog’ was right behind the lady who discovered Willow. The man noticed the phone and also commented on the fact that Willow could be attracted to fishing bait.
What’s frustrating are the inconsistencies. Not sure this is because supposition on SM is muddying the water.

ImprobablePuffin · 13/02/2023 17:49

Renoir56 · 13/02/2023 16:54

@ImprobablePuffin there is no need to be so rude. I certainly have not been 'tipped over the edge'. But I have no intention of watching a YouTube video which has a title with an exclamation mark on it when it's about the recent disappearance of a real person.

No not being rude, I wanted to know if you were making assumptions, which you were because you didn't even watch the video.

You still posted though to say it's all gone too far...because of an exclamation point, which in itself is, in my opinion, ridiculous.

@addinganidea really good post. I am so sorry to hear of your ordeal, how horrific and frightening.

I agree, in that there are those who will take a chance in the open for the reasons you state, but would guess these sort are rarer? Sadly, many attacks happen at night etc. Any invested stalker could have taken Nicola from anywhere, if knew her routine inside out.

As to the mansion that so many mention, yes, all should be explored and you make a fair point.

My point, is that while everyone looks at fishermen who hide their faces and common, shabby red vans they take their eyes of the obvious and immediate. Things are taken at face value and vital time and clues, all lost, as is the pattern in so many similar cases . All needs to be carefully evaluated and ruled out.

Not say you're doing that here, but so often police etc go off on wild goose chases...they HAVE to follow everything up and sometimes resources get taken up on wild goose chases meanwhile in plain sight...

Ormally · 13/02/2023 17:55

@addinganidea There is something I have been considering adding too, and have resisted as it is not directly to do with this case at all.
But. In the same kind of vein, I worked somewhere that was an unusually safe place in a dodgy area. It had gates, mostly manned, and was well covered by CCTV.
There was ONE narrow (urban, short, and not especially creepy) path that had a CCTV blind spot. People up to no good definitely knew this, and there were several assaults there and other minor crime like car damage. Security also definitely knew this but so much was evident yet unsolved there.
The 'broken' CCTV in the disappearance reminds me hugely of this.

Go Peter! He's clearly a man that gets things done. Exactly, go back to the start and look at everything, follow in her footsteps, ALL now concur, pretty much, Nicola DIDN'T 'fall' into the water by the bench so, unpack, re-trace, think and then what does occam's razor, say??

@RLScott is Emma aware of this thread, I wonder and a Mumsnetter? I hope so, you never know it may be helpful. At these sort of times we all need to come together to try to help and put personal feelings to one side. We all know a 'Nicola', we have friends like her and it is all so baffling and heartbreaking.

There are some really good thoughts on this thread and it's all very positive today, in the main. Great.

Baileysandcream · 13/02/2023 18:01

@Peverellshire This is the official timeline from Lancs police:

Timeline

8.26am: Nicola leaves her home address with her children

8.40am: Nicola drops the children off at school and has a brief conversation with another parent

8.43am: Nicola walked along the path by the River Wyre towards the gate/bench into the lower field, having dropped her children off at school

8:47am (approximately): A dog-walker – somebody who knows Nicola – saw her walking around the lower field with her dog. Their two dogs interacted briefly before the witness left the field via the river path

8.53am: She sent an email to her boss

8.59 am: She sent message to a friend

9.01am: She logged into a Teams call

9.10am (approximately): A witness – somebody who knows Nicola – saw her on the upper field walking her dog, Willow. Work is ongoing today to establish exactly what time this was.

9.20am: Her phone was back in the area of the bench

9.30am: The Teams call ended but Nicola stayed logged on

9.33am (approximately): Nicola’s mobile phone and Willow were found at a bench by the river by another dog-walker.

----

It looks like some of the people have been shown to leave via different routes all prior to 9.33.

It's not clear whether the man with the fluffy white dog is the person quoted here at 9.33 or if it is the lady who owns the caravan park and apparently tied up Willow (although not sure whether she actually had her own dog with her?)

Also it's been stated that the lady who tied Willow up (around 9.33) was leaving to go to an appointment so it's not clear how long she had been in the area, as it seems strange she would be arriving through the kissing gate at 9.33 (with the elderly man with fluffy dog arriving shortly after her) if she was in a rush to get to an appointment and needed to leave straight away?

All very strange and confusing - but you would hope that if there were multiple witnessesses in the vicinity of the bench at 9.33 this would have been made clearer.
