Blimey. You really have no idea.

Take out the comma after bench.

Interestingly, at the press conference, Supt Riley said 'which was the area where she FIRST when missing'. Will have to listen again and find the spot, maybe someone else has or can (?)

A slip, or it fits? I get the feeling they think she's elsewhere which might be how the CCTV loops in somehow on the cars but not sure how, Garstang Rd.

You're making it worse.

I'd come off this topic now.

Suicide is not a sign of weakness.

I really really hope they know more than they are letting on.

Unfortunately it’s not relevant, technology was very different back then. For example thermal imaging didn’t start till the mid nineties.

Stupid question but I thought thermal imaging only picked up the heat from.a body? Do if a body was in the river it would be cold would they still be able to pick it up? Only from what I've picked up on the TV shows.

Of course they do, if she was suscidal or there was the risk of sucide they wouldn't be telling the public because that would not be fair on the family

lifeturnsonadime · 09/02/2023 09:46

I find it bizarre that there are no reports of other objects such as dog poo bags or treats, or balls. I walk my dogs and I've always got pockets full of stuff.

You would think that if she'd gone in the water there something would have surfaced. Or perhaps it has and that's why the police are so certain that was the outcome.

Peverellshire · 09/02/2023 09:46

@ofwarren I'd bet muy mortgage on it. PF was disgruntled not to have the low down on it as has had the inside scoop from previous police teams. He also seems to have said she might be in the sea or over weir when he was all for third parties before? I think so anyway, not been paying close attention to it for a while. What's the update?

Eatentoomanyroses · 09/02/2023 09:46

I meant is that story relevant as there’s been talk that she couldn’t go over the weir but that boy did it seems ?

Yes, the experts are saying in cold water for about 24 hours. The helicopter was out early evening and the divers were in by early afternoon anyway

I wouldn't read too much into anything Sally Riley says. Last week she said Willow was found after Nicola was reported missing.

Peverellshire · 09/02/2023 09:48

The police seem really keen on checking out the cars? What are they hoping to find? NB looping back? But time slot is very tight isn't it and wouldn't make sense in context. Also the 'window' of opportunity at less than (?) 10 mins is surely too small?

There was no weir then

I dont know how the previous death there isnt relevant! It was 45 years ago to the day, thats the relevance. That sounds exactly like a premediated abduction with the expectation that focus would be on the river as before. Surely not a coincidence, it sounds more like something a kidnapper from a novel would do to taunt the police. Its awful.

I hope that she will be found soon and this thread can be deleted so her children never have to read it, some of it has been awful.

MucozadeOnLucozade · 09/02/2023 09:49

I used to do quite a few walks by myself in the countryside. I would get whatapp to broadcasts my location within nine metres to my husband's phone and he could see where I was on a map, just in case something happened. Annoyingly the location thing on WhatsApp doesn't work anymore.

I really hope the police find answers for the family. I am sure something will be discovered from the dash cam footage.

I really don't believe someone would attack when there is a huge very visible security camera overlooking the area.

I have looked on Strava what the usual route would be when she does this walk. She'd already done the loop and gone back to the bench. I believe she left via the gate so the dog couldn't follow her.

Keeping the family in my thoughts.

@Bluebellwood129 @ofwarren thanks
I don’t know if this has already been shared but it seems relevant www.lep.co.uk/news/nicola-bulley-we-know-her-familys-pain-say-preston-family-who-lost-a-son-in-the-same-stretch-of-river-on-the-same-day-45-years-ago-4019028
Very sad.

This has been posted before, yes. Bizarre that he went missing on the same day of the year.
This poor lad was knocked into a tributary of the Wyre, in a road accident, he was riding pinion on a moped and the main driver was knocked unconscious in the crash, while he was thrown into the water. There was a delay in looking for him as nobody initially knew that a second person had been riding on the bike too. He may not have been alive when he hit the water, he may well have been unconscious.
The tributary he was thrown into was in flood, so the water would have been fast moving. There was no weir in place and no flood mitigation so his body was carried down the river and surfaced later some miles along. Very sad story but quite different circumstances .

That might just be true, though. The police were there pronto.

Also, SR kept saying the phone was on the ground, and now it is definitely on the bench and she's really clear about that. I don't think she's making a mistake as such here. Ditto she's been 'in the water' at some point? Is that right. Not mistakes as such, I feel. So equally 'when she first went missing' doesn't sound like an easy mistake to make? I don't know?

They're hoping to find conclusive evidence that Nicola didn't leave the area - that's where the CCTV black spot is.

The window of opportunity is much bigger, it’s at least 25 mins

she was last seen at 9.10, but could have been as early as 9 or 9.05 and the phone was found at 9.35. There is nothing to say she placed the phone etc there or left the dog there. So likely a window of up to 30 mins.

Or evidence that she did and if anyone else went down the river path at that time.

Right, can you go a long way down river from the bench on foot?

The timing is wrong for that isn't it?

Bluebellwood129 · 09/02/2023 09:53

@Peverellshire The police weren't there pronto. Based on the information released to the public, Willow was found at around 9:30 at the same time as Nicola's phone and the harness were found. Nicola's partner didn't report her missing until 10:50.
