Missing Woman Nicola Bulley 8

Here's the new thread

My phone is playing up. I wrote a FAQ and then it crashed and I lost it all.

I'm also dealing with a child on the spectrum who is bouncing off the walls this evening so I apologise for not being around much.

IF this had happened (sighting in field - phone and dog by bench ect), without a body of water nearby, what would the police's first thoughts be?

Would it have immediately been a criminal investigation or would their first reaction be that she walked away of her own accord?

I just feel that it's like a big catch 22 at the moment.

Police: We think she went in the river, therefore we will search until the money runs out. There's no evidence to say she went in it's just what we think. The lack of body means nothing, we think she went into the river.

Hence my question: what would they 'think' if there was no river? Genuine Q.

But there is a river. You can't just exclude it from the equation.

It will be interesting to see what he says. He was less than complementary about the investigation in the documentary.

🤦🏻‍♀️

What you putting your hand on your head for?
That's where the original gofundme was from, Emma's Facebook, put onto a 'find nikki' group.
I live down the road and friends of friends know them so they show up on my Facebook.
It is Emma's account on Facebook, you can even see she's friends with Nicola and Paul.

i think people know that Emma is Nicola's friend and has been part of the group supporting the family. The point is that this is an anonymous forum and no one can know whether the post is genuine.

Morning all, a couple of points from websleuths that I don't think have been discussed much on here:

  1. The deep hole in the middle of the river at the area of the bench - has the depth of that been confirmed and how easy was that to search?
  2. Silt levels in the river and the impact of that on the searches.

I also wanted to agree that the two 'fisherman' could easily be poachers. We get them from time to time on our land and they often try to hide their faces. They can also be very aggressive and threatening, if challenged.

Good point on poachers. Would also explain why they didn't come forward.

I don't think there is any point getting paranoid about good intentions of others, however close they are to the case. If their heart is in the right place then focus on that.

Of course
I was commenting on her putting the head in hands emoji about Emma being on Facebook

True. It seems unhelpful though to assume that there was no foul play and that she probably is in the river.

So I think the point is less "let's forget about the river" and more, "yes, there's a river, but there's also a lot of land."

Bluebellwood129 · 13/02/2023 10:03

@ofwarren Yep but it doesn't mean that Nicola didn't come across them. One of them tried to kick one of our dogs who had found some stuff they'd hidden. I guess anything's possible......

But are you really naive enough to think someone with a username including ‘Em’ must be that Emma. You do realise I could change my username to ‘KimKardashian’ and it doesn’t mean I’m actually her. So yes..... 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Interested to see what MWT can bring to the investigation. I 100% think the police jumped to a conclusion too quickly, if it does turn out to be the wrong one so much valuable time and evidence will have been lost.

It's fair to say that the Police's overfocus on the water during the crucial first few days will be flagged as a criticism when they take stock of how it was investigated. There was nothing to stop door-to-door searches from day 1 or asking people leaving the village to confirm their identities at exit points. They definitely missed a trick.

Goldpaw · 13/02/2023 10:15

I have read a few articles lately on waterside lone female attacks/attempted attacks

I think this is why women talking about Nicola Bulley and her disappearance is a good thing.

Like @Sleepeazie mentioned there's the combination of being of a similar demographic to her, and also knowing in our guts that third party involvement is a possibility for all women who disappear without a trace, not just those deemed vulnerable.

Ongoing threads like this lead many women to say, well actually x happened to me. Or for women to discuss ways they can raise the alarm if they encounter someone who wishes them harm, or at least help those trying to find them if the worst happens.

This is in addition to collating news reports, articles and other items. And of course, wanting to express our sadness at what has happened to Nicola and her family.

I also think that failing to search upstream of the bench may have been a huge error. If she happened to enter the water in that area and not by the bench, their assumptions about everything would be wrong.

I'm pretty sure I came across a news article that quoted Colin Sutton as well. He was critical of the investigation. However I can't find it now, unfortunately.

ImprobablePuffin · 13/02/2023 10:25

Morning. Thanks for the thread @ofwarren and all the useful links. I've finally caught back up.
A new week, let's hope there's some new information or developments this week that will lead to some answers.

And to @HelloNY obviously we don't know for sure if that poster is actually Nicola's friend...but on the chance that it is, we will be supportive and respectful. The only person being disrespectful right now is you and all your facepalm emojis.

ofwarren · 13/02/2023 10:28

It's good to see the case all over the TV again. It's being discussed on all news channels, on This Morning and Lorraine.
Yesterday and the day before was a real lull and I was worried.
I'm assuming the talk of a land search and the Savile detective have 'helped' in that respect.

whether Emlouise was genuinely who we think, it is not important, she was grateful for the threads which are sympathetic to the family

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/02/2023 10:38

I wouldn’t read too much into ex detectives being critical of the investigation. I doubt they are in possession of the full facts and are only working on hearsay to. It’s just clickbait for the papers.
