It is a difficult one.

They may not be an award-winning police force but I'd give them enough credit for at least doing something. They certainly have a lot of people working on the case - at least some of those must be good. You can trust them to at least have looked in the obvious places cameras, river, tree canopies and so on.

They may not be doing it as quickly or thoroughly as some people would expect but they have expended a lot of resources on the case so far compared to other missing person's cases where there is scant evidence leading anywhere.

Just because it’s not tidal before the weir doesn’t mean there aren’t strong currents particularly given previous rain and fact she had that long ankle length coat on which may have changed how she floated giving enough buoyancy to go over she was very slight!

She didn't have an ankle length coat on - this was incorrect information released by the police. CCTV footage proves otherwise.

katem98 · 09/02/2023 08:54

Re the suicide speculation, I wonder if her mood whilst dropping off her dc was an indication and that's why the police seem to be certain that she's in the river? If maybe they'd asked the school if it was a normal drop off and they thought 'hm maybe she seemed a little agitated/ not as per normal' then the police would be more inclined to say she's most likely in the river? Doesn't make sense leaving the dog there though, I would've thought she'd have left him in the car/ took him home before if she knew what she was going to do. Unless as PP said, who knows what was said on the Teams call.

Why would she have bothered to log in to the zoom work call if that was the plan? It wasn’t necessary to make it look like an accident and surely she would have wanted to minimise speculation?

And, as there are photos of her dog playing in that river online, would he really not have followed her out if she’d gone for a swim?

People can suddenly snap and do things on the spur of the moment.
Not all suicides are planned in advance.

ThighMistress · 09/02/2023 09:00

I agree it’s so hard for the police. About a week after the disappearance I saw people suggesting the caravan park… as if the police hadn’t noticed it! There are huge numbers of personnel on this case - no stone will be left unturned. As others have pointed out, the public do not have the right to a blow-by-blow account of proceedings.

And it’s one thing to sleuth on the internet with fellow “enthusiasts” Hmm but quite another to turn up at the scene. I read that some people were doing podcasts there - they should be ashamed of themselves, although I suppose they see that there is an eager market for true crime and want to jump on the bandwagon.

The 'abandoned house' owner must be furious with Tilly Ann.
So many papers running with the story that it hasn't been searched.

I can’t believe it’s nearly two weeks tomorrow that Nicola has been missing, I know as each day passes it makes the investigation more difficult. I often wonder where the many people who disappear must end up, the same thing happened to a colleague at my Dads work, he disappeared one day, never to be found again, it seemed he had mental health issues though and the hypothesis was he took his own life somewhere.

dawngreen · 09/02/2023 09:04

It was mentioned that her car keys were found inside the locked car. So did she just forget the car keys?

Oaktree55 · 09/02/2023 09:05

A desperate family will take any help offered and also cling to any possible outcome except drowning, just human nature.

dawngreen · 09/02/2023 09:06

Some one also said that the dog had some keys attached to its harness which I found strange. Any one else read the same?

melonraspberry · 09/02/2023 09:06

@ofwarren @pigsinoodies do you think it’s at all possible that a gunshot in that area could be unnoticed - ie mistaken for a car backfiring (can you hear the road from the field), birdscarer (although wrong time of year), or just usual noises? I live in the country and a gunshot noise wouldn’t really enter my consciousness because there are always bangs and random noises when I’m walking. Also, it would be interesting to know if the witness at 0910 was wearing headphones.

I've seen it mentioned but not confirmed anywhere.
Apparently they have a Mercedes that opens with an app on your phone so it wouldn't be that unusual.

The caravan parks are so close to the field that I think it would be mentioned.
There is/was a gun club in St Michael's though.
I never heard guns from where I lived.

A gunshot? With no evidence? This thread is getting more ridiculous by the day.

Probably impossible to say. For a time I'd often leave my car keys in the car unless the place seemed dodgy.

Well all of the other attendees, and the police.

You are free to hide it if you find it too painful 😉

dawngreen · 09/02/2023 09:14

Why the stupid emote added when no need??? I agree a gunshot could be mistaken for a car though.

Eatentoomanyroses · 09/02/2023 09:14

What’s the river like after the weir? Could she have gone in after the weir? Sorry if this has already been asked

melonraspberry · 09/02/2023 09:14

Dogs that worry animals can be shot, and there is a gun club, so presumably a few people have guns in that area, to protect their animals from foxes etc. I’d never let my dog off the lead as he has huge prey drive, but I don’t have a spaniel. I noticed quite a few spaniels on my walk yesterday and they did all have excellent recall though.

dawngreen · 09/02/2023 09:15

What fields are the livestock in the area in???????

Renoir56 · 09/02/2023 09:16

I've no intention of hiding the thread. I'd rather call out the utter bullshit from people who think they are amateur detectives. When I reported a post Mumsnet said that in most instances they would prefer posts are challenged than deleted.

This is a family tragedy not a true crime drama.

They aren't in the fields. Wyresdale is a little smallholding

It's possible Nicola has gone in anywhere but the initial focus was around the bench area. For that reason, the area upstream of this was apparently 'overlooked' by divers and was only searched for the first time this week by SPI.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 09/02/2023 09:16

I leave my keys in the car but live in a rural area. With juggling dogs, kids it's one less thing to think about. I don't think that's unusual.
